Not necessarily. HPE Networking chief Rami Rahim told The Register that roughly 70–80% of tickets do not require human intervention. That is his estimate—not a verified rate showing HPE autonomously repairs 70–80% of network problems. The interview provides no calculation method, measurement period, or covered customer population.
What Rahim’s 70–80% figure means
In an interview published October 11, 2026, Rahim said: “I think we’re now at probably around 70 to 80 percent of all tickets don’t require human intervention.” The wording describes tickets that do not need a person to intervene; it does not establish that every such ticket was automatically diagnosed and repaired.
The interview does not define the ticket denominator, identify the organizations included, state the measurement period, or explain how the percentage was calculated. It is therefore best read as an executive estimate about HPE’s experience, not a benchmark for all enterprise networks or an independently audited result. The Register’s interview with Rahim is the source for the estimate.

Does “no human intervention” mean autonomous repair?
Not always. A ticket can avoid human intervention for different reasons: a system may resolve the issue, or it may identify the cause and prepare information so an operator can act quickly. Reporting on Rahim’s comments at a separate event describes a combined measure that includes issues either remediated or diagnosed with information ready for an operator. That broader formulation should not be treated as an autonomous repair rate.

Rahim’s interview also uses a common complaint—“the Wi-Fi sucks”—to explain that a reported wireless problem may actually originate in an application, WAN, or cloud-provider issue. That is his characterization, not evidence that Wi-Fi complaints are universally the most common enterprise ticket. It illustrates why counting tickets “handled” without defining the outcome can obscure what the system actually did.
What HPE says its network can automate
HPE announced self-driving actions across HPE Mist and HPE Aruba Central on May 6, 2026. The examples in HPE’s announcement include:
Rank #2
- Smart-managed Layer 2 Ethernet switch series ready to deploy in 8-, 24-, 48-port for non-PoE and Class 4 PoE models.
- Up to 370W of PoE to power APs, IP Phones, surveillance cameras, door locks and other IoT devices
- Two (2) and four (4) dedicated 1G SFP fiber ports on 24- and 48-port models respectively to eliminate traffic bottlenecks across your network
- Cost-effective PoE Support: with half of the ports capable of supporting PoE, these switches are ideal for cost-sensitive environments.
- 8-port non-PoE switch that can be powered by an upstream Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch for environments where no line power is available.
- Dynamic capacity optimization that tunes radio parameters.
- Autonomous remediation for missing VLANs.
- Rogue DHCP protection.
- Real-time dynamic frequency selection.
- Client roaming optimization.
These are specific capabilities described by HPE; their existence does not verify Rahim’s 70–80% estimate. In the interview, he says operators can enable automated actions “feature by feature, and capability by capability,” and gives rebooting a switch port as a simple example. This indicates that automation is bounded by the available actions and what operators enable, rather than establishing that every network operation runs autonomously.

HPE has published customer outcome figures, but their metrics are not interchangeable with the share of tickets that need no human intervention.

| Reported result | What it measures and who reported it |
|---|---|
| Approximately 75% fewer Service Desk tickets | UK Ministry of Justice Director of Technology Nava Ramanan attributed this approximate reduction to HPE Self-driving Network capabilities in HPE’s May 2026 announcement. It is a customer statement published by HPE, not Rahim’s ticket-intervention percentage. HPE announcement |
| Management of around 15,000 devices brought in-house | Ramanan’s statement in the same announcement describes the ministry’s device-management change; it is not a count of autonomously resolved tickets. HPE announcement |
| Approximately 75% fewer incidents seen by the network operations center | HPE’s Q2 FY2026 earnings-call transcript describes this Ministry of Justice outcome after deployment of a suite of solutions that included HPE self-driving network capabilities. It is an incident-volume measure, not the percentage of tickets requiring no human intervention. HPE Q2 FY2026 earnings-call transcript |
| 90% reduction in incident volume; annual patching effort from nearly 2,000–3,000 hours to under 60 hours | Customer speaker Sajeev Nair gave these figures at HPE Networking Investor Day on September 30, 2026. They are his statements in an HPE event transcript, not independently audited results. HPE Networking Investor Day transcript |
Ticket counts, incident counts, and hours spent patching measure different things. None of these customer examples independently establishes how HPE calculated Rahim’s 70–80% estimate.

Rahim also told The Register: “Within two to three years, we’ll have no issues that require humans.” The report notes hardware swaps as an exception. This is a forecast, not a demonstrated capability or a guarantee about when a particular customer’s network will become hands-off.

For an organization assessing the claim, the most useful questions are how the vendor defines a ticket that needs no human intervention, whether “handled” means repaired or merely diagnosed, which customer deployments and time period are counted, and which automated actions operators have enabled. Without those details, the percentage is informative as Rahim’s estimate but cannot establish a comparable or independently verified repair rate.
