Yes. The current PS5 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt supports console mods through an in-game Mods menu powered by mod.io. Launch the game, sign in with a CD PROJEKT RED account, link it to mod.io, subscribe to a console-compatible mod, restart the game, and verify it under Installed. You need an internet connection for first-time browsing and installation, and modded PS5 saves disable Trophies and Achievements.

What PS5 mod support actually includes

Mod support is part of the current The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered release. CD PROJEKT RED released that version on September 29, 2026, with cross-platform mod support through mod.io on consoles. The release includes both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The Remastered version is available on PS5 as a free upgrade for existing owners of the game.

The earlier PS5 Complete Edition established a dedicated PS5 release, a later disc version, and inclusion of both expansions. Whichever supported PS5 installation you use, the mod workflow is handled inside the game rather than through a separate console file-management process.

The official support information lists PlayStation 5 as a supported platform. This does not mean that every mod made for the PC version can run on PS5. Console availability is determined by platform approval, content rules, and technical requirements. A mod must be offered for consoles before it can be installed from the PS5 catalog.

What you need before installing a mod

Requirement Why it matters
A supported PS5 installation of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt The in-game Mods menu is part of the current Remastered release and supported PS5 version.
A CD PROJEKT RED account You must sign in to the account from the game before connecting to the mod catalog.
A mod.io account linked to your CD PROJEKT RED account The official console mod service requires this account connection for browsing and subscribing.
An internet connection Browsing and installing new mods require the console to be online. An already installed modded save can be used offline when all required mods are present.

You do not need a separate hardware accessory to install mods. The game itself provides the supported installation path through its main menu. Owning the game is the prerequisite; the mod subscription process takes place in the game and through mod.io.

How to install a Witcher 3 mod on PS5

Use this sequence for the first mod and for later additions. The menu names below match the official console instructions.

  1. Start the game. Launch the supported PS5 version of The Witcher 3 and wait for the main menu.
  2. Open Mods. Select Mods from the main menu. This is the console catalog entry point; you do not begin by downloading a PC archive.
  3. Sign in to your CD PROJEKT RED account. Follow the on-screen sign-in flow. A linked account is required before the console can use the mod catalog.
  4. Connect the account to mod.io. Complete the account-linking step requested by the game. Console mod access depends on this connection.
  5. Browse a mod’s details page. Open the entry for any mod you are considering and read its description and requirements before subscribing.
  6. Check the platform label. Confirm that the details page displays the Available on consoles tag. If that tag is absent, the mod is not offered for PS5 through the supported catalog.
  7. Select Subscribe. Choose Subscribe on the mod’s details page. This adds the mod to your account’s console installation list.
  8. Restart the game. Exit and relaunch The Witcher 3 so the subscription is loaded by the game.
  9. Verify the installation. Return to Mods, open Installed, and confirm that the mod appears with its checkbox selected. A selected checkbox indicates that the installed mod is enabled.

If a mod does not appear in Installed after the restart, first confirm that you subscribed to the correct entry and that the details page showed Available on consoles. Then check that the same CD PROJEKT RED and mod.io accounts are still connected. A new installation cannot be completed while the console is offline.

Which mods can run on PS5?

PS5 access is limited to mods that have been approved and prepared for consoles. The official FAQ says many mods will be cross-platform, but some PC uploads cannot be brought to console. A PC mod’s existence, popularity, or compatibility with the PC release does not guarantee that it will appear in the PS5 catalog.

Check on a mod page What it tells you
Available on consoles tag The mod has a console listing and can be considered for PS5 installation.
Compatibility with the current Remastered patch Whether the upload has been updated for the current game version. Older files may need an update before they work.
Use of XML, script, or w3strings files These file types are especially important after an update. Files created before the update may fail unless they are updated in REDkit.
Gameplay, visual, or quality-of-life purpose Helps you predict what the mod changes and whether it belongs in a new playthrough or an existing save.
Save and cross-progression requirements Determines whether the same compatible mod set must be enabled on another platform before a save can load correctly.

