Yes—if your laptop supports the hub’s video and USB-C Power Delivery features, and the hub has the display outputs and ports you need. But the available price evidence does not verify that all five models below are cheaper than a dock. In the Anker US catalog snapshot, the 555 cost $35.99 and the 565 cost $50.99, while Anker’s 575 dock was listed at $199.99 and its Prime DL7400 at $299.99. Those are observed catalog prices, not guaranteed current prices or a complete five-product comparison.
When can a USB-C hub replace a dock?
A hub can handle a compact desk setup when it connects your required monitor or monitors, peripherals, network, and—if needed—laptop charging. A dock may still be the better fit if you need a specific combination of ports or displays that a hub does not provide.
Start with the laptop, not the connector shape: USB-C alone does not guarantee video output or charging. For the Anker hubs described below, the laptop’s USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for video and Power Delivery for charging through the hub. Check your laptop manufacturer’s port specifications and the exact hub model’s documentation before buying.

How to choose the right hub for your setup
Check display count and operating system
Confirm that the laptop and hub together can drive the number of independent external displays you want. Connector count is not proof that two separate desktops will work. For example, Belkin specifies extended and mirrored dual-display support for the INC027 on Windows and ChromeOS, while macOS supports mirrored display mode. Check Belkin’s model-specific display notes.
Match resolution and refresh rate to the host
Look at the specification for each output, then verify that the laptop’s video signal supports it. A hub’s advertised maximum is not a promise that every connected laptop and monitor will reach it. Compare power delivered to the laptop—not just input
Pass-through wattage describes what the hub can accept from a charger; it does not necessarily equal power reaching the laptop. Belkin estimates that the INC027 uses roughly 15 W from its 100 W input, leaving up to 85 W for the host. For the INC015, Belkin gives an example of up to 50 W to the host when using a 65 W charger with the hub’s functions active. Compare the delivered amount with your laptop’s charging needs.

Count the ports and check their data rates
List the devices you plan to leave connected—such as a keyboard, mouse, external storage, Ethernet, and memory cards—and match those needs to the hub’s USB-A and USB-C ports, data rates, card readers, and network connection. A port that physically fits a device may not provide the speed or function you expect.

Compare the complete setup cost
Compare hub and dock prices in the same region and at the same time. Include a compatible charger if one is needed: Belkin says a charger is not included with the INC015. The Anker US catalog snapshot showed the 555 at $35.99 and 565 at $50.99 alongside the 575 dock at $199.99 and Prime DL7400 at $299.99; those listed prices are volatile and do not establish a five-model price ranking. - Look up the laptop’s exact USB-C port capabilities, including DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery where relevant.
- Confirm the operating system’s support for the display arrangement you want, especially if you need two independent screens.
- Check resolution and refresh rate for each output against the laptop’s video capability and your monitors.
- Make sure the power delivered through the hub is sufficient, and account for a separate charger if required.
