JustUser is a native C++17 command-line utility that checks whether usernames appear to exist across more than 45 online platforms. Its author, Boran Tunç, reports a compiled binary of about 473 KB and says platform definitions can be extended through a sites.json file. Those are project-specific claims, not a reproducible size or coverage guarantee for every build.
What the project is—and what “lightweight” means here
In his DEV Community article, Boran Tunç describes JustUser as a C++17 command-line tool that uses libcurl to query 45+ platforms. He reports that the compiled binary is approximately 473 KB, or under 500 KB. The article does not state the operating system, processor architecture, compiler version, build flags, linking choices, or whether the executable is stripped or packaged. The figure therefore describes the author’s build, not a size readers should expect to reproduce on another system. Read the JustUser article.
A small executable is one dimension of a lightweight tool. The available description does not establish runtime memory use, query speed, dependency count, or the size of a complete installation. Nor does the reported platform count reveal how reliable each individual platform check is.
How a multi-platform username check works
A checker sends a request to a platform-specific URL or endpoint and interprets the response. Implementations may infer a result from an HTTP status code, text in the response, or a redirect destination. These strategies are not interchangeable: each site’s behavior determines what a response means, and changes to a page or endpoint can make an old rule inaccurate.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
GitHub’s official REST API documentation illustrates a clearer case: its Get a user endpoint takes a username in the path and documents 200 OK and 404 Not Found responses. That describes the documented endpoint, not a universal convention for websites. GitHub’s Get a user endpoint documentation.
A separate username-checker repository documents status-code checks, response-message comparisons, and redirect-URL checks as detection approaches. It is useful as an example of how methods can vary, but it is not documentation for JustUser. See the separate repository’s documentation.

What a result can—and cannot—tell you
A positive or negative result is evidence about the response observed from one platform at the time of the check. It does not prove that a username can be registered, reserved, or claimed. A name may be unavailable for reasons the checker cannot observe, and a failed request or changed response can be mistaken for an account result if the implementation does not distinguish errors from ordinary responses.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Interpret results per platform. The same response code or page text can mean different things on different services.
- Separate “not found” from “check failed.” Network errors, rate limits, blocks, and unexpected responses should not be presented as confirmed availability.
- Verify important names on the platform itself. Only that service can confirm current registration or reservation conditions.
Extending the checks with sites.json
The JustUser article says users can extend platform definitions through a sites.json configuration file. That approach can make adding or revising site checks easier than changing compiled code for every definition. The available description does not specify the file’s schema, supported response rules, or validation behavior, so do not assume a particular field format or that every platform can be added without code changes.

For any site definition, the important design question is how the tool distinguishes an account that exists from an account that does not—and how it reports ambiguous or failed requests. Platform-specific rules need maintenance as endpoints and response behavior evolve.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should find this project useful?
JustUser is relevant to developers interested in a compact native CLI, C++17 networking, or configurable multi-site checks. The reported 473 KB figure makes the project notable as an author-described build, but it is not enough by itself to compare footprint or performance with other tools. For users checking a username for an important account, treat a checker as a time-saving discovery aid, then confirm availability directly with the service.
