3uTools cannot remove or bypass Apple Account Activation Lock. It also cannot apply a carrier unlock: Apple says only the iPhone’s current carrier can do that. If you forgot your passcode, Apple’s reset process can restore access by erasing the device, but it does not remove Activation Lock. The right solution depends on which kind of “unlock” you mean.

First identify what is locking the iPhone

“Unlock iPhone” can describe three separate problems. The message or setting you see determines which route applies.

Lock type What you may see Who can resolve it What to expect
Carrier lock A message that the SIM or carrier is unsupported; in Settings, Carrier Lock does not say “No SIM restrictions.” The current carrier The carrier decides eligibility and handles the unlock. Apple cannot apply it.
Forgotten passcode or disabled iPhone You cannot enter the passcode or the phone says it is disabled or unavailable. The owner, using Apple’s reset or recovery process Reset erases the iPhone. You can restore personal data from a backup if one exists; Activation Lock may still require the linked Apple Account.
Activation Lock “iPhone Locked to Owner” or a request for the Apple Account previously used on the device. The account holder, the previous owner, or Apple through an eligible support request Erasing or flashing the phone does not authorize a new owner to activate it.

What 3uTools can and cannot do

3uTools’ own guide says it cannot remove or bypass iCloud/Apple ID Activation Lock. Its older guidance describes backing up, erasing, or restoring a device after a carrier has applied an unlock; it does not replace the carrier’s role.

A 2021 3uTools tutorial describes flashing a disabled iPhone on supported devices. Flashing can erase data, and retaining user data may leave the device disabled, according to that tutorial. It also says the phone must be activated afterward; if Activation Lock is enabled, the linked Apple Account is still required. For current instructions, use Apple’s recovery guidance rather than treating an older utility tutorial as a substitute.

#1 Best Overall
Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

If you want to use the iPhone with another carrier

  1. On the iPhone, open Settings > General > About.
  2. Find Carrier Lock. If it says No SIM restrictions, Apple identifies the iPhone as unlocked.
  3. If it is locked, contact the current carrier and ask about its eligibility requirements and unlock-request process. Apple Support puts the distinction plainly: “Only your current carrier can unlock your iPhone.”
  4. After the carrier confirms the unlock, follow its instructions and any applicable Apple setup guidance. Carrier requirements and processing depend on that carrier and account.

Apple’s instructions are in How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier. Asking Apple or using 3uTools cannot substitute for a request to the current carrier.

If you forgot the passcode or have a disabled iPhone

Apple’s recovery options depend on the device and circumstances. If you recently changed the passcode, an on-device Passcode Reset option may be available. Otherwise, Apple documents an on-device erase option for eligible iPhones when requirements are met, including a supported iOS version, a network connection, Find My enabled, and the Apple Account credentials. A computer-based recovery route is also available.

  1. Check for Apple’s Passcode Reset option. If you recently changed the passcode, see whether the on-device option is offered and follow Apple’s current directions.
  2. Use the on-device erase route if the iPhone offers it and you meet its conditions. You will need to authenticate with the Apple Account associated with the device.
  3. Use a computer if needed. Apple’s computer recovery route requires a Mac or PC, internet access, and a cable that can charge the iPhone. Follow Apple’s model-specific steps to put the phone into recovery mode and restore it.
  4. Set up the phone and restore a backup if available. Reset erases data stored on the iPhone. Recovery of personal data depends on having a backup. If Activation Lock appears during setup, you still need the linked account or an authorized removal route.

See Apple’s current instructions for what to do if you forgot your iPhone passcode. A reset is a way to regain access to the device setup process; it is not a way to remove someone else’s Activation Lock.

If you see “iPhone Locked to Owner”

  • If you are the account holder: enter the Apple Account and password linked to the iPhone.
  • If you bought it used: ask the previous owner to remove the device from their account. Do not complete the purchase while setup still requests that owner’s credentials.
  • If you own the device and cannot remove the lock: Apple provides an Activation Lock support request for cases where you have proof of purchase.

Apple explains these options in its Activation Lock support guidance. A third-party flash utility or paid bypass claim does not turn a locked iPhone into a device authorized for activation.
