Apple’s new products could give its growth story a lift, but they had not yet shown they could justify the stock’s premium valuation. As of Bloomberg’s October 13, 2026 report, Apple had announced its first foldable iPhone, while a separately scheduled smart-home event was still ahead. The key question was whether those launches could turn strong recent results into durable growth—not simply generate attention.

Why investors are asking whether Apple needs a hit

Apple shares were up 25% in 2026 as of Bloomberg’s October 13 report, but had been largely flat for several months after reaching a record in late July. Bloomberg put the stock at more than 35 times estimated earnings for the next 12 months, near its highest valuation level since 2007. That was substantially above both Apple’s own 10-year average and the broad-market comparison Bloomberg cited.

Valuation measure Figure reported by Bloomberg, October 13, 2026
Apple forward earnings multiple More than 35 times estimated next-12-month earnings
Apple 10-year average 24 times
S&P 500 multiple 19 times

These are dated figures from Bloomberg, not live market data. A premium valuation can leave less room for disappointment: investors may expect faster growth than a mature company can deliver, so a new product needs to matter financially, not just attract attention.

Recent results are strong; forecasts point to slower growth

Apple’s latest cited quarter was fiscal Q3 2026, which ended June 27. The company reported $109.4 billion in revenue, up 16% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $2.02, up 29%. CEO Tim Cook called it Apple’s “strongest June quarter ever” and said revenue grew by double digits across iPhone, Mac, Services, and every geographic segment.

That performance contrasts with the deceleration analysts expected after fiscal 2026. Bloomberg reported estimates of 15% annual revenue growth for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026, followed by 10% in fiscal 2027 and 7.8% in fiscal 2028. Those are analyst projections reported by Bloomberg, not Apple guidance in the cited materials.

The confirmed launch: Apple’s first foldable iPhone

Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. It is the company’s first foldable iPhone, with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,999 and storage capacities of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Pre-orders were scheduled to begin Friday, October 16, with availability starting Friday, October 23. These are Apple’s announced specifications and dates, not independent test results or evidence of customer demand.

Apple also announced two accessories: the iPhone Duo Case, priced at $79 in the United States, and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, priced at $129. Both were scheduled to be available to order October 16. Apple describes the case as a two-part protective case compatible with MagSafe and Qi2 charging.

The price makes the commercial test unusually clear: buyers must see enough value in the foldable design and its software experience to accept a $1,999 starting point. CEO John Ternus described Duo as “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original,” but the launch announcement alone cannot establish whether the product will broaden demand or materially affect revenue.

Smart-home products were still reports, not confirmed launches

At the October 13 research cut-off, Apple’s scheduled smart-home event had not yet taken place. Reuters reported on September 30, citing Bloomberg, that Apple planned a home hub code-named J490, an updated HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV set-top box. Reuters said Apple had not immediately responded to a request for comment. Bloomberg’s October 13 report also referred to an Apple doorbell and thermostat.

Those accounts described reported plans, not confirmed announcements. The cited Apple materials did not establish prices, specifications, availability, compatibility details, or expected sales for these devices. As a result, the smart-home push was a possible source of future growth, not yet a measurable product contribution.

The risks behind the growth thesis

Bloomberg reported that Apple had cut component orders for some iPhone models after demand came in weaker than expected, citing a Bloomberg Intelligence report. It also reported that costs for components such as memory chips had contributed to price increases. These are Bloomberg’s reported claims, not statements established by Apple’s cited earnings or product announcements.

Peter Andersen, chief investment officer of Andersen Capital Management, questioned whether the launches could create the growth inflection investors want. “For a company of this size, you need super-hit products to move the needle on growth,” he told Bloomberg, adding that he was unsure the incoming products were exciting enough to do so. Andersen also cited established competitors and pressure on consumers. That is one investor’s judgment, not a consensus conclusion or proof that the products will fail.

What would show whether the push is working?

The evidence needed to judge the thesis arrives in stages. The foldable iPhone’s announced preorder and availability dates create an initial demand test, but no sales outcome was known at the cut-off. For the smart-home category, the first step is confirmation of which reported devices, if any, Apple actually announces and what they cost and do. Longer term, investors will need to see whether new products support revenue growth beyond the analyst estimates Bloomberg reported, while accounting for component costs and the high valuation already reflected in the shares.

  • Product confirmation: distinguish official specifications and launch dates from media reports about planned devices.
  • Demand: look for evidence that the high-priced foldable attracts buyers, rather than assuming interest from the announcement.
  • Growth: compare future reported results with the analyst estimates Bloomberg cited, keeping estimates separate from Apple guidance.
  • Valuation: assess whether growth justifies a multiple above Apple’s historical average and Bloomberg’s S&P 500 comparison.

On the information available before the October 13 event, the products offered a plausible catalyst, not proof of a turnaround. Apple entered the test with robust quarterly results, but a premium stock price and forecasts of slower growth mean that successful execution and actual demand matter more than the number of devices announced.
