To build a custom skill for Google Antigravity, create a skill directory, add a SKILL.md file with YAML frontmatter and focused instructions, then put the directory in the correct workspace or global location for your Antigravity surface. The required frontmatter includes a description that tells the agent what the skill does and when to use it. Supporting files are optional.
1. Create the skill folder and required file
For a skill that belongs to one project, create .agents/skills/<skill-name>/ beneath the workspace root. The folder must contain a file named SKILL.md; additional files do not replace it.
.agents/skills/my-skill/
└── SKILL.md
Start SKILL.md with YAML frontmatter. Google requires description; name is optional and defaults to the directory name. Use a unique lowercase name with hyphens between words. Write the description in third person and make it clear both what the skill does and when the agent should use it. Include terms a user might use to request the task so the agent can recognize relevant requests.

---
# Prepare release notes
1. Review the merged changes for the release.
2. Group user-facing changes by type.
3. Draft concise notes and check them for accuracy.
The example shows the file shape, not a universal skill: replace its name, purpose, and procedure with the one job your skill is meant to perform. Keep the body actionable, with concrete steps, conventions, checks, and decision points. For complex work, a decision tree can help the agent choose the right approach.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Choose where Antigravity should find the skill
Workspace skills are suitable for project-specific instructions that can be shared or versioned with the project. Global skills are for personal use across workspaces. The global path depends on the surface; do not assume that an IDE location also works in the CLI.
| Antigravity surface | Workspace skill location | Global skill location |
|---|---|---|
| Antigravity 2.0 | <workspace-root>/.agents/skills/<skill-folder>/ |
~/.gemini/config/skills/<skill-folder>/ |
| Standalone Antigravity IDE | <workspace-root>/.agents/skills/<skill-folder>/ |
~/.gemini/config/skills/<skill-folder>/ |
| Antigravity CLI | <workspace-root>/.agents/skills/<skill-folder>/ |
~/.gemini/antigravity-cli/skills/<skill-folder>/ |
| CLI plugin bundle | Plugin-provided location under ~/.gemini/antigravity-cli/plugins/<name>/skills/; manage it with agy plugin. |
|
These paths are documented in Google Antigravity’s Agent Skills documentation. Google also notes backward compatibility for .agent/skills and continued support for the legacy IDE global path ~/.gemini/antigravity/skills/. For new IDE or Antigravity 2.0 skills, prefer the currently documented .agents/skills and ~/.gemini/config/skills locations.

There is a documented installer distinction to keep in mind: Google’s Antigravity Codelab says the npx skills tool installs to ~/.agents/skills, which Antigravity IDE can see, but Antigravity CLI cannot. For CLI use, put the skill in the workspace’s .agents/skills/ directory or the CLI global location above. Check current behavior before relying on a third-party installer’s default.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →3. Add supporting files only when they help
A skill can include scripts, examples, schemas, templates, and longer reference material alongside SKILL.md. Use subdirectories such as scripts/, examples/, references/, or resources/ when they make the bundle easier to maintain. Keep the main instructions readable and tell the agent when to consult a helper file.

For skills that include scripts, Google recommends treating those scripts as black boxes and instructing the agent to run --help first rather than loading all of the source into context. Avoid adding assets that do not serve the skill’s task.
4. Confirm discovery and invoke the skill
Antigravity can select a skill autonomously when its description matches a user’s request. You can also invoke a skill explicitly with /<skill-name>. In Antigravity CLI’s interactive TUI, skills are converted into slash commands. For IDE/2.0, inspect active skills from the Customizations menu.

To verify a new skill, use a request that clearly matches its description or invoke its slash command, then check that the agent follows the procedure and any relevant decision points in SKILL.md. If it is not available, first check that the directory is under the location for the surface you are using and that the required file and frontmatter are present.
5. Load skills through the Antigravity SDK
When constructing an agent with the Antigravity SDK, configure LocalAgentConfig(skills_paths=[...]). A path can point directly to a directory containing SKILL.md or to a parent directory containing multiple skill subdirectories. The SDK documentation illustrates setting skills_paths before entering the agent context; see Google’s Agent SDK documentation for the integration details.

6. Convert an existing workflow into a skill
Google documents an automatic /migrate-workflows command. It scans global and workspace workflow locations, creates skill bundles, archives original workflow files with a .bak suffix, and activates the resulting skills. Review the generated skills afterward to ensure their descriptions, instructions, and supporting files fit the intended task.
The manual alternative is to create a skill directory, move or adapt the workflow Markdown into SKILL.md, add standardized name and description frontmatter, and extract scripts or lengthy references when useful. Then invoke the new skill to verify it.
Google’s migration documentation currently states that existing workflows stop working on October 19, 2026; after that date, legacy workflow directories will no longer be indexed or executable by slash command. Because this is a near-term cutoff and may change, check the current workflow migration documentation before relying on the deadline.
