WhatsApp stickers may soon play audio when tapped, but sound stickers are not available to users yet. A report published October 13, 2026, says the feature is under development in WhatsApp for Android beta 2.26.41.3 and was not yet available even to beta testers. The report gives no release date, and it does not confirm an iOS version.
What are WhatsApp sound stickers?
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is developing stickers that look like standard stickers in a chat but have an audio track that plays when someone taps them. That would add sound to the sticker interaction; it is not evidence that users can currently attach audio to existing sticker packs. WABetaInfo’s October 13, 2026 report describes the feature as still in development.
The same report says the sticker and its audio would be protected by end-to-end encryption. This is WABetaInfo’s account of the proposed feature, not a separate announcement from Meta.

How might sound stickers work?
The reported playback controls include respect for the device’s silent mode and a volume icon that a recipient could tap to mute a sound sticker. WABetaInfo says that mute choice would carry over to other sound stickers until changed. These are pre-release details, so the final controls could differ.
#1 Best Overall
- Big Size Sign board in best Quality Vinyl. Strong Adhesive at the Backside. Clean the surface thoroughly before use.
- Ideal for surfaces like Metal, Plastic and smoothly oil painted wood. NOT suitable for whitewashed walls or rough wooden surface.
- Once this vinyl is taken out from one surface then its adhesive may not be strong enough for a second place. Peel and use simple plastic card, like credit card to apply it from one corner to another. This removes air pockets and gives a neat finish.
- Size: 9 x 3 in . Quantity:4 stickers (1 Facebook,1 Instagram, 1 Whatsapp) | Long life Vinyl surface. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Weather resistant.
- Please Note: These stickers can be customised. Please use a Sketch Pen/Marker Pen to fill your company/ handle name.
How might you create a sound sticker?
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is also working on a creation flow that combines a sticker with an audio clip. The report suggests a video might be converted into an animated sticker as part of that process. It does not show a feature readers can try, nor does it establish that sound can be added to existing sticker packs.
WhatsApp already documents making stickers from photos and creating, editing, and sharing sticker packs in its Help Center. Meta also announced text stickers and the ability to add newly created stickers directly to sticker packs on January 7, 2026. Those existing tools and capabilities are separate from the reported sound-sticker work; neither confirms that audio can currently be added to a pack. Meta’s announcement covers the text-sticker update.

How sound stickers differ from existing stickers
| Type | Interaction | Availability and creation |
|---|---|---|
| Existing photo and text stickers | Display as stickers in chats; the cited current tools do not establish tap-to-play audio. | WhatsApp documents sticker creation and pack management; Meta announced text stickers and adding new stickers to packs in January 2026. Help Center and Meta announcement. |
| Reported sound stickers | Would play an audio track when tapped, while the sticker remains visible in the chat. | Under development in the Android beta report; not yet available to beta testers. A sticker-plus-audio creation flow is proposed, not released. WABetaInfo report. |
WhatsApp also provides sample apps and an API for third-party sticker packs, subject to legal and service requirements. That developer support does not establish that third-party apps can already create or distribute sound stickers.

No release date had been announced in WABetaInfo’s October 13, 2026 report. It says the feature was not yet available for beta testing, despite its discovery in Android beta 2.26.41.3. The report does not confirm availability on iOS. Installing or updating to that beta build should not be treated as a way to access sound stickers.
