Yes, a Minecraft update can change Marketplace content you have downloaded, but an update and a loss of subscription access are different events. Minecraft’s clearest published explanation, a Marketplace Q&A from April 2017, said most store content could update automatically. It specifically said updated texture packs could affect existing worlds, while changes to world templates applied only when creating a new world from the template.
Marketplace Pass and Realms Plus add a separate entitlement rule: you can use catalog content only while the subscription is active and the item remains listed. If a Pass item leaves the catalog, Minecraft says you may need to buy it separately to keep using it. For individually purchased items later removed from Marketplace listings, current official pages do not provide an equally explicit re-download or continued-access guarantee.

When a pack, skin, world or add-on seems to disappear, first identify which event occurred. The remedy depends on whether the game changed the files, a subscription entitlement ended, or your account or device is preventing access.

These categories matter because an update does not automatically mean Minecraft revoked something you own, and a catalog departure is not the same as a change to an already-created world.

What Minecraft has said about updates to downloaded content
Texture packs can update in existing worlds
Minecraft’s official Marketplace Q&A, published April 28, 2017, answered a question about a texture pack that had already been downloaded. It said most store content was expected to update automatically and that an updated texture pack would also update the textures in worlds where it was already being used.
That is historical guidance rather than a current universal promise for every content type, platform or update. The article does not establish that every texture pack must update automatically today, nor does it say that every update changes gameplay. It does establish why an existing world can look different after the pack’s creator publishes a new version: the world may still be the same save, while the resources displayed by the pack have changed.

The same Q&A drew a clear line around world templates. Its wording was: “With world templates, however, the changes will only affect future worlds you create using that template – it will not update worlds you have already created.” In practical terms, an update to a template’s starting content should be visible when you use that template again, not retroactively rebuild a world you already generated.
This distinction is important for maps, adventure worlds and other template-based content. A previously created world can continue with the structure and resources it had when it was generated, subject to any separate behavior of packs or add-ons attached to that world. The 2017 article does not guarantee that all modern Marketplace products follow exactly the same implementation.

There is no blanket statement that updates erase worlds
The official pages reviewed do not say that a normal Minecraft update removes every Marketplace item or deletes worlds that use one. They also do not promise that an update can never alter a creator’s files. Treat the two claims separately: content may be revised, while the save itself remains; a template may change for future creations, while an existing template-created world is not updated by that template change.
Marketplace Pass and Realms Plus: catalog access is not ownership
Subscription content follows a different rule from an item bought with Minecoins. The current Marketplace Pass terms say access requires an active subscription and the item remaining in the Pass catalog. Minecraft’s January 2026 catalog article explains why this matters: “Since the catalog is always refreshing, some pieces will be moving out.”

If a world, texture pack, skin pack, mash-up or add-on leaves the catalog, the subscription no longer supplies the entitlement for that item. Minecraft says players may need to purchase it from the Marketplace to continue using it. The January 2026 article gives the same practical direction for an add-on already used in a world: reactivate it through an eligible subscription or buy it separately if the subscription ends or the add-on leaves the catalog.
Redeemed monthly Character Creator items are treated differently under the current Pass FAQ. Once redeemed, those items are yours to keep, rather than temporary catalog access. Do not apply that rule to every other Pass item; the terms distinguish redeemed Character Creator rewards from catalog content.

Catalog turnover is therefore an entitlement issue, not proof that a game update changed your files. Check the in-game catalog notice before assuming a pack was altered by a patch.
What is known about individually purchased items that disappear
Minecraft’s current Help page, View Your Minecraft Marketplace Content, directs Bedrock players to Marketplace > My Library. Purchased material should appear in the Owned section; subscription material appears under the relevant Pass area. The page supports finding and downloading content, but the official material reviewed here does not expressly guarantee that every separately purchased item will remain downloadable forever if its Marketplace listing is later removed.

That is an unresolved policy detail, not a finding that Minecraft revokes purchases. A delisted item may remain available in your library, but you should not turn the subscription rule or the 2017 statement about retaining older content into a present-day guarantee for all purchases. If access matters, keep the purchase receipt, note the gamertag used and record the item’s exact name and creator before contacting support.

- Confirm the account. Sign in with the Microsoft account and gamertag that obtained the item. A different account can make a legitimate purchase appear missing.
- Open the library. In Bedrock Edition, go to Marketplace > My Library.
- Check the correct section. Look under Owned for purchases and under Marketplace Pass for subscription content. If you used Realms Plus, check the subscription-linked catalog area shown in your client.
- Download or apply the item. Choose Download for an asset, Create this World for a world template, or Equip for a skin or pack, depending on the item type.
- Verify the subscription. If the item is in the Pass section, confirm that the subscription is active and that the catalog still lists the item. Minecraft says the in-game counter gives notice before content moves out.
- Test on a copy of the world. If a texture pack or add-on changed after an update, duplicate the world before experimenting with pack order, activation or removal. This protects the original save from an avoidable configuration mistake.
Diagnosing a missing or changed pack
The item is visible but looks different
This is consistent with a content update, especially for a texture pack. Compare the pack’s current description or version information in Marketplace, then check whether the world is still using that pack. A changed texture does not by itself show that the world was replaced.
The item is locked or asks you to buy it
Check whether it came from Marketplace Pass or Realms Plus. If the subscription expired or the item left the catalog, the current terms explain the purchase prompt. Rejoining the subscription may restore catalog access only if the item is still included; otherwise a separate purchase may be required.
The item is absent from My Library
Check the purchasing gamertag first, then confirm that the client has synchronized the account and that the item is compatible with the device and edition you are using. Minecraft’s Marketplace FAQ discusses compatibility and missing-content questions, including “Why is some content in the Marketplace grayed out? Why can’t I see some Marketplace content?” The FAQ carries a warning that portions may be out of date, so do not treat its old platform list or memory figures as current specifications.
The world will not load an add-on
First establish whether the add-on is subscription content or owned content. For a Pass add-on, verify both the active subscription and catalog listing. For a purchased add-on, verify the owning account and library entry. If the world itself is affected, the FAQ directs players to the creator community for world-specific help; preserve a backup or duplicate before changing active packs.

Refunds, support and records to keep
Minecoin purchases are generally final according to the Marketplace FAQ, while a mistaken world purchase may be refundable depending on the circumstances. Unauthorized-purchase issues are directed to the store where the purchase occurred. Because the FAQ says some instructions are being revised, verify the current support route in the client or on Minecraft’s support site before submitting a request.
Include the gamertag, Microsoft account, platform and edition, item name, creator, purchase date, order receipt, world name and screenshots of the library or error. Explain whether the item was bought, obtained through Pass, or redeemed as a Character Creator item. That classification lets support address an entitlement problem instead of treating it as a generic download failure.
What to remember before updating
- Back up important worlds before installing a major game update or changing active packs.
- Do not confuse a visual or resource-pack change with deletion of the save.
- World-template updates described by Mojang affect future worlds made from that template, not worlds already created from it.
- Track subscription end dates and catalog notices if a world depends on Pass or Realms Plus content.
- Keep purchase receipts and use the same gamertag when moving between devices.
Minecraft’s published rules support a careful answer rather than a universal one: updates can change downloaded Marketplace resources, subscription catalogs can remove access, and individually purchased items have no explicit current post-delisting guarantee in the reviewed documentation. Checking the library, account and entitlement status tells you which of those cases you are facing.
