No—not as a free permanent copy through the official EA or Steam listings checked on October 7, 2026. Both U.S. storefronts listed The Sims 3 for $19.99. EA also describes access to The Sims 3 Starter Pack through EA Play Pro, but that is a paid subscription, not a free purchase.
Is The Sims 3 free on EA or Steam?
The official EA and Steam store pages reviewed list The Sims 3 as a paid game, at $19.99 in their U.S. storefronts. EA’s page links to purchase through the EA app and Steam; Steam identifies Electronic Arts as publisher and The Sims Studio and Maxis as developers. Prices and availability can differ by country and change, so check your local listing before buying.

EA describes The Sims 3 Starter Pack as available through EA Play Pro. That route requires a paid membership. Check the current subscription price, regional catalog, included content, and terms directly with EA before subscribing; the reviewed sources do not establish the precise current conditions for access after a membership ends. See The Sims 3 on EA or check its Steam listing.
Can you play The Sims 3 without buying it?
The official option identified for access without a separate one-time purchase is EA Play Pro, which is a paid subscription rather than free access. A subscription and a purchase differ in total cost and how long you can access included games. Review EA’s current terms and catalog in your region before deciding.

Be cautious about secondhand copies that rely on a serial code. EA’s terms say The Sims 3 online services require an EA account and game registration with a serial code; a code can be registered to only one EA account and is non-transferable. A used copy may therefore not provide usable access if its code has already been redeemed. Confirm the code and entitlement with EA before paying. Read EA’s user agreement.
What can you play for free instead?
EA lists The Sims 4 base game at $0.00 on its official product page. It is a different game, not a free copy of The Sims 3. EA announced that the base game would become free to download for new players beginning October 18, 2022, on PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox through the listed official platforms. Expansion packs and other add-ons may cost extra.
