Yes—with the right configuration. Lenovo offers the ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 Intel with integrated graphics or optional RTX PRO 500 and RTX PRO 1000 discrete GPUs, plus memory options up to 96GB. That makes the family a credible choice for professional CAD and many AI-assisted workflows, but it does not make every configuration equally suited to demanding 3D work or local AI. Choose by the software, project size, and exact GPU and memory in the system you plan to buy.
What varies across ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 configurations?
The P16s Gen 4 Intel is a configurable workstation family, not a single fixed specification. Lenovo lists Intel Core Ultra 5, Ultra 7, and Ultra 9 Series 2 processor options, integrated graphics, and optional NVIDIA RTX PRO Blackwell discrete graphics. Memory, display, and storage also vary by configuration. The specifications below are options or maximums, not guarantees about any particular retail SKU. Lenovo’s US product page and its PSREF specifications are the places to verify a specific configuration.

Lenovo’s March 2026 datasheet describes the machine as using Intel Core Ultra Series 2 H-series processors and lists the NPU, memory, storage, and graphics options. TOPS measures a stated peak AI compute capability; it is not a stand-in for application speed, rendering time, or how large a model will fit in memory.
Can it run AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, or other CAD software?
Lenovo says the P16s Gen 4 is ISV-certified and names ANSYS, SOLIDWORKS, and AutoCAD as examples of professional applications. That supports considering it for professional CAD and related work, but certification and performance should be checked for the exact software version and system configuration. Lenovo’s PSREF directs users to its workstation ISV certifications list.

For 2D drafting and lighter CAD
Integrated graphics may be adequate for light 2D work, depending on the application and its vendor’s requirements. A discrete GPU is not automatically necessary for every CAD user. Confirm the software’s supported hardware and consider the size and complexity of the drawings you handle.
For 3D models, assemblies, and rendering
The RTX PRO 500 and RTX PRO 1000 are the configurations to consider when GPU acceleration matters. The available evidence does not establish that either is universally sufficient for every assembly, renderer, or workload. Compare the exact GPU, its 6GB or 8GB of graphics memory, system memory, processor, and your project demands rather than relying on the workstation label alone.

A TechRadar review published August 31, 2026 describes the RTX PRO 500 as adequate for many 3D renderings and mobile work, while cautioning that it is not a high-power choice for heavy rendering or video editing. This is the reviewer’s qualitative assessment, not a controlled benchmark or a guarantee for a particular project. The available sources do not provide a reproducible CAD benchmark tied to a specified P16s Gen 4 Intel SKU.

Is it suitable for AI workloads?
It depends on what “AI” means in your workflow. Lenovo positions the family as AI-ready and publishes peak NPU and GPU figures. The NPU may serve supported on-device features; a discrete RTX PRO GPU is more relevant when an application uses GPU acceleration. Cloud-based AI services, local inference, model development, and AI features inside professional software have different hardware requirements.

TechRadar reports a positive qualitative experience using multiple AI business workflows on its review system. That does not establish throughput, supported model sizes, or performance for every configuration. The available sources do not test specific local models, frameworks, or memory requirements, so select hardware against the requirements of the exact application or model rather than using TOPS alone.

- Identify the workload. Separate light 2D CAD or cloud-based AI use from 3D assemblies, GPU rendering, local inference, or development.
- Check application requirements. Confirm supported GPUs, memory, and ISV certification for the software version you use; do not assume every configuration has identical certification or performance.
- Choose graphics for the work. Integrated graphics can suit lighter tasks where the application permits it. Consider the RTX PRO 500 or RTX PRO 1000 when GPU acceleration is important, then match graphics memory and capability to the project.
- Set memory and storage needs. Confirm whether the model uses CSoDIMM or SODIMM memory and how much is installed. Treat 96GB and 2TB as family maximums, not standard inclusions.
- Verify the full SKU. Check processor, GPU, memory, display, and ports on the seller’s listing before ordering; similarly named P16s Gen 4 systems may differ materially.
For a desk setup, Lenovo lists Thunderbolt 4 USB-C and HDMI, and support for up to four independent displays including the internal panel. A dock can simplify connecting monitors and peripherals, but check Lenovo’s compatibility information for the exact configuration before choosing one. The PSREF lists the relevant connectivity details.
