Possibly—but a used PS5 Pro does not automatically qualify for a return or Sony warranty service. The answer depends on where you live, who sold it, when it was originally purchased, its condition, and whether you have the original receipt. A retailer return is separate from a warranty repair.
Can Sony repair a used PS5 Pro under warranty?
In the United States, Sony’s PS5 limited hardware warranty lasts one year from the original purchase date, applies to the original purchaser, and requires valid proof of that purchase to obtain service. That means a secondhand buyer should not assume the warranty transfers. Sony’s US buying guide says third-party used PlayStation products are not covered by warranty. In the UK, Sony says third-party used products may not be covered, while noting that applicable statutory rights are unaffected. What you need to check
- The original purchase date: the US warranty period runs from that date, not from your secondhand purchase.
- The original retailer receipt or bill of sale. Sony’s US warranty requires valid proof showing the original purchase date.
- The console’s original sales country and region, since warranty terms are regional.
- The console’s condition and service history. The US warranty lists exclusions including misuse, unauthorized service or opening, and items clearly sold “as is” or with faults.
Have the receipt and console serial number ready when contacting PlayStation Support. Sony’s warranty also warns that service may change settings or result in data loss, so back up your data before sending the console in.

Can you return a used PS5 Pro to the seller?
A warranty claim is not a general right to get your money back. Sony’s US warranty describes repair or replacement for covered defects; it does not establish a refund right for a console bought from an unrelated seller.
Return rights depend on the seller’s policy and the law that applies to your transaction. PlayStation Direct’s US returns policy applies to purchases made from PlayStation Direct, while PlayStation’s UK hardware refund page describes that seller’s own policy, including a goodwill return window of 30 days from delivery for eligible items. Neither policy creates a universal return window for a used console bought elsewhere. Do not treat a listing described only as “refurbished” as equivalent to Sony-certified refurbished. The warranty provider, duration, eligibility for a secondhand purchaser, proof requirements, and return shipping terms can differ.

What to check before buying a used PS5 Pro
Sony’s used-product buying guidance recommends checking seller feedback, requesting a test video, inspecting the console, checking service connectivity, and ensuring the seller has deactivated it. Use those checks alongside a written agreement on returns:
- Get the paperwork. Ask for the dated original retailer receipt or invoice, and confirm where and when the console was first sold.
- Get return terms in writing. Ask the seller how long you have to return it and what happens if it fails or cannot connect to PlayStation services soon after purchase.
- Ask for a test video. Request footage of the console powering on and, where applicable, the disc drive, ports, and buttons being tested, plus internet and PlayStation service connectivity.
- Inspect the console. Look for damage and confirm the serial number is present. Ensure the previous owner has deactivated the console.
- Keep the listing and messages. These document what the seller represented and the terms you agreed to.

If you already own the console and it has a problem
- Find the original receipt and note the console serial number.
- Contact PlayStation Support for the console’s country of sale and ask whether that specific unit is eligible for service.
- If Sony declines warranty service, review the seller’s return or repair policy and any statutory rights that apply where you bought it.
- Back up data before any service, since service may change settings or result in data loss.
