Yes. If ANBERNIC stops selling or shipping to the United States, an ANBERNIC handheld you already own should continue to run its locally installed firmware and locally stored games. A change in sales territory is not the same as a remote device deactivation.
The risk is practical rather than automatic: a complete company shutdown could make firmware downloads, repairs, replacement parts, warranty claims and customer-service replies harder to obtain. Features that depend on an account, a manufacturer server or another online service are a separate case and cannot be judged universally without identifying the model and software involved.
What “stops selling in the US” actually means
There are two very different events behind this question. The first is a sales or shipping withdrawal: the company no longer sends new units directly to American customers, or limits which warehouse can fulfill an order. The second is a complete cessation of operations, in which the manufacturer and its support channels disappear. Your existing handheld has a much better outlook in the first scenario.

On April 21, 2025, Gizmodo reported that ANBERNIC would suspend direct shipments from China to US customers because of uncertainty over US tariff policy. The reported notice said, “due to changes in U.S. tariff policies, we will be suspending all shipping from China to the United States starting today,” and recommended prioritizing products shipped from its US warehouse. That was a fulfillment change, not evidence that previously sold handhelds had been disabled.

That report is historical, not a statement of the current shipping policy. The official ANBERNIC store page checked on October 13, 2026, described worldwide shipping, linked to support and order information, and stated that replacement repair parts are provided during the 12-month warranty period. Those are the terms displayed at that time; they are not a guarantee that inventory, shipping routes or support will continue after a future closure.
Sales withdrawal and company shutdown are different risks

The table describes likely consequences, not a model-by-model manufacturer guarantee. ANBERNIC’s published material does not provide a universal remote-deactivation policy or a complete inventory of online dependencies for every handheld.
What should keep working on a handheld you already own
Locally installed firmware
The operating system and firmware stored on the device or its removable storage do not normally require the seller to be shipping new products. If the hardware, storage and firmware remain healthy, the handheld can boot the same way it did before a sales change. The conclusion is an inference from ANBERNIC’s support procedures for flashing locally installed firmware, not a promise that every model behaves identically.

Games and saves stored locally
Games, ROM files, save files and configuration data that are already on the device or its card can continue to work offline when the model’s firmware supports them. A later loss of the manufacturer’s website does not erase those files. Compatibility can still be affected by a damaged card, corrupted firmware, a failing battery or a game that was never supported by that model.
Basic hardware controls
The screen, buttons, speakers, charging circuit and other hardware are not normally dependent on a sales account. Their useful life remains a hardware question: wear, battery degradation, physical damage and storage failure matter more than the country in which the device was sold.
What could become difficult after a full shutdown
A closure would affect the supply chain and information around the device before it necessarily affects local play. Plan for these dependencies separately:

- Firmware and recovery images: Official downloads may be moved, removed or left without maintenance. ANBERNIC currently provides a firmware-download page covering multiple models, but that page does not promise indefinite hosting.
- Repairs and spare parts: The store currently says, “Within the 12-month warranty period, we support to provide replacement repair parts for free.” The wording describes the stated warranty period, not support forever or service after a business closure.
- Warranty claims: A seller, marketplace or warehouse may have its own return period, but that is separate from ANBERNIC’s stated warranty process and may not survive the disappearance of the relevant business.
- Technical support: Model-specific instructions and replies from customer service could become unavailable, leaving owners to rely on saved documentation or qualified independent repairers.
- Replacement media and components: Compatible microSD cards and generic parts may remain available, while model-specific shells, screens, batteries or boards could become scarce.
None of these risks means an owned handheld stops on a particular date. They mean that recovery is easier while official information and parts are still accessible.
Offline play versus online features
“Can I still play games offline?” is usually a question about files already stored on the handheld. For locally installed firmware and locally stored games, the answer is generally yes, subject to the model’s compatibility and the condition of its storage and battery.
An online feature has a different dependency chain. A login, cloud-save service, download catalog, multiplayer server, telemetry endpoint or third-party application may require an outside service to remain online. If that service closes, the affected feature could stop while the rest of the handheld continues to function. The available ANBERNIC material does not identify every model’s account or server requirements, so no universal promise can be made.

