As of October 7, 2026, the latest reported results show opposite revenue trends: C3.ai’s Q1 FY2027 revenue fell about 25.5% year over year to $52.4 million, while Lumentum’s Q4 FY2026 revenue rose 109.3% to $1,006.3 million. The periods ended on different dates, and the companies sell different kinds of products, so the figures are useful for comparing reported momentum and scale—not for treating the businesses as direct competitors.

What do the latest revenue results show?

Company and period Quarter ended Reported revenue Year-over-year change
C3.ai, Q1 FY2027 July 31, 2026 $52.4 million Down about 25.5% from $70.3 million
Lumentum, Q4 FY2026 June 27, 2026 $1,006.3 million Up 109.3% from $480.7 million

The percentages above are calculated or reported against each company’s respective year-earlier quarter; they are not a matched-period comparison. C3.ai’s fiscal year ends April 30, while Lumentum’s FY2026 ended June 27. The latest reported quarters therefore cover different calendar windows.

The contrast is clear on two separate measures: Lumentum reported far more revenue, and its latest quarter grew sharply; C3.ai reported a smaller revenue base that declined year over year. Neither measure alone explains profitability, valuation, or investment suitability.

How is C3.ai revenue trending?

C3.ai reported $52.4 million in total revenue for Q1 FY2027, compared with $70.3 million in Q1 FY2026. That is approximately a 25.5% decrease based on the reported amounts. Subscription revenue was $49.2 million, or 94% of the latest quarter’s total, consistent with its enterprise software business.

Company Chairman and CEO Thomas M. Siebel characterized the quarter by saying, “Revenue has stabilized, free cash flow is positive, operating loss has narrowed, and Forrester Research named C3 AI a leader in Enterprise AI.” This is management’s assessment; the revenue comparison itself shows a year-over-year decline.

Guidance is not a reported result

On September 2, 2026, C3.ai issued FY2027 revenue guidance of $210 million to $240 million. This is management’s forward-looking range, not revenue already earned. It should be kept separate from the $52.4 million reported for Q1.

Lumentum’s FY2026 revenue included $2,005.6 million from Components and $1,008.4 million from Systems. Components was the larger category. These figures describe product-type revenue; they do not, by themselves, establish which end markets caused the growth.

Is Lumentum’s growth because of AI?

The reported revenue figures establish strong growth, but they do not fully explain its drivers. The available company disclosures do not establish how much of the increase came specifically from AI-related demand, nor do they fully detail demand, customer, pricing, or end-market factors. It would therefore be too strong to attribute the entire increase to AI.

The same caution applies in reverse: C3.ai’s year-over-year revenue decline does not alone explain demand for its products or the reasons for the change. Revenue results describe what each company reported, not a complete account of why it happened.

How should investors compare the two companies?

C3.ai describes an enterprise application software business. Lumentum reports Components and Systems revenue. They participate in different parts of the broader technology landscape, so their raw revenue totals are not a like-for-like competitive comparison.

  • Direction: C3.ai’s latest reported quarter declined year over year; Lumentum’s more than doubled.
  • Scale: Lumentum’s reported quarterly revenue was much larger, but company size by revenue is not a growth rate or a valuation measure.
  • Mix: C3.ai reported that subscriptions made up 94% of Q1 FY2027 revenue. Lumentum reported FY2026 revenue across Components and Systems, with Components contributing more.
  • Period: Compare each company with its own year-earlier period, while noting the different fiscal calendars and quarter-end dates.
  • Forward view: Treat C3.ai’s FY2027 range as guidance, not realized revenue.

These disclosures do not establish either company’s valuation or whether its stock is appropriate for a particular investor. A revenue comparison is one input, not a complete investment analysis.
