No—Bluetooth has no single password that locks the radio against every device. A passkey, PIN, number match, or confirmation prompt can protect a particular pairing, but it is not a master password for Bluetooth. You can reduce unwanted connections by pairing deliberately, removing old pairings, keeping devices updated, and switching Bluetooth off when it is not needed.
What a Bluetooth password can—and cannot—do
Bluetooth does not provide a universal password setting. Instead, devices use a pairing procedure to establish a relationship with a specific accessory. Depending on the devices and pairing method, setup may ask you to enter a passkey or PIN, compare numbers, or confirm a prompt. Those steps apply to that pairing; they do not password-lock the Bluetooth radio or replace your phone’s screen lock.
Once devices are paired, they may reconnect without asking you to enter a passkey again. Android’s help page says paired devices remain paired until you unpair them. Android Help: Find and set up Bluetooth devices near your Android device
Passkey, PIN, and pairing prompts: what they mean
Passkey and PIN
In modern Bluetooth terminology, a passkey is a six-digit numeric value used by specified pairing procedures. “PIN” is generally the term associated with older legacy pairing. The exact steps vary by phone, accessory, and Bluetooth method, so follow the instructions shown on both devices rather than assuming every pairing uses the same code. - Plug & Play with Free Driver Support - Plug and play for Windows 8.1/10/11 (internet required). Supports Win7 (driver required and can be downloaded from website for free). Download the latest driver from TP-Link website to utilize Bluetooth 5.4
A Bluetooth passkey is not your phone’s unlock password, and there is no universal Bluetooth password to set. If Android asks for a passcode and you do not have it, its help page suggests trying common values such as 0000 or 1234. Treat those as accessory-specific troubleshooting suggestions—not guaranteed codes or safe defaults for every device.
Numeric comparison and confirmation
Some pairing procedures show a number on both devices or ask you to confirm a connection. Accept only if you initiated pairing, recognize the accessory, and the displayed values match when comparison is involved. Reject prompts you did not expect. A Bluetooth SIG notice describes a method-confusion vulnerability in which a nearby attacker could benefit if a user mistakes a numeric comparison value for a passkey and accepts pairing. Once paired, the car receiver will automatically reconnect to your last paired Bluetooth devices, as long as they are within the wireless range.
How to reduce unwanted Bluetooth connections
- Pair only when needed. NIST recommends pairing as infrequently as possible and in a secure area. Avoid exposing passkey entry to people nearby. NIST SP 800-121 Rev. 2, Guide to Bluetooth Security
- Reject unsolicited pairing requests. Do not enter a PIN or passkey unless you initiated setup and are certain the request comes from the device you intend to connect.
- Remove pairings for devices you no longer use. Open your device’s Bluetooth settings, select the saved accessory, and choose the available unpair or forget option. The label and menu path differ by operating system and version.
- Install current system and accessory updates. Keep your phone, computer, and Bluetooth accessory firmware current, following the device maker’s update instructions. Bluetooth SIG vulnerability notices recommend installing the latest recommended updates.
- Turn Bluetooth off when practical. NIST includes disabling Bluetooth when it is not in use among its operational recommendations. The exact control depends on the device.
What Bluetooth security guidance does—and does not—guarantee
Bluetooth SIG’s 2020 Bluetooth Security and Privacy Best Practices Guide says the specified authenticated Secure Simple Pairing methods provide man-in-the-middle protection and gives a probability of 99.9999% or greater that an attacker will fail to intercede in the described key exchange. That figure applies to the guide’s described procedures; it is not a universal safety probability for every Bluetooth device, implementation, or threat. The guide favors modern Secure Simple Pairing methods over legacy pairing. Bluetooth Security and Privacy Best Practices Guide
Security notices also show why the pairing method and implementation matter. The Bluetooth SIG has described a passkey-entry vulnerability affecting specified BR/EDR and LE pairing procedures in Core Specification versions up to 5.2, under conditions including an attacker within radio range. A separate notice covers method confusion involving numeric comparison and passkey entry. Another describes an impersonation issue for legacy BR/EDR PIN-code pairing in Core Specification versions 1.0B through 5.2 under specified conditions. These notices do not establish that every device or connection is vulnerable; they support careful pairing and keeping software current. Bluetooth SIG security notices

Why a pairing code should not be reused as a master password
A passkey is part of a particular pairing procedure, not a credential you can set once to secure every Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth SIG’s Core Specification 6.0 states: “The Passkey should be generated randomly during each pairing procedure and not be reused from a previous procedure. Static Passkeys should not be used since they can compromise the security of the link.” Bluetooth Core Specification 6.0, Security Specification

- Open Bluetooth settings on your Android device and select Pair new device.
- Tap the accessory you intend to connect to.
- Follow the on-screen instructions on the phone and accessory. If a passkey or number comparison appears, continue only when it matches the pairing you initiated.
- If you no longer want the devices connected, return to Bluetooth settings and unpair the accessory.
