Short answer: As of 18 October 2026, Rockstar has not published a GTA 6-specific parental-control or granular content-filter menu. The game is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and carries an ESRB M for Mature 17+ rating for blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol. Parents should configure the child’s console account first, then inspect GTA 6’s own menus and Rockstar’s support documentation after launch for any newly documented controls.
What is confirmed about GTA 6 content controls
Rockstar’s published platform information confirms Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No GTA 6-specific parental-control screen or content-filter system has been published in the available Rockstar support material. That means there is currently no documented switch for selectively removing nudity, sexual content, violence, language, drugs, alcohol or mature humor.
The clearest published warning is the ESRB rating. ESRB lists GTA 6 as M for Mature 17+ with the following content descriptors:

The rating describes the product as a whole. A console age gate can prevent access to an M-rated game, but it does not turn that game into a child-suitable version by removing each descriptor independently. Until Rockstar documents a final settings menu, claims about hidden “censor” toggles should be treated as unverified.

Can you turn off nudity, sexual content or violence?
There is no confirmed GTA 6 setting that lets players disable nudity, sexual content, violence, strong language or references to drugs and alcohol. Rockstar has not published a GTA 6 content-filter list, and the available support information does not promise separate switches for those themes.
That distinction matters. Many games expose options for subtitles, gore effects, profanity, mature scenes or user-generated content, but the existence of such options in another title does not establish that GTA 6 will include them. Rockstar’s previous-game documentation says that GTAV settings can be changed from the Pause Menu in Story Mode or Online. That describes GTAV’s ordinary settings flow only; it is not evidence that GTA 6 will use the same menu or provide parental controls.
After GTA 6 is available, check its own Settings and, if applicable, Online menus. Also check Rockstar’s current support pages for a documented list of accessibility, communication, privacy or content options. Do not rely on an unofficial video or a menu screenshot whose game version and region cannot be verified.
PlayStation 5: where parents should configure access
On PlayStation 5, the relevant controls live at the console-account and family level rather than inside a GTA 6-specific menu. PlayStation’s official guidance places privacy controls at Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy. A family manager, parent or guardian can manage a child account’s privacy and family settings.
Block the game by age rating
Use the PlayStation family tools to set the child’s permitted game-rating level. If the child should not play GTA 6, set the allowed level below the ESRB M/17+ category. The exact labels shown can depend on the account’s country or region, so choose the restriction that excludes games rated M or the local equivalent.
This is an access decision, not a GTA 6 content filter. If the rating limit blocks the title, the child cannot launch it through the supervised account. If the limit allows it, the game’s mature themes remain part of the product.
Review privacy, communication and online access
PlayStation family and privacy tools can govern who may interact with a child and what account information is visible. Review friend requests, messaging, voice communication and multiplayer permissions using the options presented for the child account. The available PlayStation guidance does not publish GTA 6-specific communication switches, so configure these permissions at the platform level.

Because ESRB lists in-game purchases, review the child account’s spending limit and purchase-approval settings. A content restriction does not automatically prevent every purchase attempt, and an unrestricted adult account can bypass the safeguards intended for a child account.
Set playtime limits
PlayStation family tools also support playtime controls. Set the allowed days and hours before granting access, then check the activity reports available to the family manager. Playtime limits regulate when the account can use the console; they do not change scenes or dialogue inside GTA 6.

Xbox Series X|S: where parents should configure access
On Xbox, open Settings > Privacy and online safety, choose the relevant family member, and adjust Content restrictions. The ESRB’s Xbox guidance describes several controls that are useful for GTA 6.
Set an age level
Choose an age level based on ratings. To prevent access to GTA 6, select an age setting below the game’s M/17+ rating or the corresponding local classification. This blocks the title at the account or console layer rather than editing its content.

Xbox family settings can individually allow or block titles. That gives a parent a way to handle GTA 6 separately from the general age level, subject to the family account’s permissions and the console’s current software behavior.
Restrict voice and text communication
Use the privacy and online-safety controls to restrict voice and text communication. These settings are especially important if the child can access online features or interact with people outside the family’s approved list. They control account communications; they do not remove spoken language or dialogue authored inside the game.
Manage spending
Xbox family controls include spending management. Set a purchase limit or require approval before purchases, since the ESRB entry identifies in-game purchases. Check the funding sources on both the child account and any linked family account.

