Not necessarily. Windows 11 version 26H2 is available, but the evidence does not show that a Tiny or Nano installation image for 26H2 will work on “almost all” unsupported PCs. Microsoft’s availability announcement applies to eligible devices, and the cited Tiny/Nano tests were experimental, predate 26H2, and do not establish broad compatibility.
What the 26H2 release means for unsupported PCs
Microsoft announced Windows 11 version 26H2, also called the Windows 11 2026 Update, on September 29, 2026. It is rolling out in phases to eligible Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 devices. Those versions share a servicing foundation, so some eligible PCs can receive 26H2 as a small enablement package. That does not mean Windows Update will offer it to every PC, or that an unsupported device qualifies. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 release information and 26H2 release health.
Does a smaller ISO make an unsupported PC compatible?
No such conclusion is established. A third-party image builder can remove Windows components and applications, reducing the image’s size, but that is a separate matter from satisfying hardware requirements or making setup succeed. The available report does not show that a reduced image removes every CPU, TPM, Secure Boot, driver, or other barrier across nearly all unsupported computers.
Tom’s Hardware reported a 2025 experiment using Nano11 Builder to generate Tiny and Nano images from an official Windows ISO. It described the project as an experimental testbed, not mission-critical software. The report does not test a 26H2 image or a representative range of unsupported PCs. Its results therefore cannot verify the headline claim for 26H2.

What the earlier experiment did—and did not—show
In Tom’s Hardware’s 2025 report, the Microsoft base image was 5.69 GB, the Tiny image 2.81 GB, and the Nano image 2.14 GB. These sizes came from an uncontrolled comparison: Tiny and Nano were tested in a VirtualBox virtual machine with 8 GB of RAM, four cores, and a 40 GB virtual disk, while the full image was tested on a Lenovo X220. The figures are not a matched performance benchmark and say nothing about 26H2 compatibility.
The report also described the Nano installation as using 8.36 GB of disk and Tiny as using 10.1 GB. The tested images lacked even a web browser by default. The author encountered setup failures and had to use an older setup process; that is one reported experience, not a universal failure rate or a current 26H2 installation guide. Read the Tom’s Hardware report for the scope of that experiment.

What Microsoft says about installing Windows on unsupported hardware
Microsoft does not recommend installing Windows 11 on a PC below the minimum system requirements. Its installation-media guidance warns that such a PC “will no longer be supported and won’t be entitled to receive updates.” Microsoft separately says unsupported devices “aren’t guaranteed to receive updates, including but not limited to security updates.” These warnings apply to devices that do not meet the requirements; they are not erased by using a smaller ISO. See Microsoft’s guidance on installing Windows 11 on devices that do not meet minimum requirements and its Windows 11 download and installation-media instructions.
An installer completing is not the same as supported operation, reliable driver behavior, or guaranteed security updates. The available sources do not quantify whether a stripped image changes the success of 26H2 servicing.

Official installation media versus a third-party reduced image
| Factor | Microsoft installation media | Tiny/Nano-style image in the cited report |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Downloaded or created through Microsoft’s Windows 11 page. | Generated by a third-party script from an official ISO, as described in the 2025 report. |
| Components | Standard Windows installation media; the cited instructions do not describe it as stripped down. | Applications and features are removed; the tested Nano image lacked a browser. Components can vary by build. |
| Compatibility evidence | Microsoft describes supported installation in relation to system requirements. | The cited report covers earlier experimental tests, not 26H2 or a broad unsupported-PC sample. |
| Updates | Microsoft’s published servicing and support information applies within its stated eligibility and edition scope. | Update success for a 26H2-derived reduced image is not established by the cited report. |
| Intended use | Microsoft’s standard installation workflow. | The report presents the builder as experimental and cautions against mission-critical use. |
If you plan to create installation media
Microsoft’s media-creation workflow calls for a blank USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of space and deletes the drive’s contents. Back up anything you need before starting. The download page offers x64 and Arm64 options; Microsoft notes that its Media Creation Tool creates x64 media. Follow Microsoft’s current instructions and check system requirements for supported installation.
Do not treat Microsoft’s standard ISO as interchangeable with a modified Tiny or Nano image. The latter is a third-party-derived build, and the cited 2025 account does not establish a current 26H2 release or compatibility result.

How long 26H2 is supported
Microsoft lists 24 months of support for Windows 11 26H2 Home and Pro editions and 36 months for Enterprise and Education editions. These are edition lifecycle durations for supported use; they are not a promise of updates or support for a PC that fails Windows 11’s minimum requirements. Check Microsoft’s release information for current lifecycle details.
