Choose C4 Original only when you want less caffeine while staying with the C4 line; it is not caffeine-free. Current C4 listings show different amounts for some variants, so use the label on the exact tub as the final authority. For a caffeine-free workout, select a product whose current Supplement Facts panel explicitly declares zero caffeine and check the entire ingredient list for other stimulants. No specific competitor can be named here because a current, label-verified caffeine-free alternative was not established.
The C4 options at a glance
Comparing caffeine per labeled serving is the fastest way to separate a lower-caffeine choice from a caffeine-free one. The figures below come from current Cellucor product listings accessed in 2026. They describe the labeled serving, not the amount you will consume if you use a partial scoop, a second serving, or another caffeinated product the same day.
| Product or listing | Caffeine per labeled serving | What that means for your goal |
|---|---|---|
| C4 Ultimate | 300 mg | High among the C4 listings considered; not a lower-caffeine or caffeine-free pick. |
| C4 Original (one current Cellucor page) | 150 mg | The relevant lower-caffeine C4 route on that listing, but still caffeinated. |
| C4 Original (separate current variant listing) | 200 mg | Shows why you must verify the exact flavor, size, and package rather than relying on the product family name. |
| C4 Sport | 200 mg | Caffeinated and not lower than the 150 mg Original listing; the page also makes an NSF Certified for Sport claim. |
The practical answer is therefore two-part: use the 150 mg C4 Original listing only if your package confirms that amount and you accept caffeine; use neither C4 Original nor C4 Sport when your requirement is zero caffeine. “Lower caffeine” and “caffeine-free” are different specifications.
Why the C4 Original numbers do not match
Two current Cellucor listings identify C4 Original differently: one says 150 mg per serving and another variant listing says 200 mg. That is not a harmless detail. A different flavor, regional formula, container size, or updated package can change both the serving size and the stimulant amount.

Before buying, match all of the following between the web page and the tub in your hand:
- Exact product name, including words such as “Sport,” “Ultimate,” or a flavor designation.
- Serving size in scoops and grams.
- Caffeine amount in the Supplement Facts panel.
- Net weight and the number of servings.
- Country or region of sale, because formulas and labeling can differ.
- Lot or package date when the manufacturer supplies one.
If the tub disagrees with a retailer page, use the current package label and ask the manufacturer to clarify the discrepancy. Do not average the figures or assume the lower number applies to every C4 Original container.
When C4 Original is the right lower-caffeine alternative
Use it for a smaller dose, not for elimination
The current 150 mg Original listing is the only C4 path in the supplied product information that is lower than the 300 mg Ultimate serving. It remains a caffeinated supplement. Cellucor’s own warning says the product should not be used by people trying to eliminate caffeine, or combined with caffeine or stimulants from coffee, tea, soda, other dietary supplements, or medications.

That warning changes how you should plan a serving. Count caffeine from the entire day rather than treating the powder in isolation. If you drink coffee before training, use an energy drink later, or take a medicine that contains caffeine or a stimulant, the total exposure is not represented by the C4 number alone. A pharmacist or qualified healthcare professional can help identify medicines and combinations that matter for you.
Confirm the serving before measuring
A label amount applies to the labeled serving. Half a scoop may deliver roughly half the listed powder, but you should not assume exact proportionality unless the label gives a per-scoop amount and your measuring method is consistent. A heaped scoop, a different scoop supplied in another container, or a revised formula can change the dose. Weighing the serving according to the package directions is more reliable than estimating by volume.
Do not select C4 Sport as a lower-than-Original substitute
C4 Sport’s current page lists 200 mg per serving. That can be relevant if you need the Sport formula or its stated NSF Certified for Sport status, but it is not a lower-caffeine choice than the 150 mg Original listing. Certification and caffeine quantity answer different questions: one concerns a product’s sport-certification claim, while the other concerns stimulant dose.

What “caffeine-free” must mean
Require an explicit zero on the current label
For a genuinely caffeine-free workout, look for a current Supplement Facts panel that explicitly states zero caffeine or otherwise shows no caffeine ingredient and no caffeine amount. Marketing terms such as “pump,” “non-energy,” or “stim-free” are not enough by themselves. Packaging can change, and a product can use a different formula under a familiar name.

