Usually, no—at least for a Nintendo eShop pre-order. Nintendo says you can cancel before payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded, which occurs no sooner than seven days before release. Nintendo also says any bonus download code is not made available until that payment and pre-load step. Cancel before then and there is normally no code to keep. If payment has already been processed and a code appears in your receipt or purchase history, Nintendo’s published cancellation guidance does not promise that the code remains valid after cancellation.
Physical purchases follow different rules. Nintendo Store and third-party retailers attach bonus items to qualifying purchases, and Nintendo says physical bonus quantities are limited while stocks last. Whether you can cancel and retain an Ocarina of Time bonus therefore depends on the named retailer, your country, the order’s cancellation terms, and whether the promotion supplies a physical item or a code.
The short answer by storefront
The storefront matters more than the Zelda title. A digital Nintendo eShop order is governed by Nintendo’s pre-order payment and pre-loading schedule. A physical order is governed by the store that accepted the order and its promotion terms.

How the Nintendo eShop pre-order timing works
Payment and pre-loading happen close to release
Nintendo’s support guidance says an eShop pre-order may be canceled “any time before the payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded on your console,” with that point occurring up to seven days before the game’s release date. Payment is therefore not necessarily taken when you place the pre-order. The relevant deadline is the earlier event described by Nintendo: payment processing and pre-loading.

For the Switch 2 physical listing for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo identifies SKU 125697 and a November 5, 2026 release date. Applying Nintendo’s stated eShop timing, the payment and pre-load window can begin no sooner than seven days before that release. The exact processing moment can still depend on Nintendo’s account and regional handling, so check the status of your order rather than relying only on a calendar reminder.
The bonus code is not issued when you place the order
Nintendo’s wording is explicit: “Any bonus download codes will not be available until payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded on your console, no sooner than 7 days before the game’s release.” A newly placed eShop pre-order therefore should not be expected to include an immediately usable Ocarina of Time code.
This creates a straightforward result for an early cancellation. If you cancel while the order is still unpaid and not pre-loaded, Nintendo has not yet made the bonus code available. There is no issued code to retain, and the canceled order does not establish a published right to receive one later.

After a code appears, the answer becomes uncertain
If Nintendo has processed payment, pre-loaded the game, and displayed a code in your receipt or purchase history, the situation is different from an early cancellation. The cited Nintendo FAQ explains when the code becomes available, but it does not state that the code remains valid after a subsequent cancellation. Do not treat the appearance of a code as a guarantee that you can cancel the game and keep using the bonus.

Before canceling at this stage, save the receipt details and read the cancellation notice shown for your account. If the notice does not explain what happens to the code, Nintendo’s published guidance does not resolve the issue; contacting Nintendo Support before confirming the cancellation is the safest way to obtain an account-specific answer.
What to do if you want to cancel an eShop pre-order
- Identify the storefront. Confirm that the order is a Nintendo eShop digital pre-order, not a Nintendo Store physical order or a retailer order. The rules are different.
- Check the order status. Look for whether payment has been processed, the title has been pre-loaded, or a bonus code is visible in your receipt or purchase history.
- Cancel before the trigger if you need certainty. Nintendo permits cancellation before payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded. Once either stage has occurred, the simple pre-payment cancellation rule no longer answers what happens to the code.
- Record the confirmation. Keep the cancellation confirmation and the order number. This is particularly important if you later place the order again or ask Support about a code.
- Re-order only after checking the promotion. Nintendo says a canceled pre-order can be placed again before release, but it does not say that the canceled order’s bonus entitlement is preserved or transferred to the replacement order.
The safest digital strategy is therefore to decide before Nintendo reaches the payment and pre-load window. If you are canceling to move to another storefront, verify that the replacement promotion is still available before giving up the original order.
Physical Nintendo Store orders are a separate case
Do not apply the eShop deadline to a boxed game
Nintendo describes physical-product cancellations through separate order handling. The eShop rule about payment no sooner than seven days before release is not a universal deadline for a physical Nintendo Store order. Physical orders can have their own payment, dispatch, and cancellation terms, which must be read on the product page, order confirmation, or store FAQ for your region.
Physical bonuses may be items, not download codes
A physical promotion can include an item packed with the game or a code supplied by the store. That distinction matters. A code may be electronically delivered or printed on an insert, while a physical bonus is part of the order’s stock allocation. Nintendo Store’s FAQ states: “Quantities are limited, so bonus items are only available while stocks last.” A qualifying order is not automatically a permanent reservation of an unlimited bonus.

