No. Bungie provides no supported way to move a Destiny 1 Guardian or save into an unofficial PC game. Destiny 1’s old migration was a one-time recognition step for Destiny 2, not a general export, and Cross Save does not support Destiny 1.
A fan project can potentially read selected Destiny 1 records through Bungie’s authorized API access, then create a new, project-owned character from the data it actually receives. That is a custom importer, not a transfer of the original character, inventory, or progression.
Three different things are often confused
The answer changes depending on what “transfer” means. Bungie has supported one historical Destiny 1-to-Destiny 2 recognition process, offers Cross Save for Destiny 2, and documents an API that third-party applications can use with authorization. None of those mechanisms is a save-conversion service for an unrelated PC project.
Recognition in Destiny 2
On August 1, 2017, Bungie ran an automatic Account and Character Migration for qualifying Destiny 1 data. It prepared a limited description of a Guardian so Destiny 2 could recognize that history. It did not create a portable Destiny 1 save file.

Cross Save
Bungie’s current Cross Save guide states: “Cross Save is only supported for Destiny 2, and cannot be used on Destiny 1 characters.” Cross Save therefore cannot connect a Destiny 1 console character to a PC fan project, nor can it move a Destiny 1 save between platforms.
Third-party API access
The API is an application interface, not a universal export. An authorized application may receive particular records and then translate them into its own data model. The fan project must decide what those records mean, how to create a character, and what happens when information is missing or conflicts with an existing account.
What the 2017 Destiny 1 migration actually carried
The historical migration used the same PlayStation Network ID or Xbox Gamertag associated with the Destiny 1 account. Bungie said it could not move an account from one platform to another. Only information that existed at the August 1, 2017 cutoff qualified.
The recognized subset was deliberately narrow:
- Character class
- Character race
- Character gender
- Face, hair and marking selections
- Character creation date
- Selected accomplishments
Bungie explicitly excluded items, game content, Silver and Eververse licenses. A Guardian’s weapons, armor, vault contents, currencies and purchased entitlements therefore did not become a transferable package through that process. Even for Destiny 2, the result was recognition of selected history rather than a complete Destiny 1 inventory import.

This distinction matters for a fan project: reproducing the appearance and a few milestones is technically very different from reproducing a live character with every item, quest state, currency balance and entitlement.
Why Cross Save cannot solve the PC-project problem
Cross Save is an account-linking feature inside Destiny 2’s supported ecosystem. It selects which Destiny 2 characters are active across linked platforms; it does not expose Destiny 1 characters as downloadable files and does not authorize another game to instantiate them.
Using the same console account on a PC does not change that boundary. A project cannot rely on a Cross Save handshake to obtain a Destiny 1 Guardian, and a user cannot use Cross Save to move Destiny 1 progress to an unofficial title.

Bungie’s API documentation identifies https://www.bungie.net/Platform as the API root. Requests require an X-API-Key, and authenticated requests use Bungie’s OAuth mechanisms. The documented scopes include “Read Destiny 1 Inventory and Vault contents.” Bungie’s Legacy Support for Destiny 1 FAQ also says that, after Destiny 2 launched, the Destiny API would remain available and fully functional for third-party app developers.

Those statements support a limited, read-only integration concept. They do not promise that every historical field is still returned, that a user’s profile is complete, or that an application can write a character into a different game. They also do not document a general save-export format or an API call that creates a character in an unrelated project.
Data availability is not the same as historical ownership
Bungie said most Destiny 1 character data stopped being viewable in the Companion on August 23, 2017. A project should therefore treat a successful OAuth login as only the beginning of validation. The API response may be partial, stale, unavailable for a particular membership, or limited to inventory and vault records rather than the appearance and accomplishment fields a designer wants.
What the API cannot be assumed to provide
- A downloadable, complete Destiny 1 save archive
- A supported write operation that creates or edits a character in the fan project
- Guaranteed access to every quest, activity, achievement or appearance field
- Automatic ownership of Destiny 1 game content, Silver or Eververse licenses inside the new game
- Permanent availability of legacy records merely because an API scope exists
Build only against fields that the application actually receives. The scope name is evidence that a category of read access is documented; it is not evidence that every account has a complete record.

If the project is permitted to use Bungie services and the player gives clear consent, treat import as a controlled onboarding workflow. Keep the Bungie identity separate from the project’s own player identity.

