Yes. A PlayStation Plus subscriber can share selected benefits with other profiles on the same PS5 by enabling Console Sharing and Offline Play. On PS4, the subscriber must activate that console as their primary PS4. Other profiles can then play eligible downloaded games, but they do not receive ownership of those games or the ability to redeem PS Plus titles on their own accounts.

The arrangement is designed for one household console setup: one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled, plus one PS4 designated as the subscriber’s primary PS4. It is not a general license for sharing with a friend’s separate console.

What PS Plus sharing actually does

PlayStation Plus benefits are attached to the subscriber’s account, but Sony allows selected benefits to be used by other profiles on specifically activated consoles. The other person signs in with their own PlayStation account and uses their own saves, trophies, settings and parental-control profile.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The console activation supplies the license access; it does not merge accounts. The subscriber remains the account that downloaded or claimed the game, and another profile cannot convert that access into an independent PS Plus entitlement.

PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled Other users of that PS5 One PS5 at a time
PS4 Subscriber’s account activated as the primary PS4 Other users of that primary PS4 One primary PS4

A subscriber can use the supported PS5 and primary-PS4 arrangement, but the benefit is still tied to those activated consoles. PlayStation does not support extending the same sharing arrangement to a friend’s separate console.

How to share PS Plus games on a PS5

  1. Sign in on the PS5 with the PlayStation account that has the PS Plus membership. The setting must be enabled from that subscriber account.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Users and Accounts.
  4. Choose Other.
  5. Select Console Sharing and Offline Play.
  6. Choose Enable.

After activation, download the eligible PS Plus game from the subscriber’s account. Other profiles using that PS5 can then launch the downloaded title from their own accounts. Console Sharing and Offline Play also allows users of that PS5 to play the subscriber’s purchased and downloaded games and media when the console is offline.

Only one PS5 can have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled for the subscriber at a time. If the household changes consoles, review this setting on the PS5 intended for sharing before expecting another profile to access the library.

How to share PS Plus games on a PS4

  1. Sign in on the PS4 with the PS Plus subscriber’s account.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Account Management.
  4. Choose Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4.
  5. Confirm the activation.

Once that PS4 is the subscriber’s primary console, other local users can use the shareable benefits on the console. A PlayStation account can have one primary PS4 for this purpose. The PS4 procedure is separate from the PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play switch, so use the instructions that match the console in the household.

Which PS Plus benefits family members can use

Benefit or content Can another profile use it? Conditions
Online multiplayer Yes Available through the activated console, subject to parental controls and other account restrictions.
Downloaded Monthly Plus games Yes The subscriber must have downloaded the eligible game to the activated console.
Games downloaded after a PS Plus discount Yes Another profile can play the downloaded game; it does not receive the subscriber’s discount entitlement.
PlayStation Plus Game Catalog titles Yes Only when the subscriber’s membership plan includes that catalog and the title is downloaded.
PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog titles Yes Only when the subscriber’s membership plan includes the Classics Catalog and the title is downloaded.
Games and media purchased and downloaded by the subscriber Yes on the activated console Console Sharing and Offline Play is specifically intended to let other PS5 users play the subscriber’s downloaded purchases, including while offline.

Catalog access is plan-dependent. A profile may be able to launch a catalog game only while it remains an eligible title under the subscriber’s plan and is available through the activated console. A title being visible in the store does not mean every PS Plus plan includes it.

What cannot be shared

Activation does not duplicate every account-level PS Plus feature. The following remain tied to the subscriber:

  • Redeeming PS Plus games: another profile cannot claim or redeem a PS Plus game to its own library through the shared console.
  • Buying with the subscriber’s PS Plus discount: the other profile cannot use the discount as if it held the membership. Purchases should be made by the account entitled to the offer.
  • Online storage: the subscriber’s PS Plus cloud storage is not shared with other profiles.
  • Automatic patch downloads: another profile does not inherit the subscriber’s automatic patch-download benefit through console sharing.
  • Early access to time-limited trials: early-access trial privileges are not transferred to the other account.

These limits explain why sharing is access to selected benefits on a console, not a second membership. Each family member who needs their own cloud storage, redemption rights or account-level offers needs those features on their own account.

Can two accounts play the same PS Plus game?

Yes, when the game is downloaded to the activated PS5 or primary PS4 by the subscriber, another profile on that console can start it from its own account. The second player does not need to redeem the game separately.

Use separate profiles rather than handing over the subscriber’s login. This keeps save files and trophies associated with the person actually playing and prevents accidental purchases or changes to the membership account. The game must be one of the titles covered by the subscriber’s eligible PS Plus access; a locked or unavailable catalog title cannot be made playable merely by changing profiles.

For online play, the shared console can provide the relevant multiplayer benefit, but parental controls and age restrictions still apply. A child profile may be prevented from using a game or online feature even though the console activation is correct.

PS5 sharing versus PS4 sharing

The outcome is similar, but the activation model is different. On PS5, the feature is called Console Sharing and Offline Play and is found under Settings > Users and Accounts > Other. On PS4, the subscriber designates one console under Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4.

The console generations do not create a license that follows a family member to every device. If a family member uses a different, non-designated console, the PS Plus sharing arrangement does not automatically follow them.

Do not confuse console sharing with Share Play

Console Sharing and Offline Play is a persistent console-level setting. It lets profiles that use the same activated PS5 access selected downloaded games and benefits, including when the PS5 is offline.

Share Play is a temporary session in which a host streams a game session or hands control to a visitor. On PS5, a Share Play session lasts one hour. Its play-together mode requires PS Plus for both participants. Share Play therefore is not a way to give a family member a permanent copy of a PS Plus game or to add the game to that person’s library.

Why a family member may see a lock icon

The PS5 setting is disabled or enabled on another PS5

Sign in with the subscriber’s account and check Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. The intended PS5 must show the setting as enabled. Because only one PS5 can use the setting at a time, verify that the subscriber has selected the household console.

The PS4 is not the subscriber’s primary PS4

On PS4, check Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4 while signed in as the subscriber. The account can have one primary PS4 for this purpose.

The title was never downloaded by the subscriber

Console sharing exposes eligible downloaded content. Have the subscriber open the game’s page and download it while signed in to the membership account, then let the other profile try again.

The title is outside the membership plan

Game Catalog and Classics Catalog access depends on the PS Plus plan. If a catalog title is not included in the subscriber’s plan, console activation cannot make it available.

Parental controls block the game or multiplayer

Check the child account’s age rating, communication and online-multiplayer restrictions. Shared benefits remain subject to those controls, so a correct activation does not override a family-safety setting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The user expects cloud storage or redemption

A lock is not necessarily an activation failure when the requested action is account-level. The other profile cannot redeem the subscriber’s PS Plus game, use the subscriber’s online storage, claim the discount, receive automatic patch downloads or obtain early access to time-limited trials through this arrangement.

A practical household setup

  1. Choose the one PS5 that most family members use and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play there, or choose the one PS4 that should be the subscriber’s primary PS4.
  2. Keep each person on a separate local PlayStation profile and sign in to the subscriber’s account only for activation and downloads.
  3. Download Monthly Plus games and eligible catalog or Classics Catalog titles from the subscriber’s account.
  4. Have each family member launch the game from their own profile and confirm that parental controls allow the required age rating and multiplayer features.
  5. Do not try to redeem the same PS Plus game on every account; the shared console provides access without creating separate entitlements.

If the family starts using another console, repeat the appropriate activation check before troubleshooting the game itself. A friend’s separate console is outside the supported sharing arrangement, even if that person is using a family member’s account.
