Probably, but there is no universal guarantee. A Galaxy A04s may continue running a banking app after Samsung stops sending firmware updates, provided the bank still supports the phone’s Android version and security checks. However, Samsung’s records show that updates have not ended for every A04s variant: the SM-A047M update history includes Android 14 released on September 14, 2026, with the August 5, 2026 security patch, and Samsung currently places the Galaxy A04s in its quarterly security-update category.
The practical answer depends on three things: your exact A04s model and patch level, your bank’s current Android minimum, and whether the bank requires an unmodified device or a recent security status. Check all three before relying on the phone for essential banking.
What Samsung’s update records say about the Galaxy A04s
“The Galaxy A04s has reached the end of updates” is not accurate for every handset. Samsung’s official record for model SM-A047M shows an Android 14 update released on September 14, 2026, carrying the August 5, 2026 Android security patch. Samsung’s current security-support scope also lists the Galaxy A04s among models scheduled for quarterly security updates.
Those records are specific to a model variant and do not prove that every A04s received the same build. Samsung states that firmware availability and timing can differ by model, country, carrier, and service version. A phone sold under another SM-A047 variant may have a different latest build or rollout schedule, so do not use the SM-A047M date as a guaranteed end date for your device.

Check your exact software state
- Open Settings > About phone and note the model number. Galaxy A04s variants normally begin with
SM-A047, followed by a regional suffix. - Open Settings > About phone > Software information. Record the Android version and Android security patch level. Menu names can vary slightly by software version.
- Open Settings > Software update and select Download and install. Install any update offered for your model, country, and carrier.
- Compare the installed version and patch date with Samsung’s support record for your region. A later date shown for a different variant is not evidence that your handset should have received it.
If Samsung still offers updates for your variant, install them before troubleshooting the bank app. If no update appears, that can mean the rollout has not reached your carrier, the device is on a different regional firmware track, or support for that particular variant has changed.
Why the bank, not Samsung alone, decides whether the app works
A banking app has its own support policy. The bank can raise its minimum Android version, require a current app release, or reject devices that fail integrity checks even while the phone manufacturer continues issuing patches. Conversely, a bank may continue supporting an Android version after Samsung’s firmware support changes.
Android version and security-patch status are separate. A phone can satisfy an app’s published Android minimum while running an old manufacturer patch. The policies reviewed for this article do not establish that every bank blocks phones with stale patches, so you must check whether your bank evaluates patch age in addition to Android version.

Published minimums vary by bank and country
The following official requirements illustrate the range. They are examples from different markets, not a prediction for an unnamed bank. Policies were checked on October 13, 2026 and may change.

This spread explains why no responsible answer can promise continued access for every A04s owner. An A04s running Android 14 exceeds all of the minimums in the table, but the phone’s actual patch level, device state, and the bank’s later policy can still affect access.
How to verify your own bank-app compatibility
- Identify the bank’s official requirement. Use the bank’s support site or the app’s Google Play listing, and check the publication or update date. Look for both the minimum Android version and words about security patches, device integrity, rooting, bootloader modification, or Developer Options.
- Check the installed Android version. Compare it with the bank’s minimum, not with the latest Android version available on other phones. Android 10, 11, 12, and 13 are materially different thresholds in the policies above.
- Check the security patch separately. In Settings > About phone > Software information, note the patch date. If the bank specifies a maximum patch age, compare the dates directly. If it does not mention patch age, do not assume that an old patch is accepted indefinitely.
- Keep the app current. In Google Play, open your profile, choose Manage apps & device, and install updates for the banking app. An outdated app can fail even when Android itself meets the minimum.
- Leave the device unmodified. Do not root the phone, install modified system software, or turn on Developer Options to bypass a bank warning. BPI and Tesco Bank explicitly describe restrictions of this kind, and other banks may apply similar checks.
- Test before an urgent transaction. Sign in, view balances, and complete a low-risk action while you still have another access route available. Confirm that your bank’s required authentication method works on the A04s.
If the bank’s page only states an Android minimum and says nothing about patch age, treat that as incomplete information rather than a guarantee. Contact the bank and ask specifically whether it supports your model, Android release, patch level, and security configuration.

If the app still works after Samsung updates stop
Continued access does not mean the phone is receiving current security fixes. Banking involves credentials, payment approvals, and personal data, so the risk of keeping an unsupported handset rises over time even if the app opens normally. This is a security-planning issue, not proof that the bank will immediately block the device.

- Use a strong screen lock and avoid installing apps from outside trusted stores.
- Do not root or modify the phone to defeat compatibility checks.

When banking is important and the A04s no longer receives security updates, moving banking to a currently supported phone is the cautious option. Compare the replacement’s support commitment for the exact market, its current Android version, and compatibility with your bank; there is no single replacement model established by the available evidence.
What to do if the bank blocks the A04s
Use the bank’s browser service
Some banks provide an official web route when the app cannot run. Tesco Bank directs customers to Online Banking when a device cannot be upgraded. Bank of Ireland documents browser-based online banking using a physical security key. These are bank-specific arrangements: confirm that the browser service supports the actions and authentication method you need before abandoning the app.

Move the app to another supported phone
If your bank requires a newer Android version or a recent patch, use another device that meets those requirements. Install the app only from the official app store, follow the bank’s device-registration process, and remove access from the old phone if the bank provides that control. Do not attempt to bypass a block with modified firmware.
Ask the bank for its approved fallback
Contact the bank through a verified telephone number or secure message. Ask whether it supports browser banking, a physical security key, another authentication device, or a particular Android threshold. The answer can differ by country, account type, and the date the bank enforces its policy.

“Android version not supported”
Confirm the Android version in Settings, then compare it with the bank’s current requirement. If the phone is below the threshold, an app reinstall will not solve the compatibility issue. Use the bank’s browser route or a supported phone.

“Device is rooted” or “security requirements not met”
Check whether the phone has been rooted, modified, or configured with Developer Options. Restore an official, unmodified software state only through the bank’s or Samsung’s documented process; do not install unofficial tools advertised as bypasses.
The app disappears from Google Play
Google Play availability can reflect the bank’s device and Android filters. Verify that the phone is signed in to the correct Google account, install pending system updates, and check the bank’s official support page. If the app remains unavailable, request the bank’s approved alternative rather than downloading an unofficial package.
The app opens but transactions fail
Check the bank’s authentication requirements, app version, date and time settings, and network connection. A working login does not prove that every payment or approval feature is supported. Ask the bank whether your patch level or device-integrity state is being rejected.
A practical decision framework
- Keep using the A04s for now when your exact variant is current enough for your bank, the app is updated, the device is unmodified, and you have confirmed the bank’s latest requirements.
- Use browser banking or another official route when the app is blocked but the bank documents a secure alternative that supports your needed transactions and authentication.
- Move banking to a supported phone when the A04s is outside the bank’s Android minimum, has an irreconcilably old patch, or the bank has announced an enforcement date.
Recheck both Samsung’s support record and your bank’s requirements before making a major financial transaction. Firmware schedules, patch levels, and app policies can change independently.
