Choose Buffer if your priority is scheduling content across channels, keeping collaboration simple, or starting with a free plan. Choose Agorapulse if your team needs a broader inbox for messages and reviews, social listening, or more customizable reporting. Their prices use different units—channels for Buffer and users for Agorapulse—so compare the cost of your actual setup, not just the starting figures.

Account for seats, profiles, and add-ons

  • Buffer’s free plan supports three channels, one user, and 10 scheduled posts per channel. When a post is published, that slot becomes available again.
  • Buffer Essentials includes one user. Team permits unlimited users and adds collaboration controls; the per-channel rate decreases at higher channel counts, according to Buffer’s help information.
  • Agorapulse’s paid plans include 10 profiles, according to Buffer’s comparison. Additional profiles are listed at $10 per month each.
  • The comparison lists X add-ons at $29 per profile for publishing, or $69 per profile for publishing, inbox, and reporting. Those add-on costs can materially change an Agorapulse estimate.

To compare fairly, count connected channels, users, profiles, and any required X or listening add-ons, then align the billing period. A low per-channel rate is not directly comparable with a per-user rate.

Which tool fits your work?

Creators and solo operators

Buffer is the more natural starting point if you want to schedule posts across a small number of channels and can work within the free plan’s user and scheduling limits. Essentials offers a paid path based on channels rather than seats.

Enterprise buyers

Buffer’s comparison says neither service is purpose-built for enterprise social operations, while noting that Agorapulse Custom offers some larger-team functions. That is Buffer’s assessment, not an independent market evaluation; enterprise buyers should validate security, governance, account coverage, and workflow requirements directly with each vendor.

What should you verify before subscribing?

  • Check whether your required social networks and account types are supported on the plan you are considering.
  • Confirm whether you need just publishing, or also inbox coverage for direct messages, reviews, and ad comments.
  • For Agorapulse, establish how many user seats and profiles you need and whether X or listening add-ons apply.
  • For Buffer, decide whether the free plan’s limits are workable or whether Essentials or Team features are necessary.
  • Compare prices using the same billing frequency; Buffer’s annual-billed monthly equivalents are not month-to-month prices.
  • Assess reporting against your actual needs, especially if you must deliver client reports or demonstrate ROI.
