Hiero SDKs are language-specific libraries for building applications that interact with Hiero-based networks. The official repositories surfaced here document SDKs for JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, and Rust; they are examples, not a definitive list of every language supported by the broader ecosystem. Choose the SDK that fits your application’s language and runtime, then follow its current official quickstart for installation and testing.

What a Hiero SDK does

An SDK gives an application a language-specific software interface for working with a Hiero-based network. The JavaScript repository describes its library as “The JavaScript SDK for interacting with a Hiero based network.” Hiero is open-source, vendor-neutral distributed ledger technology used to build the Hedera public ledger, according to the Hiero documentation repository.

Which SDK fits your application?

Start with the language and target platform you already use. The four official repositories below expose different setup and testing workflows; compatibility details and instructions can change, so consult the linked repository before installing.

SDK Target and setup Testing notes
JavaScript/TypeScript Installs as @hiero-ledger/sdk using npm, Yarn, or pnpm. Repository guidance covers browser usage and Node.js development. It recommends Node.js v20 or higher for best performance and compatibility; Node.js v16 may work but is not officially tested. React Native Bare is not currently supported, and Expo has limitations for older versions. Unit tests do not require a local network; integration tests do. The repository documents Solo as a local-network option.
Java Separate quickstarts cover Java applications and Android applications, so use the one matching your target. The repository links developer setup, unit and integration tests, and network configuration.
Go The README documents installation with go get github.com/hiero-ledger/hiero-sdk-go/v2@latest. Examples and integration tests require Hiero network credentials.
Rust Check the repository for setup requirements, including Rust, protoc, and OpenSSL. The repository provides API documentation and test guidance; consult it for the current workflow.

Install the SDK and follow its quickstart

JavaScript or TypeScript

Use the JavaScript SDK repository for the current package-manager instructions and quickstart. Select npm, Yarn, or pnpm according to your project. Check the repository’s runtime and framework notes if you are targeting a browser, Node.js, React Native, or Expo rather than assuming they share identical support.

Plan your testing workflow

Testing needs depend on the SDK and on whether a test exercises local code alone or communicates with a network. Unit tests can often run without network access, but examples and integration tests may require credentials or a local network. Check the language-specific repository rather than assuming a single testing setup applies to every SDK.

  • JavaScript: The repository says unit tests do not need a local network, while integration tests do. For a local JavaScript integration-test environment, it points to Solo, a Kubernetes-based local-network solution. Solo is an optional development and testing path, not a required end-user product.
  • Java: Use the repository’s test and network-configuration guidance to distinguish local unit tests from integration workflows.
  • Go: Examples and integration tests require Hiero network credentials, according to the README.
  • Rust: Consult the repository’s test guidance and prerequisites before running its tests.

The JavaScript repository’s Solo guidance lists macOS and Linux as supported platforms and directs Windows users to WSL2. Its memory guidance varies for single- and dual-node setups; check the current Solo instructions for the applicable requirements rather than treating them as SDK-wide prerequisites. See the Solo repository.
