YXSTABY is a nine-piece IKEA and Xbox furniture collection built around recognizable controller details and everyday uses: seating, mobile stands, storage and display. Its understated, home-furniture look makes “stealth gaming” a fair description, but the pieces do not disappear into a room. The hands-on impressions below come from Tom’s Guide editor Jason England, who sat on the collection at Gamescom; they are his observations, not a long-term comfort test.
What is in the IKEA x Xbox YXSTABY collection?
Xbox describes YXSTABY as a nine-piece range co-developed by IKEA and Xbox design teams. It launched in IKEA stores on October 1, 2026, with online availability expected later that year; Xbox cautions that availability varies by market. The collection combines pieces for different postures and room setups rather than treating every item as a gaming chair.
- Gaming lounge chair
- Gaming thumbstick stool
- Gaming TV stand on castors
- Gaming side table on castors
- Gaming monitor stand
- Gaming laptop support with storage
- Gaming controller display box
- Gaming D-pad cushion
- Gaming D-pad controller platter
Xbox says the D-pad inspired both a cushion and a stainless-steel decorative platter. The mirrored display box is designed to show a controller from every side, as well as figurines and other collectibles. For the stool, Xbox device designers supplied original 3D design files for the Xbox Wireless Controller; Xbox says the resulting textured grip has a stabilizing purpose.
What did the furniture feel like to sit on?
Jason England’s Tom’s Guide hands-on report from Gamescom, published August 27, 2026, describes two distinct approaches to seating. He says the thumbstick stool’s curved base lets it tilt in different directions, while the lounge chair’s cantilevered frame flexes. He also reports that the chair has a pocket under the seat and a removable, machine-washable cover.

Those details make the collection more than Xbox-shaped decoration, but they do not establish how either seat will feel after a long session or suit every body type. The evidence here is one writer’s hands-on impression, not standardized ergonomic testing. The designers’ stated goal was to make a lounge chair that fits a home or living room while addressing gaming comfort and ergonomics; that is design intent, not proof of an ergonomic outcome.
Which pieces suit different rooms and play styles?
| Piece | Best fit | Room and visual trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Lounge chair | Lounging at a screen; the hands-on report describes a flexing cantilever frame and an under-seat pocket. | A dedicated seat is more visible than a small accessory, though it is designed as home furniture rather than a conventional gaming chair. |
| Thumbstick stool | Active sitting or a movable seat; the hands-on report describes a curved, tilting base. | Its controller-inspired shape is the most overt gaming reference among the seats. |
| TV stand and side table on castors | Setups that benefit from repositioning the screen or a nearby surface. | Castors support room flexibility; the design is not a fixed installation. |
| Monitor stand | A screen setup that can stay in one place. | Unlike the TV stand and side table, the listed product name does not indicate castors. |
| Laptop support with storage | Laptop play where keeping accessories nearby matters. | Combines a support surface with storage rather than adding a separate display feature. |
| Controller display box | Showing a controller, figurines or collectibles. | The mirrored design puts objects on view instead of concealing them. |
| D-pad cushion and platter | Adding Xbox design cues without buying another stand or seat. | Smaller accents are easier to place in an existing living space, but are decorative rather than furniture for a screen setup. |
Xbox Head of Design, Xbox Devices Carl Ledbetter described the aim this way: “By translating elements like the D-pad and thumbstick into functional furniture, we created pieces that celebrate Xbox design while feeling completely at home in everyday living spaces.” That explains the collection’s balance: recognizable Xbox forms, paired with functions that have a place beyond a gaming session.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is YXSTABY a stealth gaming upgrade?
It is a plausible option if you want gaming functions without making a conventional gaming setup the room’s dominant visual feature. Mobile surfaces, a storage-equipped laptop support, a seat with a reported under-seat pocket and display-oriented accessories give the range practical variety. At the same time, the controller-inspired stool, D-pad details and mirrored display box make the Xbox identity visible rather than hidden. The strongest case is for someone who wants gaming furniture that can share space with everyday living-room furniture—not for someone seeking an invisible setup or proven all-day ergonomic seating.
