Queensland Country Bank calls Building & Contents Plus its highest level of home cover available when getting a quote. It lists protection for events including fire, theft, flood and storms, but those headline features are subject to policy terms—and the available information does not establish the price or whether Plus is good value for a particular home.

The policy is issued by Insurance Australia Limited under the CGU brand and arranged by Queensland Country Bank under an agreement. The bank’s Financial Services Guide says the insurance contract is with the insurer, not the bank, and that the bank is not responsible for the insurer’s contract performance. Queensland Country Bank also says its advice is general, not tailored to your objectives, financial situation or needs.

What does Building & Contents Plus cover?

The bank’s home and contents page describes a combined policy and highlights these features. They are not a substitute for the policy wording: exclusions, limits and conditions apply, and the precise circumstances in which a claim is covered depend on the contract.

  • Building repair or rebuilding: The bank says CGU pays to repair or rebuild a home up to its insured amount after damage caused by a covered event.
  • Fire and bushfire: Fire is among the listed covered-event categories.
  • Theft and vandalism: The page includes theft and vandalism, including stolen keys.
  • Weather and water events: Listed events include flood, rainwater run-off, storm, storm surge and tsunami. The page explicitly says actions of the sea, such as tides and waves, are not covered.
  • Temporary accommodation: The bank lists help if a covered event makes the home unliveable. The amount and availability depend on circumstances, including whether you are an owner-occupier, tenant or strata resident, and are subject to reasonable-cost language and limits.
  • Emergency repairs: The page advertises 24/7 emergency repair assistance for urgent repairs after a covered event.
  • Visitors’ belongings: Up to $2,500 for visitors’ belongings, excluding money, after a covered event at the home.
  • Legal liability: The page advertises cover up to $20 million in some situations. Building liability applies at the home; contents liability away from home is limited to within Australia.
  • Repair workmanship: CGU offers a lifetime guarantee on workmanship for authorised home repairs, according to the bank.

These are headline descriptions, not a complete list of covered items or events. For example, the word “flood” alone does not establish that every kind of water damage is covered. Check the current policy wording for definitions, exclusions, claim conditions and applicable limits.

Does Queensland Country Bank home insurance cover floods?

The bank lists flood cover and separately names rainwater run-off, storm, storm surge and tsunami as covered-event categories. It also states: “CGU don’t cover actions of the sea, such as tides and waves.” That distinction matters for coastal properties: the listed storm-surge or tsunami cover should not be read as cover for every effect of the sea. Ask the insurer how the current policy wording defines the event affecting your property.

Does it cover rebuilding if my home is underinsured?

The bank describes building cover as repair or rebuilding up to the insured amount. That makes choosing an appropriate building sum insured important. Its 2025 home-insurance guidance recommends checking rebuild estimates, keeping a contents inventory, and reviewing whether contents are insured for replacement value or value at the time of loss. It presents a formal property valuation every 1–3 years as a prudent guide, not a policy requirement or a universally applicable interval.

CHOICE’s 2026 comparison describes Queensland Country Bank Home Buildings and Contents Plus as a sum-insured policy with a 25% building underinsurance safety net. That is CHOICE’s comparison finding; it has not been confirmed here against the current CGU policy wording. Before relying on a safety net, check the current PDS for how it applies, what conditions or exclusions govern it, and whether it changes the insured amount available for your claim.

What’s the difference between Building & Contents Plus and Standard?

The bank identifies Plus as its highest level of cover when getting a quote, but the available product information does not set out a complete Plus-versus-Standard benefit comparison. It is therefore not possible to say which specific benefits Plus adds, or whether a particular benefit is exclusive to Plus, on the information available here. Compare the current PDS and any policy guide for both options, including limits, exclusions, excesses and optional benefits, before choosing.

How much does Queensland Country Bank home insurance cost?

No current premium, address-specific eligibility, selected excess or quote is established here. Your price needs to come from a quote based on your property and chosen settings; a general product description cannot show whether the policy is affordable for your circumstances.

For a useful comparison, request quotes using the same address, building and contents sums insured, excess, options and cover requirements. Compare the resulting premium alongside the policy wording—not in isolation. The bank links a premium, excess and discount guide, but its detailed CGU documents were not accessible for this assessment, so no current premium ranges or discount terms can be stated.

Is Queensland Country Bank home insurance good value?

The available product details are enough to identify several headline cover categories, but not to make a sound value judgment. Value depends on the price quoted for your property and on whether the current terms match the risks and belongings you need to insure. The bank’s page does not establish that Plus is cheaper or better than alternatives, and no like-for-like quote was verified.

Before deciding, compare the following points in the current documents and quotes:

  • The building sum-insured basis and any applicable underinsurance safety net.
  • Definitions for flood, rainwater run-off, storm surge and coastal water.
  • How contents are valued, item limits, and the scope of cover away from home.
  • Temporary accommodation conditions and legal liability terms.
  • Exclusions, waiting periods and excesses.
  • The premium for your location and chosen sums, excess and options.
