You should not start a new RAGE:MP server in 2026. The RAGE:MP team said it had stopped accepting new community servers and discontinued public access to the server toolkit. Its announced August 31, 2026 end-of-support and backend-shutdown date has passed. For existing operators, the team’s stated direction was to wind down and migrate to FiveM—not to follow an old setup guide as if the platform were still accepting new servers.

RAGE:MP’s announced shutdown dates have passed

In an announcement posted May 25, 2026, the RAGE:MP team said it was no longer accepting new community servers and had discontinued public access to the server toolkit. It also set two dates: public-listing closure on June 1, 2026, and platform end-of-support and backend shutdown on August 31, 2026. As of October 13, 2026, both deadlines are in the past. Read the RAGE:MP team’s announcement.

The sequence matters. The public-listing deadline and the end-of-support/backend-shutdown deadline were separate milestones, not alternate dates for one event. Both have passed, and the team’s announcement also said public access to the toolkit had already been discontinued. This is a platform-status change, not merely a change to an installation process or a temporary adjustment to hosting plans.

The announcement’s instruction to existing operators was direct: “We are asking all server owners to wind down their operations and migrate to FiveM.” The team said Cfx would offer support for transition questions. That is a migration direction, not a promise of automatic conversion or an endorsement of a particular hosting company.

  • This game will no longer support Windows 7 or 8 operating systems starting January 30, 2024.

The RAGE:MP team’s May 25, 2026 announcement states the service status and its deadlines. It does not independently establish whether every former private server process or locally held file became inaccessible after the backend shutdown. That uncertainty is not a basis for treating RAGE:MP as an available new-server project: the toolkit is no longer publicly available according to the announcement, and the stated end-of-support date has passed. This article therefore distinguishes the team’s announced status from what might remain on an individual operator’s machine.

Can you still make a RAGE:MP server?

Not as a supported new deployment using the public RAGE:MP toolkit. The team said it would accept no new community servers and had ended public toolkit access. Buying a more powerful PC, opening router ports, or renting a server cannot restore that access or reverse the announced backend shutdown.

If you operate an existing server, use the shutdown announcement as the basis for a wind-down and migration plan. If you are starting from scratch, direct your effort toward a currently supported platform rather than relying on an archived RAGE:MP installation tutorial. The old wiki remains useful for understanding historical configuration and identifying project files, but its instructions predate the shutdown notice.

A hosting company may be able to provide a machine, storage, or general server-management tools, but those things are not the same as access to the discontinued RAGE:MP toolkit or support from the platform. No current RAGE:MP hosting option is established here as a way around the announcement.

What old RAGE:MP setup guides describe

The RAGE:MP wiki documented Windows and Linux setup procedures. These are historical references only—not a reliable recipe for creating a new server now that public toolkit access has been discontinued and the announced shutdown date has passed. The legacy server setup wiki explains the original workflow.

It can still be useful to understand those instructions if you are identifying an old installation, documenting how it was assembled, or locating files for a migration review. But an archived guide cannot establish that its download path still works, that its components remain supported, or that a server launched from old files can use the platform as before. Treat any such instructions as historical context, not as an endorsed recovery or deployment recipe.

Windows: updater and server executable

The wiki’s Windows approach required the RAGE:MP client and the latest Visual C++ Redistributable. It described changing the client configuration to the server prerelease channel, running the updater, extracting the resulting server_files directory, restoring the client configuration, running the updater again, and launching ragemp-server.exe. Because public toolkit access was later discontinued, this workflow should not be treated as a current, dependable way to obtain server files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The important point for a former operator is what the steps tell you about an old setup: the server files were tied to a client-updater workflow, and the server executable was part of the extracted files. The old directions do not provide a substitute public distribution channel after the later announcement. Do not confuse possession of an executable or an old directory with current platform access or support.

Linux: extracted files and executable

The Linux instructions described downloading and extracting the Linux server files, marking the server program executable, and running ragemp-server. The wiki also presented systemd as an option for running a server in the background. Those steps explain old deployments; they do not establish that the required files or backend services are currently available.

Systemd in this context is a historical way to run a process as a background service; it does not solve the separate platform-status issue. Likewise, having a Linux machine ready or knowing how to mark a binary executable cannot replace access to the discontinued toolkit. The same limit applies to Windows and Linux: the operating system steps are not evidence of a viable new RAGE:MP deployment in October 2026.

Historical ports and configuration: what they meant

For a legacy installation, the wiki documented a server access port and a separate HTTP port for client packages. It advised operators to forward the ports at the router and allow them through the firewall. These are historical settings, not evidence that opening them will make a RAGE:MP server reachable or supported today. The server settings reference and setup wiki describe the configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Setting or port Legacy documented value Historical purpose or qualification
Server access 22005 by default The server’s default port in the settings reference.
HTTP client-package hosting 22006 by default The port following the server port was used to host client packages over HTTP.
bind 127.0.0.1 by default The documented bind address; it is a default value, not a recommendation for a public deployment.
maxplayers 100 by default A documented configuration default, not a tested capacity or performance guarantee.
gamemode Freeroam by default The documented default mode.
stream-distance 500.0 by default A documented setting default, not a performance recommendation.

