No—Samsung has not confirmed a switch from One UI to Galaxy OS. Official 2026 announcements still call the software One UI, while reports about a possible Galaxy OS name change remain unverified. Samsung has announced One UI 9 for newer Galaxy devices, but that is an update rollout, not evidence of a rebrand.
What Samsung has officially announced
One UI 9 is the confirmed next release
Samsung Mobile Press announced the expansion of One UI 9, beginning with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung says availability can differ by country, region, language, device model, and the Android or One UI version already installed. That wording describes a staged, device-specific rollout—not a new operating-system name.
Samsung’s earlier One UI 8 announcement also presents One UI as the software experience used across Galaxy phones and tablets. No official announcement supplied for this story says that One UI is being replaced by “Galaxy OS.”
Samsung’s own 2026 product documentation still says One UI
Samsung Electronics’ 2026 first-quarter interim report lists the Galaxy S26 family with Android 16 and One UI 8.5. That is important because it is formal product documentation published after the Galaxy OS speculation began: Samsung is still pairing its current flagship hardware with the One UI name.

Why the Galaxy OS story is circulating
March reports described testing, not a naming decision
Secondary coverage in March 2026 reported alleged early testing of One UI 9. Those reports attributed the information to SamMobile and tipster Max Jambor. Testing evidence can indicate that Samsung is preparing software, but it cannot establish that the company has approved a public rebrand. A test build called One UI 9 is also not the same thing as a consumer product announced as Galaxy OS.
September coverage focused on timing
Other reports in September 2026 described an alleged change to the One UI 9 rollout schedule and referred to a broad September window. That coverage concerns when an update might arrive. It does not provide evidence that Samsung changed the product name.

Confirmed facts versus the Galaxy OS rumor
| Question | What the available evidence shows | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| What is Samsung calling the software? | Samsung’s official announcements use the name One UI, including One UI 8 and One UI 9. | One UI remains the confirmed public brand. |
| What is One UI 9? | An announced rollout beginning with Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, with availability varying by market, language, model and installed software. | It is a version update, not a confirmed operating-system replacement. |
| What software ships on the Galaxy S26 family in Samsung’s 2026 report? | Android 16 with One UI 8.5. | Samsung’s formal hardware documentation still uses One UI. |
| What supports the Galaxy OS claim? | Secondary reports about alleged testing and rollout timing; no supplied Samsung naming announcement. | The rebrand remains a rumor. |
Will your Galaxy phone get One UI 9?
Galaxy S26 series
The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra are the first devices named in Samsung’s One UI 9 expansion announcement. Even for those models, Samsung cautions that delivery varies by country, region, language, model and the software version installed. Two owners of the same phone can therefore see the update at different times.

Galaxy S25 and older models
The available announcement does not provide a complete list of every eligible Galaxy phone. It names the S26 series as the starting point, but it does not establish a universal One UI 9 schedule for the Galaxy S25 family or earlier devices. Treat online compatibility lists as provisional unless Samsung confirms the model and market directly.

Is this a rename or simply a major update?
At present, the evidence supports the second interpretation. One UI 9 is a numbered release in the same naming line Samsung has used for One UI 8. The Android base and the Samsung interface name are separate layers: Samsung’s product report identifies Android 16 as the underlying platform and One UI 8.5 as Samsung’s interface version. A future “Galaxy OS” label would be a branding decision that Samsung would need to announce explicitly; a new version number or a test build does not prove one.
Should you update immediately or wait?
Update when the official package appears if you want the supported release
When Samsung delivers an update through your phone’s built-in Software update screen, it is the authoritative package for that model and market. Back up important data, install with adequate battery and Wi-Fi, and check the listed version before confirming. The exact arrival date can differ because Samsung is distributing One UI 9 in stages.

Wait if the only evidence is a leak
Do not install files advertised as “Galaxy OS” from unofficial download links solely because a post cites a tester or a tipster. The reports currently available do not show a Samsung release under that name. Waiting for an on-device notification or a Samsung announcement avoids confusing an experimental build, a regional schedule change, or a mislabeled download with a finished product.
What would confirm a real Galaxy OS rebrand?
Look for a Samsung statement that explicitly names Galaxy OS, updated product pages or support documentation that replace One UI, and a rollout notice identifying the new name across specific Galaxy models and regions. Until those appear together, the reliable description is Android with Samsung’s One UI interface, moving from the current 8.x releases toward One UI 9.
