Asking an AI agent to fetch a page as “text” is not, by itself, a proven way to make retrieval faster. The available Skales documentation describes general REST API requests—not a special text-only page format or a measured speed advantage. Whether this works depends on whether the site provides a suitable endpoint and how the response is handled.
What the Skales guide actually documents
The Skales User Guide, displayed as version 12.9.46, describes Skales as a personal AI operating system that runs locally. Its API-request feature can call REST APIs and submit web forms. The agent can work with the request method, headers, body, and response. Read the Skales User Guide.
The guide gives this natural-language example: “Search the web for the three most recent reviews of Skales and give me the links.” That example demonstrates a request for a web search; it does not establish a command that retrieves a webpage in a special text format.

The guide does not report a speed test or say that requesting “text” reduces latency. It also does not establish that a website offers a text endpoint, or that Skales implements a particular text-content negotiation convention. So the title’s speed claim cannot be treated as a documented result.

In general, request headers can affect what a server returns, but only when the server supports and honors the relevant behavior. A text-oriented response might contain less data in some circumstances, but that alone does not prove the whole request will be faster. The cited guide provides no comparative measurements of response size, processing time, or latency.
What happens when Skales makes an API request?
- The guide says read requests run directly.
- Write requests—POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE—require approval.
- It says the call identifies itself as Skales and does not impersonate a browser. If you set a
User-Agentheader, the guide says that value is sent as provided.
These details describe request behavior; they do not promise that a website will accept a request, return page text, or respond faster.

What to conclude before trying a text-first request
Use the site’s documented API or endpoint if it offers one, and check that its documentation specifies the response format you want. The Skales guide supports controlling request details, but it does not verify a universal “ask for text” method. Without a documented endpoint and a comparison under the same conditions, a speed benefit remains unestablished.