Console approval is therefore a practical filter, not merely a search preference. If a PC upload lacks the console tag, there is no supported PS5 subscription route for that upload in the in-game catalog.

Can you use Nexus Mods or Steam Workshop on PS5?

Nexus Mods and Steam Workshop remain PC distribution channels for The Witcher 3. Console mod access uses mod.io instead, and the official FAQ identifies mod.io as required for console mods. On PS5, start from the game’s Mods menu, link the required accounts, and subscribe to entries that are marked Available on consoles.

This distinction matters because a PC installation method and a console installation method are not interchangeable. A mod page or file intended for a PC copy may depend on files, scripts, or tools that are not approved for the PS5 catalog. Use the console listing and its requirements rather than assuming that a PC download can be transferred to the console.

Can PS5 players create Witcher 3 mods?

No. PS5 players can install and play console-approved mods, but mod creation takes place on a PC. The official FAQ specifies that Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players can use the cross-platform catalog while mods must be created with a mod creator such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit on PC.

Console script mods have an additional requirement: they must be created with REDkit. The PS5 is therefore a consumption and testing platform for approved uploads, not the development environment. If you want to build or adapt a mod for console publication, the creation workflow starts on PC and must meet the requirements for a console-compatible upload.

What happens to saves, Trophies, and offline play?

Modded saves receive a visual marker

When a save has been created or used with mods, it is marked with a mod.io cog icon. The icon helps distinguish a modded save from an unmodded one when you are choosing a file to load.

Trophies and Achievements are disabled

On console modded saves, Trophies and Achievements are disabled. This is the most important trade-off to decide before enabling a mod on a long-running playthrough. If earning PS5 Trophies matters for a save, keep that playthrough unmodded and use a separate save for experimentation.

Offline use is limited to already installed content

An already installed modded save can be used offline when every mod required by that save is present on the console. You cannot install new mods while offline, because first-time browsing and installation require an internet connection. Reconnect before attempting to discover, subscribe to, or add another mod.

How cross-progression works with mods

Cross-progression requires the same compatible set of mods on both the PC and PS5 versions involved in the transfer. If a save depends on a mod that is missing or incompatible on the target platform, the save may not load correctly.

Before moving a modded save between platforms, make a written list of the enabled mods and compare that list with the target platform’s catalog. Each required mod needs a compatible version on the destination platform, not merely a similarly named upload. A PC-only mod cannot satisfy a PS5 save’s dependency if no console version exists.

The safest workflow is to keep the mod set deliberately small when you expect to switch platforms. Subscribe to the console versions first, enable the same compatible set, and only then attempt to load the cross-progression save. If the destination lacks one required mod, return to the source platform and create or use a save that does not depend on the missing content.

Why a mod may stop working after an update

Game updates can affect older mod files. CD PROJEKT RED specifically warns that mods containing XML files, script files, or w3strings created before the update may not work afterward unless they are updated in REDkit.

That warning explains why a previously working subscription can fail after the Remastered version changes. The subscription may still be present, but the files can require a revised build. Check the mod’s details and compatibility information before blaming the PS5 installation. If the upload has not been updated for the current version, wait for a compatible release rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same outdated files.

  • After an update, check the mod page first. Look for a current compatibility note or updated upload.
  • Pay particular attention to XML, script, and w3strings content. These are the file types called out in the official support guidance.
  • Do not assume a successful old subscription proves current compatibility. The game version and the mod build must match.
  • For a console script mod, the creator must update it with REDkit. A PS5 user cannot perform that conversion on the console.

Practical troubleshooting on PS5

The Mods menu is missing

Confirm that you are running the supported PS5 installation of The Witcher 3 and that the game is fully updated to the current Remastered release. The official support page lists PS5 as a supported platform, so the menu should be available in that supported build. If you are using a different installation or an outdated build, update or launch the supported version before continuing.

The account-linking step will not complete

Check that you can sign in to your CD PROJEKT RED account and that the account is connected to mod.io. Both parts of the connection are required. A game session that is online but not authenticated to the linked accounts will not provide the complete console catalog workflow.