If you searched “what ports does a RAGE:MP server need?”, the historically documented answer is 22005 for server access and 22006 by default for HTTP hosting of client packages. The wiki advised forwarding ports at the router and allowing them through the firewall. The cited RAGE:MP materials do not specify a transport protocol, so do not assume or add one from this information alone.

Also keep port configuration separate from platform availability. Forwarding these ports may have been part of a legacy network setup, but it cannot restore a backend, reinstate public toolkit access, or make the platform supported after its announced shutdown. For a successor platform, confirm its own current network requirements rather than carrying over RAGE:MP port settings by habit.

The legacy project’s main configuration file was conf.json. The settings reference lists fields including announce, bind, gamemode, name, maxplayers, and port. Do not infer that the listed defaults are appropriate for a different platform, a public server, or a particular player count. Configuration names and values belong to the old platform unless the successor’s own documentation says otherwise.

The old settings page also warns that enable-http-security can cause a resource-download problem in at least the RAGE 1.1 behavior it references. This is a version-specific legacy note, not a reason to modify a new or successor-platform server setting. It is a useful reminder to record the version and context when reviewing an old configuration rather than applying a setting tip without its original caveat.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The available RAGE:MP references do not establish current CPU, RAM, player-capacity, or bandwidth requirements. The old maxplayers default of 100 is not a sizing guide, and there is no supported basis here for recommending hardware specifications. Similarly, the sources do not establish a hosting price, a current RAGE:MP plan, or an amount that an operator should budget to keep a RAGE:MP server online.

Inventory your old project before moving it

If you have a legacy RAGE:MP project, its directory structure can help you locate the material you may need to review for a successor project. The development guide describes these common folders and files:

  • client_packages for client-side resources.
  • packages for server-side resources.
  • maps for map files.
  • plugins for custom DLL plugins.
  • conf.json for server configuration.

The same guide discusses Node.js development and identifies C# as another scripting option. These labels can help you make an inventory, but they do not mean that the code, resources, plugins, maps, or settings can be copied unchanged into FiveM. A folder’s name tells you something about its historical role; it does not guarantee that its contents use a compatible format or interface on another platform.

For a useful first-pass inventory, record which folders and files exist, note which ones contain client or server logic, and identify any plugins or outside services your community depends on. Keep the original material intact while you review it; the sources do not describe a conversion utility that can replace or reconstruct it. The goal at this stage is to understand the scope of the project and what needs an explicit compatibility check, not to claim that every item can be migrated.

How to plan a move from RAGE:MP to FiveM

The RAGE:MP announcement identifies FiveM as the destination for operators, and says Cfx would offer help with transition questions. The cited RAGE:MP materials do not document a complete RAGE:MP-to-FiveM conversion process, a one-click importer, or guaranteed compatibility. Treat migration as a project to assess and rebuild, not as a server-file rename.

  1. Record what you have. Make an inventory of your resources, scripts, maps, plugins, configuration, and any data or service dependencies. Use the legacy folder names above to locate files. Preserve original copies so your working migration does not overwrite the only version.
  2. Separate assets from platform-specific code. Identify which files are maps or other assets and which contain server or client logic, configuration, or plugin integrations. The old development guide’s Node.js and C# references describe RAGE:MP development options; they do not establish FiveM compatibility.
  3. Ask Cfx about transition questions. The RAGE:MP team said Cfx would offer support for transition questions. Use that channel to clarify FiveM’s current requirements and the appropriate approach for your particular resources. The announcement does not promise that Cfx will convert a server or its code for you.
  4. Rebuild and validate on the successor platform. Plan to adapt or replace platform-dependent scripts and integrations, then test the result in FiveM before directing a community to it. The cited sources do not provide conversion commands, compatibility guarantees, or a complete migration checklist for particular mods.
  5. Choose new hosting only after confirming the target requirements. Verify that a provider supports the current FiveM setup you intend to run, can accommodate your resources and data workflow, and offers the location, backups, security, support, and recurring cost your community needs. Do not assume a provider’s old RAGE:MP support implies FiveM migration assistance.

In practical terms, the first decision is whether you are preserving a project for reference or preparing a successor server for players. Those are different tasks. For reference, the legacy folders and configuration can help explain how the old project was organized. For a FiveM move, the important question is what can be adapted, what must be replaced, and what the new platform requires; the RAGE:MP sources do not settle those compatibility questions for you.

