Yes, Cloudflare can host a low-volume notes app without a Cloudflare hosting charge if it fits within the free Workers and D1 allowances. A practical starting architecture is a Worker for server-side logic and D1 for structured note data. But the title’s “exact setup” and “private” claims cannot be confirmed for a specific app: no app, source code, authentication design, or tested backup-and-restore path is identified here. Hosting on Cloudflare alone does not establish that notes are private.
Cloudflare’s current guidance favors Workers for new projects. The limits below reflect Cloudflare documentation available as of October 2026 and can change.
Can I host a notes app on Cloudflare for free?
Cloudflare offers the components for a small server-rendered or API-backed notes app: Workers runs application code, and D1 is a managed SQL database with SQLite semantics. This is a plausible architecture, not a verified deployment recipe. The specific app, its schema, migrations, authentication, and operational behavior are not established, so there are no defensible app-specific commands or UI steps to reproduce.

Workers with D1
In this arrangement, the Worker handles requests and application logic while D1 stores relational note data. D1 is a managed serverless SQL database; its SQLite semantics make it suitable in principle for structured records. Whether it suits an actual app depends on that app’s data model, queries, and traffic. Cloudflare describes D1 in its D1 overview.
Pages with Functions
Pages can deploy a full-stack project, with Pages Functions providing server-side behavior. Cloudflare’s current recommendation is to start new projects with Workers rather than assume Pages is the default. Pages may still fit an existing project or workflow that uses Pages-specific features.

What does $0/month include?
As of October 2026, the figures below are Cloudflare’s published plan allowances, not an estimate of a particular app’s use. “$0/month” means Cloudflare hosting may remain within free allowances; it does not guarantee a zero total bill. Domain registration and other third-party costs are outside these Cloudflare figures.

What happens when a free-tier limit is reached?
Free allowances are capacity limits, not a promise of uninterrupted service at any usage level. Cloudflare says D1 Free queries fail after the daily read or write allowance is reached. If the storage limit is reached, inserts and changes to tables, indexes, or triggers are blocked until space is freed or the plan is upgraded. See Cloudflare’s D1 FAQs.

Worker requests and CPU time also have published Free limits. An app’s actual fit depends on request volume and the work performed per invocation; no usage measurements for a particular notes app are established here.

- Whether data is encrypted at rest or end-to-end, and who can decrypt it.
- How login, authorization, and session cookies are implemented.
- How application secrets are stored and protected.
- Who can access account-level data.
- Whether backups exist and whether restoring them has been tested.
Before storing sensitive notes, check the app’s own security documentation and implementation for those details. Treat claims about privacy, encryption, and recovery as unverified unless the app’s evidence supports them.

What should you verify before choosing this architecture?
- Application fit: Confirm that the app supports Workers and D1, including its schema and migration process; the platform’s availability does not show that a particular app is compatible.
- Usage fit: Estimate daily Worker requests, per-invocation CPU use, D1 rows read and written, and database growth against the published limits.
- Deployment fit: Choose Workers for a new project in line with Cloudflare’s guidance; consider Pages when an existing project or Pages-specific workflow makes it appropriate, accounting for Function requests against Workers usage.
- Recovery fit: Establish how data is backed up and restored before relying on the app for important notes. The Cloudflare limits cited here do not establish an app’s backup or recovery behavior.
- Total cost: Check for domain or other third-party charges separately; they are not included in the Cloudflare plan allowances above.
