Yes. Several Roku soundbars can play audio streamed over Bluetooth from a phone, tablet, or computer. Pair from the Roku device’s settings, then select the Roku device in your sending device’s Bluetooth list and start playback. Compatibility and setup can vary by model, so check the exact soundbar before troubleshooting.

Which Roku soundbars support Bluetooth audio?

Roku lists these devices as compatible with Bluetooth audio streaming from a phone, tablet, or laptop:

  • Roku Streambar SE
  • Roku Streambar
  • Roku Streambar Pro
  • Roku Smart Soundbar
  • onn. Roku Smart Soundbar

The Roku TV Wireless Soundbar is a separate product and also supports streaming music, podcasts, and other audio from a Bluetooth-enabled phone, tablet, or computer. See Roku’s overview of the Roku TV Wireless Soundbar.

How to pair a phone, tablet, or computer

  1. Set up the compatible Roku soundbar as required for its product. Roku says the device must be set up before Bluetooth streaming.
  2. On the Roku device, press Home, then go to Settings > Remotes & devices > Smartphones & tablets > Add a new smartphone or tablet.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone, tablet, or computer. In its list of discovered devices, select the Roku device.
  4. After it connects, start music, a podcast, or other audio on the sending device. Roku says, “The Bluetooth app on your Roku device will automatically launch once you start playing music, podcasts, or other audio.”
  5. If it does not reconnect later, open Bluetooth settings on the sending device and select the Roku device from its paired-device list. Roku says pairing information is saved, so you usually only need to pair once.

To stop playback, exit the Bluetooth app or disconnect the Roku device through the phone or computer’s Bluetooth settings. Roku’s full instructions are in How to turn on Bluetooth pairing and connect your phone to your Roku device.

What happens to TV sound while Bluetooth is playing?

When audio from a phone, tablet, or computer is streaming over Bluetooth, it takes priority over another active soundbar source. To return to TV or another connected-device audio source, stop or disconnect the Bluetooth playback, then use the soundbar’s available source controls. Roku explains source switching in its guide to switching audio sources on a Streambar or Smart Soundbar.

Bluetooth audio is not the same as Headphone Mode

Bluetooth streaming to a soundbar sends audio from a phone, tablet, or computer through the soundbar’s speakers. Roku Headphone Mode sends audio to headphones instead. They are separate features with different destinations, even though some Roku devices support both. Roku lists compatible devices and instructions in its Bluetooth Headphone Mode guide.

Bluetooth for phone audio versus connecting the soundbar to a TV

Bluetooth pairing is for playing audio from a mobile device or computer through the soundbar. For TV and connected-device sound, Roku’s setup guidance describes connecting a soundbar to the television with HDMI ARC, or using an optical connection when ARC is not used. Choose according to the ports available on both devices; see Roku’s soundbar setup instructions.
