No—not as a supported direct audio connection. PlayStation’s support materials say Bluetooth audio devices identified as incompatible cannot be used with PS5. If you want sound through speakers, use an HDMI-connected soundbar or AV system, or investigate whether your TV or a separate transmitter supports the Bluetooth-speaker setup you have in mind.
Why a Bluetooth speaker will not pair directly as PS5 audio
Sony’s PS5 FAQ says third-party wireless headsets that use Bluetooth are not supported, while most USB and analog headsets are supported. That statement is about headsets, not an individual test of every Bluetooth speaker model. Sony’s separate guidance for error CE-109531-9 says a Bluetooth audio device that triggers that error is not compatible with the console. Taken together, the official support information does not establish ordinary Bluetooth speakers as a supported direct PS5 audio route.
If you try to connect an audio device and receive CE-109531-9, consult Sony’s CE-109531-9 support page. The error is a compatibility indication, not a setting that makes the device usable by changing PS5 audio output options.

Choose a speaker setup that matches your equipment
| Setup | Connection path | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI soundbar or AV system | PS5 audio travels through an HDMI-connected display or audio system, depending on the equipment and wiring. | Confirm the audio system and TV/display support the inputs, outputs, and connection arrangement you plan to use. PS5 lets you select an output device and configure an HDMI device type; AV amplifier settings include channel and speaker-position options. |
| USB or analog audio device | USB or analog, rather than direct Bluetooth. | Sony says most USB and analog headsets are supported, but compatibility varies by device. That statement does not establish support for a USB or analog speaker in every configuration. |
| Bluetooth speaker paired to a TV/display | PS5 audio passes to the TV/display, which then connects to the speaker over Bluetooth. | Check the TV/display manual for Bluetooth audio output and the speaker manual for supported pairing. The official PS5 sources do not confirm that every TV-and-speaker combination works. |
| Bluetooth speaker with an intermediary transmitter | The PS5 audio signal reaches a separate transmitter through a supported connection, then the transmitter sends audio to the speaker over Bluetooth. | Check the manuals for both the transmitter and the equipment feeding it. Compatibility, setup, and audio delay depend on those specific devices; PS5 support material does not verify every transmitter chain. |
How to use an HDMI-connected soundbar or AV system
- Check the manuals for your PS5-connected TV/display and soundbar or AV system. Confirm which device accepts the PS5’s HDMI connection and how audio is routed to the speakers. Do this before buying an adapter or audio system.
- Connect the equipment using a supported HDMI arrangement. Depending on your hardware, the audio may be handled by the TV/display or by an HDMI audio system; the correct route is specific to your equipment.
- On PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the available output device. Sony’s audio settings guide explains the output-device and HDMI configuration options.
- If the console is connected to an AV amplifier, choose the HDMI device type and configure the channel and speaker-position settings to match that system.
- Play audio and confirm that sound comes from the intended speakers. If it does not, verify the TV/display and audio-system inputs, outputs, selected source, and PS5 output-device setting.
What to do if PS5 audio is not coming through HDMI
First check that the PS5 audio output is set to an HDMI device, then make sure the connected TV/display or audio system is on the correct input and that the connection matches its supported setup. Sony’s picture and sound troubleshooting guide includes HDMI audio-output checks. If you are trying to use Bluetooth, troubleshoot the TV, speaker, or transmitter pairing separately; changing PS5’s HDMI output setting does not turn direct Bluetooth pairing into a supported connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Before relying on a TV or transmitter for Bluetooth
- For a TV/display route, verify that the exact model can send audio to Bluetooth devices; Bluetooth pairing for controllers or other functions does not by itself establish Bluetooth audio output.
- For a transmitter route, verify that it accepts audio from the connection available on your PS5, TV, or audio system and supports the speaker’s connection requirements.
- Check the manuals for setup steps and limitations, including whether the TV or transmitter can send audio to the intended speaker while handling the PS5 connection.
- Do not assume there will be no audio delay. The reviewed PlayStation sources do not establish latency performance for third-party TV or transmitter arrangements.
Bottom line on direct Bluetooth pairing
PS5 support information does not establish Bluetooth speakers as a supported direct audio connection, and a device that triggers CE-109531-9 is identified as incompatible. For speaker output, an HDMI soundbar or AV system is the documented alternative. A Bluetooth speaker may be possible through a TV or separate transmitter, but confirm that exact equipment chain with its manufacturers rather than assuming it will work.