Read the full ingredient list even after finding a zero-caffeine statement. Look for named stimulants or botanical sources that may be intended to increase stimulation. If an ingredient is unfamiliar, check with the manufacturer or a qualified clinician instead of inferring its effect from the front label.
Why there is no named product recommendation here
No competing caffeine-free pre-workout in the available product information has a current, verified label that can support a specific recommendation. That is a useful boundary, not a reason to guess. You can still apply the label process to any product you are considering: verify zero caffeine on the exact package, inspect every ingredient, and confirm that the serving size matches the amount you plan to take.
Separate caffeine-free from stimulant-free
A product can omit caffeine yet contain another stimulant. Conversely, a product may contain no stimulants but still include ingredients marketed for hydration, flavor, or a “pump” sensation. Your decision should follow the outcome you need:
- No caffeine: the label must show zero caffeine.
- No stimulants: the ingredient panel must be checked for caffeine and other stimulant ingredients.
- Sport certification: verify the certification mark and the exact product independently; certification does not automatically mean caffeine-free.
A label-checking procedure that works for any alternative
- Photograph the package. Capture the front, Supplement Facts, other ingredients, directions, warnings, and any certification mark. This preserves the exact version you evaluated.
- Identify the serving. Record scoop count and grams. Do not compare a two-scoop serving with a one-scoop serving without converting the basis.
- Find caffeine. Search the Supplement Facts panel for “caffeine,” then check proprietary blends and botanical ingredients for possible caffeine sources.
- Check the amount. Write down milligrams per labeled serving and, if provided, per scoop. Treat a missing amount as unresolved rather than assuming zero.
- Scan for additional stimulants. Flag ingredients described as stimulants, energy enhancers, or stimulant botanicals. Ask the manufacturer for clarification when the role or quantity is not clear.
- Read warnings and directions. Note age limits, combination warnings, and any instruction to consult a healthcare professional.
- Match the exact SKU. Confirm flavor, country, package size, and product suffix. A page for one C4 variant cannot verify another.
- Recheck before each purchase. Formulas and labels can change. Save the package date and compare the new panel with the old one.
This process prevents the most common error in the category: treating a familiar product name as proof of a familiar formula.
How to compare alternatives beyond caffeine
Caffeine is the first comparison axis because it determines whether the product meets your stated goal. After that, compare the rest of the panel in a fixed order so a low number does not distract you from a different concern.

| Comparison question | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| What is the serving? | Scoops and grams | Amounts are not comparable when serving bases differ. |
| Is caffeine present? | Milligrams and ingredient source | Determines lower-caffeine versus caffeine-free status. |
| Are other stimulants present? | Name, quantity, and blend status | A zero-caffeine claim does not by itself establish stimulant-free status. |
| What else is in the formula? | Full Supplement Facts and other-ingredient panels | Reveals ingredients, allergens, sweeteners, and quantities relevant to your preferences. |
| Is certification claimed? | Exact mark and product identity | Lets athletes verify the certification for the product they actually bought. |
| What do the directions say? | Timing, maximum serving, and warnings | Prevents accidental use outside the manufacturer’s instructions. |
Do not treat a proprietary blend as equivalent to a fully disclosed formula. If the total blend weight is listed but individual quantities are not, you cannot precisely compare each ingredient with another product.
Using the NSF Certified for Sport claim correctly
The current C4 Sport page states that it is NSF Certified for Sport. That claim may matter to athletes whose organization requires certified supplements, but it does not change the listed caffeine amount and does not establish that the product is caffeine-free. Certification is also product-specific: verify the exact name, flavor, and package rather than assuming every product in the C4 family carries the same status.
When a governing body, team, or event has its own prohibited-substance policy, follow that policy and the certifier’s current database. A front-of-pack logo is not a substitute for checking the exact product record.