Be cautious about promises of automatic migration. The announcement names a destination and transition support for questions, but it does not describe a one-click conversion, guarantee that scripts or plugins work, or say a hosting provider will perform code conversion. Ask precisely what a helper means by “migration”: copying files, moving data, setting up a server, adapting code, and validating the result are distinct scopes of work.

What to verify before choosing successor-platform hosting

There are no meaningful current RAGE:MP hosting options to compare on the evidence available here. For a FiveM project, evaluate providers against the actual requirements of your rebuilt server rather than assuming that a generic game-server plan will fit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Platform support: Confirm the provider supports the FiveM deployment model and server configuration you plan to use.
  • Migration and imports: Ask what, if anything, the provider can import or help migrate. Distinguish file transfer from code conversion or compatibility work.
  • Location and latency: Select a server location suited to where your players are; ask about available regions rather than assuming coverage.
  • Resources and data: Check how server resources, databases, and any external dependencies are handled, and whether you can export your files and data.
  • Backups and recovery: Establish what is backed up, how often, how long backups are retained, and how restoration works.
  • Security and support: Confirm the protections and support hours included in the plan, and how to reach support during an incident.
  • Total recurring cost: Compare the full ongoing cost for the needed configuration and add-ons, not just a headline starting price.

If you are rebuilding on FiveM, Godlike.Host offers FiveM servers with a personal firewall and up to three free backups a day with restore, so you can check it against the list above. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).

These checks are comparison criteria, not provider endorsements or claims that every service offers the same features. A sensible comparison asks providers the same questions and records the answers: whether the intended FiveM setup is supported, what assistance is included, what can be exported, where the server can be located, and which protections and support are actually part of the quoted plan.

There is no price comparison to give for current RAGE:MP hosting in the sources cited here, and no named commercial provider has been verified or endorsed. For FiveM, establish the full recurring cost for the configuration and add-ons you need, and check any separate migration or support charges. Ask for current answers in writing before moving a community. None of the cited RAGE:MP sources establishes that a named provider offers FiveM migration services.

Frequently asked questions

Can I host a RAGE:MP server at home in 2026?

The team said it would stop accepting new community servers and discontinue public toolkit access, and its announced end-of-support and backend-shutdown date has passed. A home PC and router configuration cannot reverse those platform changes. The sources do not establish whether every old private process or local file is inaccessible, but they do not support treating a home-hosted new server as a current, supported project.

What ports did a RAGE:MP server use?

The historical wiki documented port 22005 for server access and 22006 by default for HTTP hosting of client packages. It advised forwarding ports at the router and allowing them through the firewall. These legacy values do not prove that the service is currently available, and the cited material here does not specify a transport protocol.

Can I get the old server files from the updater?

The Windows wiki described obtaining files through the client updater and extracting server_files, while the Linux instructions described downloading and extracting Linux server files. Those are old workflows. Because the later announcement says public toolkit access was discontinued, the wiki instructions are not a reliable current download route.

How do I move my RAGE:MP server to FiveM?

The RAGE:MP team directed existing operators to migrate to FiveM and said Cfx would offer support for transition questions. Start by inventorying your resources, scripts, maps, plugins, configuration, and dependencies; then determine what needs adapting or replacing and validate the successor project. The cited materials do not document a complete conversion procedure or guarantee that old code will work unchanged.

Will my Node.js or C# scripts work on FiveM?

The RAGE:MP development guide identifies Node.js and C# as development options for that platform, but it does not establish compatibility with FiveM. Treat each script and integration as something to assess rather than assume it can be copied over.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How much RAM or CPU do I need, and what will hosting cost?

The available RAGE:MP sources give no current hardware-sizing recommendations, supported player-capacity guidance, bandwidth figure, or hosting prices. The documented maxplayers default of 100 is a configuration value, not a performance guarantee. For a FiveM successor, verify current platform and provider requirements for the server you intend to build and compare the full recurring cost.

Does a hosting provider or the RAGE:MP team automatically convert my server?

No automatic conversion is documented in the cited sources. The announcement names FiveM as the migration direction and says Cfx would offer transition-question support; it does not promise code conversion. Verify exactly what any provider includes, distinguishing file transfer and setup from script adaptation and compatibility work.

Bottom line for RAGE:MP server owners

In 2026, the practical answer is not to follow an old guide to launch a new RAGE:MP server. The team announced an end to new community-server acceptance and public toolkit access, followed by an August 31, 2026 end-of-support and backend-shutdown deadline. Existing operators were told to wind down and migrate to FiveM, with Cfx identified for transition questions. Legacy ports, defaults, and folder names are useful only for understanding or inventorying an old project; they do not make RAGE:MP a current hosting option.

For former operators, preserve and inventory the legacy project, then assess a FiveM migration with Cfx’s transition support. Old port numbers and setup instructions explain historical deployments; they are not a current RAGE:MP hosting recipe.
