No verified plugin in the available documentation turns a Steam Deck into a PSP, PS5, or Xbox 360. The claim appears to blur several separate functions: setting up emulators, changing controller identity, managing Xbox controller drivers, and customizing the Deck’s interface. Those can alter how the Deck works or looks, but they do not establish that it becomes another console or runs that console’s games.
What the “turn your Deck into a console” claim could mean
The phrase is ambiguous. It may mean running games originally made for a console, making the Deck act as that console’s controller, connecting a console controller to the Deck, or changing the Deck’s interface to resemble a console. These are different capabilities, and evidence for one does not prove another.
| Function | What it does | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Emulation setup | Configures emulator software to run compatible games from another system. | That the Deck has become the original console or can run every game from it. |
| Controller identity or output | Lets the Deck present input in a particular controller profile. | That games from that controller’s console can run on the Deck. |
| Controller-driver management | Helps manage support for compatible external controllers. | Game emulation for the console associated with those controllers. |
| Interface theming | Changes the Deck’s visual appearance. | Any change to the games or hardware the Deck can run. |
What the identified Steam Deck projects actually do
Decky Loader launches homebrew plugins
Decky Loader is described as a homebrew plugin launcher for Steam Deck. That describes the loader, not the capabilities of an unnamed plugin. Without a plugin name and its own documentation, the loader’s existence cannot verify the headline claim.

DeckyEmu describes installing emulators, transferring ROMs, adding games to Steam, and backing up saves. This is an emulation and library-management workflow, not evidence of a single plugin transforming the Deck into a PSP, PS5, or Xbox 360.

PPSSPP is a PSP emulator, not PSP hardware
The EmuDeck PPSSPP page describes configuring the PSP emulator, including its ROM location. It supports the narrower claim that a PSP emulator can be set up through an emulator workflow. It does not show that the Deck becomes PSP hardware. The page is old, so its setup details may no longer match current software.
The xone Decky plugin concerns Xbox controller drivers
The xone Decky plugin describes managing Xbox controller drivers, including support related to Xbox 360 peripherals. Driver support is about connecting or managing controllers; it is not Xbox 360 game emulation.

Controller profiles and themes change input or appearance
The separate deck-as-controller project describes controller profiles that include PS5/PS5 Edge and Xbox Elite identities. That concerns how the Deck presents controller input, not running games from those consoles. A community discussion of an Xbox 360-style Decky/CSS theme is about visual customization, not emulation.
What is and is not verified about PSP, PS5, and Xbox 360
- PSP: The cited material describes setting up PPSSPP, a PSP emulator. It does not verify the purported one-plugin transformation or establish compatibility with every PSP game.
- PS5: The cited material does not establish that the Deck runs PS5 games through the alleged plugin. A PS5 controller profile is not evidence of PS5 game execution.
- Xbox 360: The cited material concerns Xbox controller-driver management and an Xbox 360-style theme, not Xbox 360 game emulation.
None of these sources identifies the specific plugin named by the headline. Until its name and primary documentation are available, the broader claim remains unverified.

How to evaluate a plugin making this claim
Before installing a plugin advertised as turning the Deck into another console, check what it actually changes:
- Does its documentation explicitly say it runs games from the named console, or does it describe controller profiles, drivers, a launcher, or themes?
- Does the project identify supported systems and explain setup requirements?
- Does it document compatibility with the SteamOS and Decky versions you use?
- Are its claims supported by the plugin author’s own project page rather than a headline or an unrelated tool?
A plugin’s name or appearance is not enough to establish what it can run. Look for a clear statement about game execution and supported systems before treating a console-transformation claim as fact.
Quick Recap
Rank #4
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
