A podcast intro generator is easiest to build as a small pipeline: collect show details, create an editable script, send the approved text to a text-to-speech service, then let the user preview and download the audio. Keep music mixing optional. This design separates writing decisions from voice generation, so creators can fix names, pronunciation, and tone before producing a file.
What the generator should do
Build the first version around four distinct stages: structured inputs, script drafting, speech generation, and audio review. The script should remain editable between drafting and synthesis. That gives the creator control over the words before generating audio and keeps the interface useful whether the draft is written by a person or generated automatically.
- Collect show details: ask for the podcast name, a short description or listener promise, preferred tone, and the host name if relevant. Ask whether the intro is evergreen or specific to an episode.
- Draft the script: use a short template or text-generation step, then show the result in an editable field.
- Generate speech: send the approved script to a text-to-speech endpoint and expose any supported voice choices.
- Return the result: provide audio playback and a download, with the output format clearly identified.
A browser-based tutorial demonstrates an illustrative version of this flow, including saving generated audio as an MP3; that is an example implementation, not a guarantee about every speech provider or endpoint: freeCodeCamp’s podcast intro generator tutorial.

Get the desired level via monitoring volume control when gaming recording. Smooth mic gain knob on the PC microphone gaming has some resistance to the point, easily for audio attenuation or boost presence to less post-production audio. (Only available for USB connection)
- Podcast name
- Host name, if the host should be introduced
- What the show offers or whom it serves
- Desired tone
- Whether the intro is reusable or episode-specific
For a reusable opening, leave out dates, guest names, and episode topics that will quickly become stale. For an episode-specific opening, make those details explicit inputs rather than silently inserting them. Keep the generated script short enough to serve the show without delaying it, but do not present a fixed number of seconds as a universal standard: the available guidance does not establish one.
Make the script editable before any audio generation. Users may need to correct a show name, adjust a promise that sounds too broad, or revise phrasing that a voice pronounces awkwardly. Keep the generated text visible alongside the audio controls so revisions are straightforward.

Choose a speech workflow and respect its limits
A focused text-to-speech endpoint is appropriate when your product needs to turn approved text into spoken audio. The OpenAI Audio API reference describes its speech endpoint as generating audio from input text, lists models and voices, and documents a 4096-character maximum for that endpoint’s input. Treat that as an endpoint constraint, not a general limit for other speech services.

The ElevenLabs Studio Create Podcast API reference documents an intro text field with a 1500-character maximum. That limit applies to the documented project field; it is not a recommendation for how long an intro should be.

| Option | Documented role | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI Audio speech endpoint | Generates speech from text; the reference lists models and voices. | 4096-character maximum for the documented speech input. Custom voice creation is separate and access is limited to eligible customers. |
| ElevenLabs Studio Create Podcast endpoint | Creates and converts a podcast project. | 1500-character maximum for the documented intro text field. |
These capabilities do not establish a like-for-like comparison of price, sound quality, latency, commercial rights, data retention, or regional availability. Check each provider’s current documentation and terms before choosing an integration or making claims to users.
Keep custom voices optional
Do not make voice cloning a prerequisite for using the generator. The OpenAI custom voices documentation describes creating a custom voice from an audio sample and a consent recording, and says the feature is limited to eligible customers. Build a standard selectable-voice path first; enable a custom-voice flow only when the provider confirms eligibility and the required consent process is in place.

Make preview and download part of the product
After synthesis, let the user listen before downloading. State the actual file format your implementation returns rather than implying that all providers return the same format. The tutorial above demonstrates MP3 output, while a separate browser-based example describes exporting a WAV after mixing; these are different workflows, not a universal format guarantee.
For a browser-side option, a Web Audio example describes mixing narration with user-provided music and exporting a WAV. It places responsibility for checking the music license on the user: Jellypod’s intro generator guidance. This can inform a local mixing workflow, but it does not clear music rights for publication.

Add music only as an optional stage
Music should not be required to generate a usable intro. If you support it, preserve a voice-only export and provide separate voice and music level controls so the narration can remain clear. Ask users to supply music they are entitled to use, and avoid suggesting that a file is cleared for podcast distribution merely because it can be uploaded or mixed.
Keep this stage separate from speech generation: first create and review the narration, then optionally combine it with a music bed. That division makes it easier to revise the spoken script without forcing the user to rebuild the entire mix.
Choose build versus ready-made by workflow needs
If a reader wants an intro without building an application, Jellypod’s product guidance describes editable scripts, generated voiceover and music, and broader paid podcast-production features: Jellypod intro generator. Check its current product page for available features and plans. A build makes more sense when you need a particular input form, approval flow, voice selection, or integration into an existing podcast workflow.

Quick Recap
Implementation checklist
- Separate evergreen and episode-specific inputs so reusable scripts do not accidentally contain temporary details.
- Keep a human-editable script between drafting and synthesis.
- Validate input against the selected endpoint’s documented limit.
- Offer ordinary voice selection independently of custom-voice eligibility.
- Make playback and a clearly labeled download available after generation.
- Keep music mixing optional, retain a voice-only result, and surface the user’s responsibility for music rights.
- Recheck provider documentation before launch because models, limits, features, and eligibility can change.