Cancellation does not have a published universal retention rule
The available Nintendo guidance does not say that a customer may cancel a physical order and keep an Ocarina of Time bonus. It also does not say that every canceled qualifying order automatically forfeits the item. The outcome depends on the promotion’s written conditions: whether the bonus is bundled, whether it ships separately, whether the store can reclaim it, and whether the order still qualifies after cancellation.
Before canceling, capture the product page’s bonus description, the qualification language, the stock disclaimer, and the cancellation terms. If the bonus is a separate line item on the order, ask the store specifically whether that item must be returned or whether the entire qualifying order is canceled together.
Buying from a third-party retailer or switching stores
“Switching retailers” normally means giving up the first retailer’s qualification
A pre-order bonus is generally attached to the purchase that met the retailer’s qualifying conditions. Nintendo’s general eShop FAQ does not create a transferable entitlement between unrelated stores. If you cancel Retailer A and place a new order at Retailer B, the new order must independently satisfy Retailer B’s promotion, including any regional, edition, timing, and stock requirements.
Do not assume that an order number, receipt, or code from the first retailer can be attached to the second retailer’s order. Ask both retailers in writing if you need a definitive answer, and retain the responses.

Check the retailer’s exact cancellation language
Look for these points before confirming a cancellation:
- Whether the bonus is guaranteed only for orders placed while stock lasts.
- Whether the promotion applies to every edition or only a named SKU.
- Whether the bonus ships with the game, ships separately, or arrives as a download code.
- Whether canceling the game cancels every promotional item on the order.
- Whether a replacement order receives a bonus only if stock remains at the time of the new order.
- Whether the retailer limits the offer by country, delivery address, or purchase date.
Save a screenshot or PDF of the promotion showing the date and your region. Retailer pages can change when stock is exhausted, while your order confirmation may contain the terms that applied when you purchased.

“I pre-ordered digitally and want to cancel months before release.”
If payment has not been processed and the game has not been pre-loaded, Nintendo’s stated rule allows cancellation. Because the bonus code is not available until that later trigger, there is normally no code to keep. Re-ordering later is possible before release, but bonus availability is not guaranteed by Nintendo’s published guidance.

That is no longer the simple pre-payment case. Nintendo confirms the code’s availability after payment and pre-loading, but does not promise that a later cancellation leaves the code valid. Treat the code as conditional until Nintendo or the applicable store confirms otherwise.

“I found a better physical deal at another retailer.”
Check the second retailer’s Ocarina promotion and stock first. Then read the first retailer’s cancellation terms and ask whether its bonus is canceled or must be returned. A new order at the second store does not automatically inherit the first store’s bonus.
Release-date checklist for the Ocarina of Time pre-order
For the Nintendo listing identified as SKU 125697, the stated release date is November 5, 2026. Use this checklist as that date approaches:
- Confirm whether your order is digital or physical and which country’s storefront accepted it.
- For an eShop order, check payment and pre-load status before the seven-day window begins.
- If canceling, do so before Nintendo processes payment and pre-loads the game if you want the clear pre-payment outcome.
- If a code is already visible, do not assume cancellation preserves it; obtain confirmation first.
- For a physical order, verify whether the Ocarina bonus is a code or an item and whether stock is limited.
- When changing retailers, confirm that the replacement order qualifies independently and that stock remains.
- Keep order confirmations, cancellation records, and the promotion’s written terms.
Bottom line
For Nintendo eShop, cancel before payment and pre-loading and there is normally no Ocarina of Time code to retain; canceling after a code appears is not covered by a promise that the code survives. For Nintendo Store and third-party physical orders, the answer is retailer- and region-specific, and bonus stock is limited. Read and save the applicable store’s written terms before canceling or switching.
