John Koudounis, president and CEO of Calamos Investments, has said he believes Bitcoin will reach $1 million. But the firm date implied by the headline is uncertain: after a December 2025 report framed his remarks as a prediction for 2030, Koudounis said at a 2026 panel that he did not know whether Bitcoin would reach that price in 2030 or 2031.
What did John Koudounis say about Bitcoin reaching $1 million?
At a Bitcoin MENA panel in Abu Dhabi, Koudounis was asked about Bitcoin’s value in five years. GreekReporter.com reported on December 11, 2025, that he replied, “I can see it at one million.” The report characterized that as a forecast that Bitcoin would reach $1 million by 2030. GreekReporter.com’s account of the Abu Dhabi panel is the source for that quotation.
At a later Bitcoin 2026 panel in Las Vegas, Koudounis reaffirmed the price target but made the timing less definite: “I don’t know if it’s 2030. I don’t know if it’s 2031.” He added, “But I absolutely believe it gets there.” The Bitcoin 2026 event page provides the panel transcript and dates the panel April 28, 2026.

Is $1 million by 2030 a firm prediction?
No. The 2030 framing comes from the December 2025 report’s interpretation of the Abu Dhabi exchange. In his later on-record remarks, Koudounis said he believed Bitcoin would reach $1 million but did not know whether it would happen in 2030 or 2031. The more precise account is that he expressed confidence in the long-term price target while qualifying the deadline.

That is a personal forecast, not evidence that Bitcoin will reach the target. The cited remarks do not establish the assumptions behind it, its probability, or a reliable timetable. Neither source independently verifies a future Bitcoin price.
Who is John Koudounis?
Koudounis is president and CEO of Calamos Investments, according to the company’s official leadership biography. Calamos also says it has launched a suite of Bitcoin ETFs designed with downside-protection features. That company context may help explain why his comments attract attention, but it does not independently validate the forecast or establish whether a particular investment is suitable.

What Calamos says about its protected Bitcoin ETFs
In a July 2025 release, Calamos described three strategies with stated downside-protection levels of 100%, 90%, and 80% over a one-year period. These are the company’s descriptions of its own products, not independent performance assessments. The cited release alone does not provide enough current detail to compare their full terms, costs, eligibility, liquidity, tax treatment, or upside limitations. Calamos’ press releases
What should investors take from the forecast?
A headline price target does not settle whether or how to invest. Direct Bitcoin ownership and an ETF are different exposure routes, and a product described as downside-protected has its own defined terms and limits. Before making a decision, consult current fund documents and consider the risks and features relevant to your circumstances; do not treat Koudounis’s opinion as a guarantee or as a substitute for that assessment.
