Use Wave as a repeatable bookkeeping routine: set up the records you need, invoice customers, capture business spending, review imported bank activity, and check your financial reports. The exact features available depend on your account, plan, and country, so confirm eligibility before building a workflow around payments, receipt scanning, or payroll.
How should you set up Wave for your business?
Start with the dashboard for an overview, then use the account menu’s shortcuts to create the records you need—such as customers, vendors, products or services, estimates, invoices, bills, and transactions. Wave groups its work areas under Sales & Payments, Purchases, Receipts, Accounting, Banking, Payroll, and Reports. The account layout and some features can differ between web and mobile. Wave’s account overview describes the available areas and feature conditions.
Set up only the records relevant to the business. For example, a service business may need customer and service records, invoices, expenses, and bank activity; a business that receives bills from vendors will also want vendor and bill records. Consistent records make later categorization and reporting easier to review.

Send it from the web interface

- Select Send, review the recipient, and edit the subject or message if needed.
- Choose whether to send yourself a copy and whether to attach a PDF or other files, then send.
Wave says businesses can send invoices through Wave if they subscribe to Pro, accept online payments, or use payroll. Your account may not have the same sending options as another business’s account. Check the current account and plan details before relying on Wave’s email flow. See Wave’s instructions for sending an invoice.
Should you accept payments through Wave?
Wave can add credit-card and bank-payment options to invoices, and it says related bookkeeping is handled automatically. Whether a particular method is available—and what it costs—depends on payment type, account terms, and country. Check the live payment terms for your location before enabling online payments or quoting a processing cost to customers.

How do you import and review bank transactions?
Wave describes two routes for bringing bank activity into the account: connecting a bank for automatic imports, or uploading a statement. Availability of a bank connection depends on the bank and account circumstances. Wave Connect also supports selected spreadsheet imports and exports, including customers, products, invoices, journal transactions, and bank transactions. Wave’s help resources outline bank imports and Wave Connect.
- Choose a bank connection if your bank and account support it; otherwise, use a statement upload or an applicable spreadsheet workflow.
- Review each imported transaction against the bank activity and supporting records.
- Assign the transaction to the appropriate account in your chart of accounts.
- Reconcile the account so the records agree with the bank statement.
Importing data does not remove the need to check it. Incorrect categories, duplicates, or missing transactions can affect reports, so review the imported entries rather than treating the import as completed bookkeeping.

Wave’s plan comparison lists Starter and Pro and discusses Receipts, Payroll, and Advisors as plan-linked or add-on services. It also includes legacy-account and date-based eligibility language, so do not assume its feature descriptions apply identically to every account. Exact current subscription prices and a complete country-by-country availability list are not established here; check Wave’s current plan and payment terms for your location before choosing a workflow.
What should you know about payroll and compliance?
Payroll is an account area, but payroll services and tax workflows depend on jurisdiction. Wave publishes separate resources for Canadian and US workflows; that does not establish that it handles every local filing or employer obligation. Confirm current Wave coverage for your country and check the relevant government requirements. Business structure and location also affect tax, record-retention, and filing responsibilities, so treat Wave as a bookkeeping tool rather than a substitute for jurisdiction-specific professional advice.
