No validated consumer temporary-tattoo thermometer is established by the available evidence. A patch can be the form of a medical temperature-measurement device, but that does not show that a specific tattoo product exists or provides accurate readings. For an intermittent body-temperature measurement, use a clinical thermometer according to its instructions.
Can a temporary tattoo take your temperature?
It is not established that a temporary tattoo can take a validated body-temperature reading. The evidence does not identify a currently available temporary-tattoo thermometer with verified accuracy, intended use, or regulatory status. That is different from proving that no such product exists; it means you should not rely on a tattoo’s claimed temperature reading without product-specific validation.
A temperature sticker or skin patch is technically a plausible device format. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classifies continuous-measurement thermometers as devices that can measure body or skin temperature continuously or at intervals, and notes that these devices may be patches attached to a patient. Why a skin reading is not automatically body temperature
Some thermometers measure at the mouth, rectum, ear canal, armpit, or forehead. The FDA lists these as common measurement sites for clinical electronic thermometers used to measure a patient’s body temperature intermittently. Even established non-contact infrared thermometers measure surface temperature, and their readings can be affected by the environment and how the forehead is prepared. What related research does—and does not—show
Electrode tattoos record different signals
Research on a temporary tattoo electrode describes impedancemetric respiration monitoring and other electrophysiological recordings. Recording electrical signals is not the same as measuring temperature, so that work does not establish a temperature-sensing tattoo. PubMed search result on temporary tattoo electrodes.

FeverPhone is a smartphone prototype, not a tattoo
A 2023 FeverPhone study explored estimating temperature with smartphone sensors in contact with the forehead. It included 37 adults, 16 of whom had at least a low-grade fever. For one random-forest model using 90 seconds of data, the researchers reported a mean absolute error of 0.229 °C, sensitivity of 0.813, and specificity of 0.904. Participants with high fever and sweaty skin could be difficult to measure reliably. These results belong to that smartphone prototype and study; they do not demonstrate equivalent accuracy for a temporary tattoo. FeverPhone study, 2023.
What to use when you need a reading
For an intermittent body-temperature measurement, use a clinical thermometer designed for the measurement site you intend to use, and follow its instructions. The FDA describes clinical electronic thermometers as devices for intermittent measurement and recognizes common sites including the mouth, rectum, ear canal, armpit, and forehead. A digital thermometer is a practical general alternative; do not assume it connects to or is compatible with a temporary tattoo.

If you are considering a specific temperature patch or tattoo, check its stated measurement (skin or body temperature), validation method and accuracy, whether it provides continuous or spot readings, wear and placement conditions, and any applicable regulatory claims.
