0patch can add selective protection to some Windows 10 systems after standard Microsoft support ends, but it is not a substitute for Microsoft updates or a guarantee that the PC is safe. It patches only selected vulnerabilities on versions it has adopted, and its own documentation acknowledges that some problems cannot be fixed with micropatches. For eligible devices, Microsoft’s consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program remains an official option through October 12, 2027.

What does 0patch do on a Windows 10 PC?

0patch is a third-party service from ACROS Security. Its Agent connects a computer to an account and downloads micropatches that the service considers relevant to software modules detected on that machine. 0patch describes these as small code changes applied to running processes in memory rather than changes written into executable files. It says patches can be applied or removed individually without restarting the computer or relaunching affected applications. These are the vendor’s descriptions, not independent test results. 0patch’s explanation of how it differs from ESU

0patch uses the term “security-adopted” for product versions it monitors for newly disclosed critical vulnerabilities and patches where possible. Its list updated September 4, 2026, identifies Windows 10 22H2 updated through October 2025. The same page listed Windows 10 22H2 with ESU year 1 as a future adoption for October 2026; that dated listing does not confirm that adoption has since occurred. Does 0patch replace Microsoft Windows 10 ESU?

No. The services have different scope and delivery models. 0patch provides selected micropatches for adopted products; Microsoft says its consumer ESU program delivers monthly critical and important security updates to enrolled, eligible Windows 10 devices. Microsoft describes ESU as a temporary transition measure, not a source of feature updates or general technical support. Microsoft’s current guidance says eligible consumer devices can be protected through October 12, 2027. Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support guidance Microsoft’s ESU licensing preparation guidance

Windows 10 version 22H2 reached the end of standard support on October 14, 2025. If your computer is eligible and you need more time to move to a supported system, check Microsoft’s ESU enrollment requirements and current terms rather than assuming that installing 0patch enrolls the PC or supplies Microsoft updates.

What are 0patch’s limitations?

Micropatching cannot address every vulnerability or security-related functional problem. 0patch says issues that require major redesign or new functionality—such as implementing a new cryptographic algorithm—may be beyond what a micropatch can fix. It warns that such gaps can accumulate over time. 0patch’s explanation of long-term protection limits

To reduce exposure on a legacy device, 0patch recommends practical network precautions: use a firewall, limit accessible ports, segment the network where possible, and take care with downloaded applications. These measures reduce some risks; they do not turn an unsupported operating system into a fully maintained one.

How can you check whether 0patch is relevant to your PC?

  1. Identify the Windows edition and build. Confirm whether the PC is running Windows 10 22H2 and note whether it receives Microsoft ESU updates. Coverage depends on the installed system, not just the Windows 10 name.
  2. Install the 0patch Agent and register an account. 0patch says an initial scan can show patches relevant to a registered computer before purchase.
  3. Review the scan results and license labels. Some patches are marked “AVAILABLE” and require PRO or ENTERPRISE rather than the free license. Relevance depends on installed software, Windows updates, and 0patch’s evolving patch set.
  4. Check current terms before paying. An October 30, 2025 0patch help page said it planned to provide Windows 10 22H2 patches for at least five years and quoted €25 or €35 per computer per year, depending on management and enterprise features. Those are dated vendor statements, not independently verified current coverage or pricing; confirm the current license, price, and exact coverage with 0patch. Is 0patch a good choice for your Windows 10 computer?

Consider it a supplementary layer if you must keep a compatible Windows 10 PC in service and its scan identifies patches that matter to your installed software. It is not a way to receive Microsoft’s full operating-system maintenance, and the available documentation does not establish independent comparative effectiveness or compatibility on every individual machine. If your computer qualifies for ESU, weigh that official transition option separately; for a longer-term solution, check whether the PC can run Windows 11 or plan a replacement.
