Not through a documented universal setting. ATLUS’s official materials do not describe an in-game control that lets you pick a battle track or turn battle music off. The game does have platform-specific Costume & Battle BGM and Battle Jingle DLC, which adds alternate audio content, but the listings do not promise a free-form music selector. A Steam Community user also reports that equipping the protagonist with a Persona 5 outfit changes the jingle that plays after a battle. That report concerns the battle-end jingle, not necessarily the main battle theme, and it is not official or independently verified.

What you can and cannot change

Metaphor: ReFantazio is listed for Xbox, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam. Across the official game information and the Xbox Store listings, there is no documented global switch for choosing a different battle song or disabling battle music while leaving the rest of the soundtrack intact.

That is a narrower conclusion than saying a setting can never exist on any future build. It means ATLUS’s published game information and the patch information available for version 1.09 do not document such a control. Menus and downloadable entitlements can differ by platform, edition and region, so check your own version before assuming that another platform has identical options.

  • Choose a battle track: no general selector is documented.
  • Disable only battle music: no dedicated toggle is documented.
  • Add alternate music: official Costume & Battle BGM and Battle Jingle add-ons are listed for some editions and storefronts.
  • Change the post-battle sound: one Steam Community commenter reports an outfit-linked change when the protagonist wears a Persona 5 costume.

Battle music and battle jingle are different things

The wording matters because the game and its add-ons use both terms. “Battle BGM” refers to music associated with the battle sequence. “Battle Jingle” generally means a short musical cue at a battle transition, such as the sound heard when a fight ends. The Steam report specifically says the Persona 5 outfit changes the jingle after a battle. It does not establish that the outfit replaces the full combat track.

If your complaint is about a song that loops during combat, the reported outfit workaround may not address it. If the annoyance is the brief victory or battle-complete cue, the report is more directly relevant. Treat those as separate tests rather than expecting one costume to replace every piece of battle audio.

What the official DLC listings establish

The Xbox Store lists several add-ons described as Costume & Battle BGM Sets or Battle Jingle Sets. Some are grouped with uniform costumes; others are presented as separate downloadable content. Selected game editions include particular add-ons, while other editions require a separate entitlement. The listing is evidence that alternate audio content exists, not that the player receives an unrestricted playlist.

Content named in the listing What it supports What it does not establish
Costume & Battle BGM Set A costume bundle can include alternate battle-background-music content. It does not document a menu for selecting any individual song at will.
Battle Jingle Set Alternate battle-end or transition cues are sold as DLC. It does not prove that the main battle theme changes.
Uniform costume bundles Some costumes are packaged with related music content. It does not mean every costume changes battle audio.
Included-edition entitlements Higher or selected editions may include particular sets. It does not guarantee the same entitlement on another platform or in another region.

Before buying anything, read the exact product description for your platform. Confirm whether the item says Battle BGM, Battle Jingle, both, or only a costume. Also check whether it is already included with your edition. Store pages can show different bundles and entitlements by territory, and ownership of a costume does not by itself prove that a music set is included.

How to try the reported Persona 5 costume workaround

A Steam Community thread titled “How do I change battle music?” contains a reply from a player who says that equipping the protagonist with a Persona 5 outfit changes the jingle heard after a battle. The commenter also says they found no separate enable/disable option. This is a single user report, not an ATLUS instruction or a platform-wide test.

  1. Make sure the Persona 5 costume content is owned and installed on your copy of the game, if it is sold separately in your edition or region.
  2. Open the game’s character equipment or costume screen and select the protagonist.
  3. Equip the Persona 5 outfit, then complete a battle.
  4. Listen specifically to the short cue after combat ends. Compare it with the cue produced while the normal outfit is equipped.

Do not use this test to conclude that the combat loop has changed. The report names the post-battle jingle only. If the in-battle track remains the same, that is consistent with the limited claim being made.

Because the report is not verified, your result may differ with platform, language, edition, installed add-ons or game updates. If nothing changes, remove and re-equip the costume, confirm that the add-on is installed rather than merely purchased, and test a second battle. Those checks can distinguish an entitlement or equipment issue from a feature that simply is not present in your build.

How to check your own platform and edition

The game is sold on several platforms, but the Xbox listing is the clearest official example of the separate Costume/BGM/Jingle entitlements. Use the store attached to your account rather than relying on a bundle name seen in a video or forum post.