Before relying on a network feature, check whether it still works with Wi-Fi disabled and whether saves are present on the device rather than only in a cloud account. Do not assume that a feature is manufacturer-hosted merely because it appears in a preinstalled menu.
Prepare an owned handheld before support becomes uncertain
- Record the exact identity of the device. Write down the model name, hardware revision if shown, operating-system version and the capacity and brand of any installed microSD card. Firmware and recovery instructions are model-specific.
- Back up personal data. Copy save files, game configurations, BIOS files that you are legally entitled to use, screenshots and other personal data to a computer or another storage device. Test that the backup can be opened before deleting anything from the handheld.
- Save relevant documentation. Keep the model’s official user instructions, troubleshooting pages and firmware-download details as offline files or printed notes where lawful. A bookmarked page is not a backup if the server later disappears.
- Make a recovery plan. If the model supports removable storage, identify a compatible replacement microSD card and note the model-specific capacity and flashing instructions. ANBERNIC’s support material contains separate SD-card guidance; it does not establish one universal card specification.
- Check the device while it works. Confirm that it boots, charges, reads its card and retains saves. Finding a failing card or battery now gives you more options than discovering it after an official download has vanished.
- Keep proof of purchase. Store the order record, seller name, serial number and warranty terms. A marketplace or US warehouse can have rules that differ from the manufacturer’s policy.
A microSD card is optional recovery or storage media, not a requirement for every model and not a guarantee of continued support. Verify compatibility before buying or flashing one.

Flashing firmware can recover a device, but an incorrect image or interrupted process can make the problem worse. ANBERNIC support treats flashing as a troubleshooting step for named cases, not as a universal first action.

For a screen or display problem
ANBERNIC’s “Screen or Display Problem” guidance, modified March 11, 2025, advises trying a firmware flash and links to the model firmware page. Follow that page for the exact model and revision. Do not substitute an image for a visually similar handheld, and do not interrupt power while the device is writing.
For a boot loop on selected RG35XX models
Separate guidance, also modified March 11, 2025, covers the RG35XX H, RG35XX Plus and RG35XX 2024. It gives device-specific battery-reconnection and firmware-flashing steps, then directs the owner to customer service if the problem remains. Those instructions do not establish that the same procedure is safe for other ANBERNIC models.
When not to flash
- Do not begin with a firmware flash when the symptom is only a loose cable, an empty battery or an unverified power supply.
- Do not open the case or disconnect a battery unless the instructions for your exact model call for it and you understand the risk.
- Do not use a recovery image from an unverified source simply because the filename looks close.
- Stop and seek qualified repair help if the device shows swelling, overheating, liquid damage or a damaged charging port.
Buying a new ANBERNIC after US sales end
A US sales withdrawal changes how you acquire a new unit, not whether an owned one can run. Possible routes include remaining US-warehouse inventory, imports and third-party marketplaces, but each route has different delivery, return and warranty terms.

The 2025 report mentioned US-warehouse products and marketplace routes at that time. It does not establish present inventory, authorization or current terms for any particular seller. Verify those details on the listing and in writing before purchase.
A practical decision tree for owners
- You already own one and it works: Keep using it, make backups and save model-specific recovery information.
- You already own one and need a repair: Check the current warranty terms and support instructions first; preserve your data before opening or flashing anything.
- You want to buy one after direct US sales end: Compare warehouse location, returns, taxes and warranty responsibility rather than assuming every listing is equivalent.
- A feature requires an account or server: Identify that service separately and keep local alternatives or exports where the software permits.
- The company disappears completely: Expect support and parts to be the scarce resources; do not interpret that scarcity as an automatic software kill switch.
Bottom line for an ANBERNIC owner
A US sales or shipping withdrawal does not by itself make an already-owned ANBERNIC handheld stop working. Locally installed firmware and locally stored games can remain usable offline. The meaningful preparation is to preserve saves, identify the exact model, retain recovery documentation and understand which features—if any—depend on accounts or outside servers. A complete company shutdown would mainly remove future support, downloads, repairs and parts, so securing those resources while they are available is the sensible precaution.
