Yes—Kia may help police locate a stolen vehicle through Kia Connect Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR), but only if the vehicle and subscription qualify. It is not a map feature that lets an owner track down a stolen car independently: you must first report the theft to police, then open an SVR case with Kia. Kia says it will attempt to locate the vehicle, but does not guarantee recovery.
This guide covers Kia America’s U.S. service information, checked October 7, 2026. Availability, package names, contact details, and processes may differ outside the United States.
What to do if your Kia is stolen
- Report the theft to local police. File a stolen-vehicle report promptly and get the official report or report number. Kia requires a police report to initiate SVR.
- Contact Kia Connect. Use the Stolen Vehicle page in the Kia Access app or the Kia Owner’s Portal. Kia America currently lists its Call Center at (844) 886-9411, seven days a week, 5:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Confirm the current number and hours in Kia’s channels before relying on them.
- Give Kia the report details. Kia says an agent verifies the report with law enforcement and checks eligibility before enabling recovery mode. Provide any additional information Kia requests.
- Let police handle locating and recovery. Kia’s terms say it provides location information to law enforcement. Do not approach the vehicle or a suspected thief yourself.
- Contact your insurer about its claim process. Requirements and deadlines depend on your insurer and circumstances; Kia’s owner materials do not specify a universal process.
How Kia Stolen Vehicle Recovery works
SVR is a case-based, police-coordinated service—not simply the Find My Car map in the app. After the owner reports the theft and gives Kia the police report details, Kia checks service eligibility and verifies the report with law enforcement. If the prerequisites are met, Kia can enable recovery mode and work with the agency using Kia Connect technology and trained agents.
Kia lists capabilities that can include vehicle tracking, horn and lights, lock or unlock, and immobilization or mobilization. These functions are not necessarily available for every vehicle or incident. Kia’s terms condition immobilization on the vehicle having that capability and law enforcement requesting it as part of recovery.

During law-enforcement recovery efforts, some app and portal location and remote functions—including Find My Car—are disabled. Kia says they are restored if the vehicle is recovered. If it is not recovered, the subscription may be cancelled when the case closes.
How long Kia says it will try
Kia’s terms say it will attempt recovery for up to 15 days from when the owner first reports the theft to Kia, unless the vehicle is recovered or police or the owner reports recovery sooner. This describes Kia’s stated process; it is not a promise that every case will receive a full 15-day search or that the vehicle will be found.

Does every Kia have Stolen Vehicle Recovery?
No. Kia distinguishes between a vehicle having the underlying technology and being eligible to start the service. Kia America says all Kia Connect-equipped vehicles have SVR technology, but only vehicles enrolled in a qualifying Kia Connect package can initiate SVR services. Its U.S. page identifies the Kia Connect Ultimate package and says eligible owners in a complimentary trial period may also have access.

Eligibility depends on the specific vehicle’s embedded modem capability and applicable package. Check Kia’s current vehicle availability and package comparison information, or confirm availability through your Kia account. Package names and feature availability can change.

Kia says a person traveling abroad can report a vehicle stolen if the Kia has Kia Connect and a qualifying package, but an official police report is still required. Do not assume that service capabilities, law-enforcement procedures, fees, or terms outside the U.S. match the U.S. service description.
Find My Car, SVR, and immobilization are different

Why Kia cannot guarantee it will locate the car
SVR depends on several systems working together, including vehicle connectivity and network providers. Kia says these dependencies can prevent it from locating a vehicle, and its terms do not guarantee recovery. A stolen vehicle may not be reachable through the service even if it is technically equipped for SVR.

The scale of U.S. vehicle theft is not a measure of Kia’s recovery performance: NHTSA’s current Vehicle Theft Prevention page states that a motor vehicle was stolen every 48 seconds in the United States in 2025. That figure is national, not Kia-specific.
What if your Kia is not eligible for SVR?
A separate vehicle tracker is one option to consider. NHTSA describes vehicle recovery systems as electronic-transmission devices that can help law enforcement locate stolen vehicles. Before choosing one, check its technology and coverage area, any subscription or service fees, installation requirements, power or battery arrangement, and compatibility with your vehicle. No particular model or improvement in recovery odds is established here.

A steering-wheel lock serves a different purpose: it is a visible theft deterrent, not a tracking or recovery device. NHTSA and the UK’s Police.uk discuss visible locks as deterrents; the latter’s advice is UK-specific and should not be treated as U.S. law or Kia guidance. Check fit and any applicable security rating before buying.
