Yes. You can earn the Necrofluid Gauntlet alone in a Zombies match on Ashes of the Damned. The quest is listed as “Solo or Co-op,” and the later encounter is described as difficult solo but still possible. You do not need a second player to make the Wonder Weapon appear.

Solo completion is an execution challenge rather than a separate reward track. You must handle the Klaus fight, escort commands, timed Aether Barrel charges, symbol puzzle, and basement trial yourself. The safest approach is to learn the route before attempting it and protect the barrel’s charge window.

What the Necrofluid Gauntlet is

The Necrofluid Gauntlet is the map-specific Wonder Weapon for Ashes of the Damned in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies. It is earned through a multi-stage quest; it is not placed in your hands when the match begins.

Call of Duty’s official Zombies deep dive describes the weapon this way: “Command the Gauntlet, and the dark liquid can be reshaped into powerful spikes that shoot forth, skewering targets at range before being summoned back into the Gauntlet, inflicting further damage.” The same description says the Gauntlet can pull items and Power-Ups from a distance. That combination gives it both a ranged attack and a utility function during a crowded round.

The acquisition takes place on Ashes of the Damned. A guide from PC Gamer identifies the team-size requirement as “Solo or Co-op,” while GameSpot also documents the quest as a sequence that can be completed in a Zombies match rather than a co-op-only activity.

Is the Gauntlet quest soloable?

Yes. Solo mode supports the complete acquisition chain. The important distinction is that “soloable” does not mean easy: one player must perform every movement, defense, escort, puzzle, and escape task, with no teammate available to revive them or hold zombies away from an objective.

GameSpot describes the broader quest as beginning with activation of three power generators before the remaining Wonder Weapon steps. PC Gamer’s detailed walkthrough then lays out the operational chain as Uber Klaus, the Aether Barrel, three pump charges, the Vandorn Farm cube, and the basement trial. Follow the on-screen quest prompts if your game presents the generator activation first; the sequence below covers the named Gauntlet steps and the locations attached to them.

Solo acquisition route, step by step

1. Defeat Uber Klaus at Janus Towers Plaza

Uber Klaus can spawn from Round 8 onward at Janus Towers Plaza. Defeat him and collect the Stabilizer Chip he drops. Because the chip is the item that starts the Klaus activation stage, do not leave the area without confirming that it is in your inventory.

  • Location: Janus Towers Plaza.
  • Earliest published timing: Round 8 onward, according to PC Gamer’s walkthrough.
  • Reward: Stabilizer Chip.

In solo play, this fight consumes your attention without another player to draw enemies away. Clear enough space to move before committing to the pickup, then travel directly to the jail stage rather than taking unnecessary detours.

2. Activate Klaus in the Ashwood jail

Take the Stabilizer Chip to Klaus in the Ashwood jail and install it. The activation requires three Stun Grenades: hit Klaus with all three, then use the Tactical-equipment command to direct him. The command is the interaction that tells Klaus where to move; use the prompt displayed by your game rather than assuming a particular controller button.

This is the first point at which solo preparation matters. Bring three Stun Grenades for the activation and keep the jail area manageable before you begin. If a grenade misses, do not assume the step completed; watch for the game’s confirmation and use the remaining equipment only when Klaus is in position.

3. Send Klaus to the Support Systems room at Zarya Cosmodrome

Direct the activated Klaus to Zarya Cosmodrome. In the Support Systems room, command him to the control panel. A scan begins, and you must defend Klaus and the panel until it finishes. When the scan is complete, collect the Aether Barrel.

The escort is more demanding alone because movement and defense cannot be split. Stay close enough to respond to enemies but do not block Klaus’s route to the panel. Pick up the barrel only after the scan objective has registered; the following pump sequence depends on carrying it through the map.

4. Charge the Aether Barrel at three pumps

The barrel must be charged at three locations:

  1. Blackwater Lake.
  2. Ashwood.
  3. Vandorn Farm.

The charge decays on a timer. That timer is the clearest solo failure point: travel, combat, and navigation all consume the same window, and there is no teammate to carry out a parallel task. PC Gamer advises leaving Vandorn Farm for last and warns that using Jump Pads makes you drop the barrel.

Plan the route before picking up the barrel. Move between the pumps without using Jump Pads, and avoid side objectives that can delay the next charge. If the timer expires, the published instructions do not describe a shortcut that preserves the charge; be prepared to repeat the charging sequence according to the objective prompt.

5. Solve the Vandorn Farm cube

At Vandorn Farm, go to the cube in the barn cellar and interact with it. The cube puzzle uses three glowing symbols located on rooftops near Janus Towers Plaza:

  1. Use the Jump Pad toward Janus Towers Plaza to reach the viewing route.
  2. Look at the three glowing rooftop symbols and memorize their order or arrangement.
  3. Return to the barn cellar.
  4. Set the cube’s symbols to match what you observed.