- Explain the result before login. Tell the player that the project will create a new character from available data, not move the original save. State which fields the project intends to use and that inventory or appearance may be unavailable.
- Register and authenticate correctly. Keep the API key on the server, use Bungie OAuth for the player’s authorization, request only the scopes the feature needs, and avoid putting long-lived credentials in a desktop client or mod package.
- Fetch and preserve the raw response. Record the retrieval time, membership identifiers and API response version in a protected import record. Do not silently discard unknown fields; they may help diagnose a later mapping problem.
- Normalize into a project-owned snapshot. Convert returned values into a versioned internal schema. Store the Bungie membership ID as an external reference, while assigning the fan project its own player ID and character ID.
- Map only supported concepts. Translate class, race, gender, appearance selections, creation date, accomplishments, inventory and vault entries only when each source field has a defined destination. Mark unsupported or missing values as unavailable instead of guessing.
- Show a preview. Let the player inspect the proposed class, appearance, milestones and item treatment before anything is created. Display fields that could not be read and explain how the project will handle them.
- Resolve conflicts explicitly. If the project account already has a character with the same name, appearance or imported item identifier, ask whether to merge, create a new character or skip that field. Never overwrite an existing character silently.
- Commit idempotently. Give each import a stable source identifier and schema version. Repeating the import should update the same pending snapshot or report that it was already applied, rather than duplicating characters and items.
- Provide rollback and manual recovery. Keep the pre-import project state, allow an administrator or player to remove the generated character, and offer manual recreation when the Bungie profile cannot be read.

}The example deliberately separates external identity, imported values and availability. A production schema should also retain consent time, import status and an audit trail without exposing tokens.

Handling inventory, vaults and progression
Inventory and vault records
If an authorized response contains Destiny 1 inventory or vault entries, the project still needs a translation layer. Item hashes, perks, sockets, rarity labels and quantities may have no equivalent in the fan game. Preserve the source identifier for auditing, then map into a project item only when the destination rules are explicit. For an item with no equivalent, show it in the preview as “not imported” rather than inventing a substitute.
Levels, quests and accomplishments
Do not treat a character-creation date or selected accomplishment as proof of a complete quest history. A project can award a cosmetic badge, unlock a starting choice or grant a milestone flag, but those are new project rules. Keep the original value and the derived reward separate so that a later rules change does not corrupt the imported record.

Silver, Eververse licenses and Destiny game content were excluded from the 2017 migration. A fan project should not claim that those entitlements transfer. If the project has its own cosmetics or DLC, require its own ownership rules rather than attempting to mirror Bungie purchases.

Common failure modes and fixes
- OAuth succeeds but no Guardian appears: verify that the selected Bungie membership is the one used for Destiny 1, then show a manual-recreation path. Do not interpret an empty response as a zeroed character.
- Only vault or item data is returned: import those records only if the project has defined mappings and mark appearance, accomplishments or quest history as unavailable.
- The player expects a PC save file: explain that the API response is application data, not a portable save. The project must create its own character record.
- Duplicate characters are created after retrying: use a stable source membership and import identifier, enforce idempotency and expose the import status to the player.
- Platform accounts do not match: the 2017 migration required the same PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag and did not move accounts between platforms. Ask the player to authenticate the qualifying account or use manual entry.
- Legacy service behavior changes: cache only what the player has consented to store, display the retrieval date, and allow the project to continue with a manual fallback instead of blocking account creation.
What players should expect
A realistic promise is: “We will try to read selected Destiny 1 data, show you exactly what was found, and create a new project character after you approve the mapping.” An unrealistic promise is: “Log in and your original Guardian, gear, currencies and purchases will appear on PC.”
Players should be able to cancel before creation, see missing fields, understand whether an item was converted or skipped, and request deletion of the project’s imported record. The project should never ask for a console password; Bungie OAuth should handle authentication, with the project receiving only the authorization result and permitted data.
Decision checklist for project developers
- Is use of Bungie’s API permitted for the project, and is the player’s consent recorded?
- Does the server protect the
X-API-Keyand OAuth tokens? - Which exact response fields have tested mappings, and which are explicitly unavailable?
- Can the importer preview, cancel, retry safely and roll back?
- Are Bungie membership IDs kept separate from project account IDs?
- What happens when a player has no readable Destiny 1 data?
- Does the user interface distinguish historical source data from rewards invented by the fan project?
Bottom line
Destiny 1 characters and progress do not directly transfer into a PC fan project. Bungie’s only official migration was the limited 2017 Destiny 1-to-Destiny 2 recognition process, and Cross Save is restricted to Destiny 2. An unofficial project may build an API-assisted importer for whatever legacy data an authorized request returns, but it must own the schema, mappings, validation, conflict handling and fallback. The dependable product is a transparent recreation workflow—not a claimed transfer of the original Guardian.