Xbox

  1. Open the Microsoft Store page for your installed edition of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
  2. Review the add-ons section and search the descriptions for “Costume,” “Battle BGM” and “Battle Jingle.”
  3. Open each item’s details to see whether it is included, owned, or sold separately.
  4. After installing an owned add-on, restart the game and check the costume or downloadable-content area.

The store listing may show several editions with different included items. An add-on appearing on the page does not mean that every edition grants it.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4

Use the PlayStation Store page associated with the console and region where you bought the game. Look for the same terms in each item’s description, then check the console’s game-content management screen to verify installation. Do not assume that an Xbox bundle name maps one-for-one to a PlayStation package; the official material confirms the platforms, but not identical catalog contents.

Steam and Windows

On Steam, open the game’s store page and the downloadable-content list for your account. A purchased item can still require a separate installation or activation step. Once installed, launch the game and look for the costume in the appropriate in-game equipment screen. The Steam Community report is useful for the outfit-linked jingle claim, but it is not a substitute for the DLC description or your account’s ownership status.

If your goal is silence rather than a different song

There is no documented battle-only mute switch in the materials cited above. First inspect the game’s Audio or Sound settings for a music-volume control. If your version offers only a general music slider, lowering it will affect other music as well; it should not be described as a battle-only solution. If there is no suitable in-game control, the remaining options are platform-level audio controls, headphones with a separate volume control, or muting the game while keeping other device audio active. Those approaches change what you hear, not the game’s underlying battle-music behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not confuse a dialogue, effects or master-volume setting with a battle-music selector. A master mute can suppress the entire game, while an effects slider may leave music untouched. Check the labels and test one battle after each change so you know which audio category was affected.

What version 1.09 does—and does not—tell us

ATLUS’s Patch Notes 1.09 mention a dash-effects toggle and other gameplay and presentation changes. They do not list a battle-music selector or a battle-music disable option. The notes also describe party-formation and configuration changes, but those are unrelated to audio control.

This supports a limited statement: the inspected 1.09 notes do not announce such a feature. It does not prove that every menu on every platform has been exhaustively checked, nor does it rule out a later undocumented change. If a future update adds a control, its exact label and scope should be confirmed in that version’s own notes or menu.

Common sources of confusion

Expecting DLC to behave like a playlist

“Battle BGM Set” sounds like a collection of tracks, but the official listing does not promise a track-by-track picker. It may associate music with a costume, a theme set or an edition entitlement. Buy it for the described content, not for an assumption that any song can be assigned to any battle.

Assuming every costume changes music

The community report singles out a Persona 5 outfit and a post-battle jingle. It does not say that all costumes alter audio. Test the exact costume named in the report and listen for the specific cue it mentions.

Using a soundtrack change as proof of a battle-theme change

Music heard during exploration, menus or victory transitions can change independently. Compare the same battle situation with and without the costume, and distinguish the looping combat track from the short end-of-battle sound.

Assuming a bundle is identical everywhere

Storefront region, platform and edition affect which add-ons are offered and which are included. Check the entitlement attached to your account instead of relying on another player’s package.

Buying a different edition will not solve the setting question by itself

ATLUS lists a physical base game in the Collector’s Edition, but the existence of a physical copy does not indicate a different audio menu. The relevant question is which digital Costume, Battle BGM or Battle Jingle entitlement accompanies the edition on your platform. A base-game purchase alone should not be treated as a way to unlock a music selector.

Practical decision guide

  • You want a different full battle song: check your platform’s official DLC descriptions for Battle BGM content; no unrestricted selector is documented.
  • You want a different victory cue: check Battle Jingle content and try the reported Persona 5 outfit if you own it.
  • You want battle music completely silent: look for an audio-volume control, but expect that a music slider may affect non-battle music too; no battle-only mute is documented.
  • You are deciding whether to buy a bundle: verify the exact included costume, BGM and jingle terms, edition and region before purchase.
  • You saw a forum claim: treat it as a player report unless an official store description or update note confirms the behavior.

Bottom line

Metaphor: ReFantazio does not have a publicly documented general setting for selecting or disabling battle music. Official DLC provides alternate Costume, Battle BGM and Battle Jingle content on supported storefronts, with availability tied to platform, edition and region. The only specific workaround reported by players is equipping the protagonist with a Persona 5 outfit to change the post-battle jingle; that claim is limited, unofficial and does not establish a replacement for the main combat theme.