The Jump Pad warning applies to the barrel-carrying section. The cube instructions specifically use a Jump Pad to view the rooftop symbols, so complete the pump charges and reach the puzzle stage before making that trip. Take a moment to record the symbols mentally in a fixed order; confusing their positions is more likely than a combat failure once the cellar is clear.

6. Complete the acquisition trial

When the cube is set correctly, the Necrofluid Gauntlet appears and the basement trial begins. Destroy the green orbs and the zombies that spawn in the basement. After the trial objectives are complete, escape the area and return to Ol’ Tessie to finish the acquisition sequence.

Do not treat the weapon’s appearance as the end of the quest. The orb destruction, zombie spawns, escape, and return to Ol’ Tessie are part of the published route. Confirm the final objective before leaving so that you do not have to repeat the room.

Why solo is harder than co-op

The objectives themselves do not change into a separate solo version. The difficulty comes from task load. In co-op, players can divide travel, defense, escort positioning, and crowd control. Alone, every interruption costs time from the same player who is carrying the objective.

Comparison point Solo Co-op
Task load One player handles the full quest chain, combat, navigation, and interactions. Players can divide movement, defense, and objective duties.
Timed travel The Aether Barrel’s charge timer competes with every detour and fight. One player can protect or scout while another moves the objective.
Escort safety You must command Klaus and defend the scan without a second player covering you. Players can split Klaus management and enemy control.
Revive margin A down during a critical step can end the attempt because there is no teammate to revive you. A teammate can provide a revive opportunity while the objective is active.
Boss difficulty The later Veytharion encounter is described as hard to pull off solo, but not impossible. Additional players can share pressure during the encounter.

No published source provides a trustworthy average completion time, solo success rate, or percentage advantage for co-op. Treat the comparison as a description of responsibilities, not a numerical performance claim.

Practical solo checklist

  • Reach Round 8 or later and watch for Uber Klaus at Janus Towers Plaza.
  • Collect the Stabilizer Chip before leaving the Klaus fight.
  • Carry three Stun Grenades for the Ashwood jail activation.
  • Use the Tactical-equipment command to direct Klaus after the chip is installed.
  • Defend the Support Systems scan at Zarya Cosmodrome before taking the Aether Barrel.
  • Know the three pump locations—Blackwater Lake, Ashwood, and Vandorn Farm—before starting the timed charge.
  • Leave Vandorn Farm for the final pump, as advised by PC Gamer.
  • Do not use Jump Pads while carrying the barrel.
  • After the pumps, use the Jump Pad route to view and memorize the three rooftop symbols.
  • Return to the barn cellar and reproduce the symbols on the cube.
  • Destroy every green orb and spawned zombie in the basement trial.
  • Escape and return to Ol’ Tessie to complete the sequence.

Troubleshooting common failure points

The quest does not start after the Klaus fight

Check that Uber Klaus was defeated at Janus Towers Plaza and that the Stabilizer Chip was collected. The chip is the item used to activate Klaus in the Ashwood jail, so a missing pickup prevents the next interaction.

Klaus will not move

Install the Stabilizer Chip, hit Klaus with three Stun Grenades, and use the Tactical-equipment command. If one of those actions has not registered, the escort stage will not proceed. Watch for the objective prompt rather than relying only on Klaus’s animation.

The Aether Barrel loses its charge

The charge is explicitly timed. Reduce travel delays, keep Vandorn Farm as the final pump, and avoid Jump Pads while carrying the barrel because the barrel drops when you use them. A failed timer means the charging objective must be addressed again according to the current in-game prompt.

The cube symbols seem impossible to match

The intended sequence is to interact with the cube in the barn cellar, use the Jump Pad toward Janus Towers Plaza to view the three glowing rooftop symbols, memorize them, and return to the cellar. If you change symbols before recording all three, repeat the viewing trip and note their order and position carefully.

The Gauntlet appears but the quest does not finish

The appearance triggers the basement acquisition trial; it is not the final handoff. Destroy the green orbs and spawned zombies, escape, and return to Ol’ Tessie.

What the weapon does once acquired

The Gauntlet’s signature attack reshapes its dark liquid into spikes that shoot toward targets. The spikes can then be summoned back into the Gauntlet, dealing additional damage on their return. The official description also gives it the ability to pull items and Power-Ups from a distance, which can help retrieve useful drops without walking directly into a dangerous group.

Those mechanics explain why the quest is worth completing even when the solo route is demanding: the reward is a map-specific Wonder Weapon with both offensive reach and remote-item utility.

Could a later patch change the route?

Quest steps, round thresholds, and mechanics can change in later patches. The Round 8-or-later Uber Klaus timing, the three Stun Grenades, the pump order, the Jump Pad barrel warning, and the Veytharion assessment reflect the published guides and official description available for this version of the game. If a future update changes an objective prompt or location, follow the current in-game marker first.

For the current documented route, co-op is optional: solo players can complete the chain, but they must control every stage from Uber Klaus through the Ol’ Tessie return.
