Yes—if you mean the Searches folder inside your Windows user profile, you can delete it. It contains saved-search definitions, usually .search-ms files. Removing them deletes the saved queries, not the documents they found. Check the folder and copy any searches you want to keep before deleting it.
What is the Searches folder?
The Windows user-profile folder at %USERPROFILE%Searches stores saved searches. Microsoft describes it as the place that “contains all saved searches.” Each .search-ms file records a query and details about where and how its results appear. Opening the saved search runs the query again, so its results can change as matching files change. See Microsoft’s documentation on saved searches and its Windows guide to saved searches.
What happens when you delete it?
- The saved queries are removed. You can no longer open and rerun a query from a deleted
.search-msfile. - The matched documents remain. A saved-search file stores the query, not the files returned by that query.
- Windows Search indexing is unaffected. Indexing is a separate Windows feature with its own settings and local index data. Deleting saved searches is not the same as disabling or resetting the index. See Microsoft’s Windows search-indexing FAQ.
- It does not clear Bing search activity. Microsoft-account web-search history has separate privacy controls; deleting this local folder is not documented as clearing it. See Microsoft’s search-history privacy controls.
How to check and safely delete it
- In File Explorer, enter
%USERPROFILE%Searchesin the address bar and press Enter. Confirm that this is the folder under your own Windows user profile, rather than another folder with a similar name. - Inspect its contents. Saved searches are typically files ending in
.search-ms. - Copy any saved-search files you may want to reuse to another location. Keeping a copy preserves the query definition.
- If you no longer need the saved searches, delete the folder in File Explorer. If Windows refuses or the folder reappears, verify the path and contents before trying other fixes; the available documentation does not establish a universal cause for that behavior.
Which kind of search are you trying to remove?
Windows uses “search” for several distinct things. The profile’s Searches folder contains reusable query definitions. Indexing helps Windows find files and other content. Bing activity is web-search history associated with an account. Use the setting or privacy control for the feature you mean; deleting an unrelated system or application folder will not address it.