What the ESRB rating means for a household decision
The M for Mature 17+ rating is a strong signal that GTA 6 is not intended for children. The descriptors cover more than combat: they explicitly include nudity, strong sexual content, strong language, mature humor, drugs and alcohol, as well as blood, gore and intense violence. In-game purchases add a separate financial risk that parents should address even if the child is old enough to play.
Use the rating as a screening rule, not as a promise about how often a particular scene appears. The rating does not tell you whether a setting can reduce exposure, whether a scene is optional, or how online interactions are moderated. Those details require Rockstar’s final documentation and the game’s own launch-day menus.
If your household rule is “no M-rated games,” block GTA 6 at the platform level. If an older teenager may be allowed to play, decide separately whether the mature themes, online communication and purchase system fit your family’s rules. A platform age setting cannot selectively keep only the violence, only the sexual content or only the language out.

Set up the account before granting access
- Confirm the account type. Make sure the child uses a supervised family or child account, not an unrestricted adult account. Controls attached to the wrong account can appear to work while the child launches the game elsewhere.
- Choose the age-rating limit. Set the permitted level below M/17+ if the child should not access GTA 6. Check the local rating terminology if the account is outside the ESRB region.
- Review communication permissions. Decide whether voice chat, text chat, friend requests, multiplayer invitations and cross-network interactions are allowed. Apply the least permissive setting that matches the household rule.
- Set spending approval. Add a purchase limit or require an adult approval step. Remove saved payment methods from the child’s profile if they are not needed.
- Set playtime and activity rules. On PlayStation, configure playtime windows and review available activity information. On Xbox, check the family settings presented for the account and do not assume that a game restriction also limits console hours.
- Test the restriction. Sign in as the child account and verify that the game is blocked, the selected communication permissions are enforced and a purchase cannot complete without the required approval.
What to check when GTA 6 launches
Open the game’s Settings menu and inspect every section that could affect a child’s experience, including privacy, online play, communication, user-generated content, subtitles and accessibility. If an option specifically claims to reduce mature content, read its description carefully and test what it changes before treating it as a complete filter.
Then check Rockstar’s support pages for the exact game version and platform. Look for an official explanation of:
- whether nudity, sexual content, violence or language can be reduced or disabled;
- whether user-generated content can be hidden or limited;
- how voice and text chat work in online modes;
- what reporting, blocking and privacy tools are available;
- how in-game purchases are authorized; and
- whether settings differ between Story Mode and Online.
Record the game version and account used when testing. A setting documented for one platform, edition or mode may not apply to another.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming GTAV settings carry over
Rockstar’s statement about changing GTAV settings from the Pause Menu is historical guidance for GTAV. It does not confirm equivalent controls in GTA 6. Treat GTA 6 as a separate product until Rockstar documents otherwise.
Using an age gate as a scene filter
An age gate either permits or blocks access according to the platform’s rating rules. It does not remove individual mature themes from an allowed game.

Configuring the wrong account
Family settings apply to the supervised profile. If the child uses an adult profile, a guest profile or another console account, the restrictions may not apply. Check every profile that can launch the game.
Ignoring purchases because the game is blocked
In-game purchases matter when access is allowed, and saved payment methods can create risk outside the game itself. Keep purchase approval and spending limits enabled independently of content restrictions.
Trusting unverified “censor mode” claims
Do not promise a child that specific scenes can be removed until Rockstar publishes the option and its limits. Online claims may describe a different game, an unfinished build or a platform-specific setting.
Forgetting online permissions
Restricting the game’s age rating does not automatically define who can message, speak with or invite the child. Review communication and multiplayer permissions separately on the console account.
Bottom line for parents
There is currently no confirmed GTA 6 parental-control menu or granular censor system. The reliable controls are the family features built into PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: rating-based access, account privacy, communication permissions, spending limits and, where available, playtime tools. Because GTA 6 is rated M for Mature 17+ for multiple explicit themes and includes in-game purchases, configure those platform controls before access is granted, then verify any in-game options and Rockstar documentation after launch.