The mod cannot be found

Open the mod’s details page through the in-game catalog and verify the Available on consoles tag. A PC upload without that label is not a PS5 listing. The absence of the tag is a platform-availability limitation, not necessarily a search error.

The subscription does not show as active

Restart the game after selecting Subscribe. Then open Mods, choose Installed, and look for the entry with its checkbox selected. If it is still absent, verify the account connection and internet access, then confirm that you subscribed to the console-compatible entry rather than a PC-only listing.

A modded save will not load on another platform

Compare the enabled mod set on the source and target platforms. The target must have the same compatible mods required by the save. Missing or incompatible mods can prevent correct loading, so install and enable the corresponding console versions before transferring the save, or use a save that does not depend on the unavailable mod.

A mod worked before the game update but not afterward

Review whether the mod contains XML, script, or w3strings files created before the update. Those files may need an updated REDkit build. The issue is version compatibility, and reinstalling an unchanged old upload does not update its underlying files.

PS5 console mods versus PC mods

Capability PS5 PC
How mods are discovered In-game Mods menu connected to mod.io PC distribution channels such as Nexus Mods and Steam Workshop remain available
How installation begins Open a catalog entry and select Subscribe Depends on the PC distribution and mod’s installation method
Console availability requirement Entry must show Available on consoles PC compatibility is evaluated for the PC installation
Mod creation Not supported on the console Created on PC with a mod creator; REDkit is required for console script mods
Trophies and Achievements Disabled on modded save files The cited console restriction applies to console modded saves
Offline behavior Existing modded saves work offline when required mods are installed; new installation requires internet Depends on the PC setup and distribution service

The table is a workflow comparison, not a promise that a particular PC mod has a console equivalent. The console catalog remains the authority for what can actually be installed on PS5.

A sensible way to plan a modded playthrough

  1. Decide whether Trophies matter for this save. Modded console saves disable them, so make that decision before starting a major quest line.
  2. Choose the purpose of the mod. Separate gameplay changes, visual changes, and quality-of-life changes so you understand what each subscription is meant to do.
  3. Confirm console availability. Do not rely on a PC listing; check for the Available on consoles tag in the in-game details page.
  4. Check current-version compatibility. Be especially cautious with XML, script, and w3strings files after an update.
  5. Install one change at a time when possible. Subscribing and testing individually makes it easier to identify a compatibility problem.
  6. Restart and verify. After each subscription, restart the game and confirm the selected checkbox under Installed.
  7. Keep cross-progression in mind. If you may move the save to PC or back to PS5, maintain the same compatible mod set on both platforms.
  8. Keep an unmodded save available. This preserves a path for Trophy progress and gives you a fallback if an update makes a mod incompatible.

What the answer means for common PS5 questions

Does owning the PS5 disc change the mod process?

No. The PS5 disc or digital ownership gives you access to the supported game installation, but mod installation still happens through the in-game Mods menu and mod.io account connection. No separate accessory is required.

Are all console mods cross-platform?

Many mods are intended to be cross-platform, but not all PC uploads can be brought to console. Treat the Available on consoles tag and the mod’s compatibility information as the deciding evidence for a PS5 installation.

Can I add a new mod while traveling without internet?

No. New mod browsing and installation require an internet connection. You can use an already installed modded save offline only when every required mod is already present.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I retain Trophies by loading a modded save briefly?

Console Trophies and Achievements are disabled on modded save files. If Trophy progress is the priority, use an unmodded save rather than relying on a short modded session.

Bottom line for PS5 players

The supported answer is straightforward: install mods from The Witcher 3‘s PS5 Mods menu through mod.io, not through a PC file workflow. Link a CD PROJEKT RED account, confirm the Available on consoles label, subscribe, restart, and verify the selected entry under Installed. Plan around the permanent practical limits: PS5 cannot create mods, only approved console versions are available, updates can break older XML/script/w3strings files, modded saves disable Trophies and Achievements, and cross-progression requires the same compatible mods on both platforms.