If you choose a caffeinated C4 product, write down every caffeine source you expect to use that day. Include coffee, tea, soda, energy products, supplements, and medicines. Then decide whether the pre-workout serving is necessary or whether another source already fills that role. This simple inventory addresses the combination warning printed on C4 Original.
Use the package directions rather than increasing the scoop because a workout feels harder than expected. If you are changing from a higher-caffeine product, make one change at a time so you can identify which product or dose causes an unwanted response. Stop and seek professional advice for concerning symptoms instead of trying to counter them with another supplement.
A lower-caffeine product is still unsuitable for someone instructed to avoid caffeine. The word “lower” describes a comparison with another serving; it does not describe zero exposure.

Planning a caffeine-free workout
Choose the product by label, not by category name
Start with the exact package you can buy, not a search result or a retailer’s headline. Confirm zero caffeine in the current panel, then review other stimulants and the warnings. Save a photograph so you can check that a later purchase has not changed.
Use a non-supplement baseline
Keep the first caffeine-free session otherwise familiar: the same training time, warm-up, hydration plan, and meal pattern you normally tolerate. Changing several variables at once makes it difficult to tell whether a new product agrees with you. This is a way to evaluate your routine, not a promise that any supplement will improve performance.
Do not infer effectiveness from a sensation
A tingling feeling, strong flavor, or “pump” wording does not prove that a product is caffeine-free, stimulant-free, or effective for your goal. Judge the formula by its disclosed ingredients and your own response, while recognizing that the manufacturer’s copy is not independent evidence that every user will experience a particular performance effect.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Safety checks before using any C4 product
Cellucor’s current C4 Ultimate information advises consulting a qualified healthcare professional in several circumstances and before combining supplements or medicines. Follow that caution if you have a medical condition, take prescription or over-the-counter medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under the product’s stated age, or are unsure how a stimulant fits your situation.
- Do not combine a C4 serving with other caffeine or stimulant products unless a qualified professional has told you the combination is appropriate.
- Follow the package’s maximum serving and timing instructions.
- Do not use an old label to judge a newly purchased tub.
- Keep the container available so a clinician can review the exact ingredients and amounts.
- Stop using the product and obtain medical help for severe or unusual symptoms.
This guidance is general information, not individualized medical advice. A clinician or pharmacist can account for your health history, medicines, and total daily intake.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Mistake: calling C4 Original caffeine-free
Correction: The product warning explicitly says it contains caffeine. Use it only for a lower-caffeine objective when your exact label confirms the amount.

Mistake: assuming every C4 Original tub has the same dose
Correction: Current listings show both 150 mg and 200 mg variants. Match the package details and serving size before comparing.
Mistake: choosing C4 Sport because “Sport” sounds lighter
Correction: Its current listing reports 200 mg per serving. The sport designation and NSF claim do not make it caffeine-free or lower than the 150 mg Original listing.
Mistake: trusting “stim-free” without reading the panel
Correction: Require an explicit zero-caffeine statement and inspect the entire ingredient list for other stimulants.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Correction: Put every product on the same basis—milligrams per labeled serving—and record whether that serving is one scoop or more.
Mistake: treating a historical label as today’s formula
Correction: Use older records for context only; verify the current package you will consume.
A decision tree for choosing your next pre-workout
- Do you need zero caffeine? If yes, reject every product whose current label lists caffeine, including C4 Original and C4 Sport, and continue only with a label that explicitly states zero.
- Do you want to remain within C4 but reduce the listed amount? Compare the exact C4 Original package with your current product. The 150 mg listing is the lower option identified here, while another Original variant lists 200 mg.
- Do you require sports certification? Verify the exact product’s certification independently. The C4 Sport page makes an NSF Certified for Sport claim, but its caffeine listing remains 200 mg.
- Is the label unclear? Do not buy on assumption. Contact the manufacturer, request the current Supplement Facts panel, and reassess once the serving and caffeine amounts are confirmed.
- Are medicines, medical conditions, or multiple stimulants involved? Ask a qualified healthcare professional before selecting or combining products.
What the historical NIH label record can—and cannot—tell you
The NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database contains a C4 Ultimate Cotton Candy label entry whose contents were entered on June 24, 2020. That record can help you understand what an older package reported, but it is not a substitute for the current label on a 2026 purchase. Product formulas, serving sizes, and warnings may be revised after a database entry is created.
When an archived record and a current package disagree, use the package you will actually consume and document the difference. This is especially important for products sold in multiple variants or regions.
