There isn’t enough verified, current pricing and stock information to name five budget short-throw winners responsibly. The specifications do identify four candidates worth checking: the BenQ TH671ST and Optoma GT1080HDR have US product pages; the Optoma GT2000HDR is documented on a UK page; and ViewSonic’s refurbished PX706HD listing is out of stock. Start by checking whether a model fits your room, then confirm local price and availability.
First, make sure the projector fits your room
A short-throw projector is useful when you need a large image from a relatively short lens-to-screen distance. The key measurement is throw ratio: divide the distance from the projector lens to the screen by the projected image width. A lower ratio means the projector can make a given width from closer to the screen. The models below span roughly 0.49:1 to 0.83:1.
Measure the actual lens-to-screen distance and the image width you want, then confirm the result with the manufacturer’s specifications or calculator for the exact model. A diagonal measurement alone can mislead because throw distance is determined by image width. Also leave room for the projector body, cables, and any adjustment the installation needs.
Brightness is a separate question from throw. A high lumen specification does not guarantee a clear image in uncontrolled daylight; room light and screen conditions matter. Compare the manufacturers’ stated brightness figures as specifications, not as a promise of equal real-world performance.

Short-throw projectors to consider
BenQ TH671ST: flexible short throw with published gaming-lag data
BenQ lists native 1080p resolution, 3,000 ANSI lumens, a 0.69–0.83 throw ratio, and 1.1x zoom. The manufacturer says it can project a 100-inch image from five feet. Its listed low input lag is 16.7 ms, and the page reports 92% DCI-P3 coverage. BenQ describes the short-throw design as useful in rooms with limited distance and for reducing shadows cast onto the screen. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. See BenQ’s TH671ST specifications.
Optoma GT1080HDR: the lowest listed throw ratio among these lamp models
Optoma specifies 1080p Full HD, 3,800 lumens, and a 0.49:1 short-throw lens. It accepts 4K UHD and 1080p HDR input, but that input compatibility does not make its native resolution 4K: the listed resolution is 1080p. Enhanced Gaming Mode claims up to 8.4 ms response at 1080p/120Hz, so keep the resolution and refresh rate attached when comparing that figure with other models.
Rank #2
- 【1.1:1 Short Throw Ratio – Big Screen in Small Spaces】 Get a massive 100-inch image from just 2.44m (8 ft) away. Unlike long-throw mini projectors, this short throw portable projector fits apartments, dorms, or cozy bedrooms without rearranging furniture. True 1.1:1 ratio means you can place it on a coffee table or bookshelf and still enjoy giant, immersive visuals. Ideal for patios, balconies, or any tight space where you thought a big screen was impossible.
Optoma’s lamp-life table gives up to 4,000 hours in Bright mode, 12,000 in Dynamic, 10,000 in Eco, and 15,000 in Eco+. These are mode-specific manufacturer ratings, not a guaranteed service life. See Optoma’s GT1080HDR specifications.

ViewSonic PX706HD: refurbished listing is not an available deal
ViewSonic’s US refurbished listing gives a price of $436 but marks the product “Out of stock.” The page specifies Full HD 1920×1080, 3,000 ANSI lumens, a 0.69–0.83 throw ratio, a 3.0–7.2 ft throw distance, and a 60–120 inch screen size. It also lists 37 ms input lag; use that figure rather than vague “ultra-low” language. Because the cited refurb listing is out of stock, it is a conditional used/refurbished lead, not a currently purchasable recommendation. ViewSonic’s refurbished PX706HD listing.

Bright projectors that are not short throw
Do not use brightness as a substitute for checking throw ratio. Two bright 1080p alternatives fail the short-throw requirement:

How to choose without being misled by a spec sheet
- Measure the room. Measure from the planned lens position to the screen and decide the image width or diagonal you need. Use the model’s exact throw ratio and manufacturer calculator to check fit before buying.
- Match resolution to your use. The candidates here are listed as 1080p or Full HD. The GT1080HDR’s 4K UHD input compatibility means it can accept that input; it does not change its listed native resolution.
- Compare brightness cautiously. Read the stated lumen unit and do not assume a larger number alone will overcome daylight or poor screen conditions.
- For gaming, compare like with like. The GT1080HDR and GT2000HDR figures are specifically listed at 1080p/120Hz; the cited TH671ST and refurbished PX706HD pages give 16.7 ms and 37 ms, respectively, without that same condition attached.
- Consider the light source and its rating. GT1080HDR lamp-life figures vary by mode, while GT2000HDR is a laser model with a manufacturer rating of up to 30,000 hours. Treat both as rated figures rather than a promise of actual service life.
- Verify the transaction locally. Check current stock, price, warranty, and regional model details with the seller or manufacturer. The only price in these cited pages is the $436 US refurbished PX706HD listing, which is marked out of stock.
Why this is not a verified top-five list
The available evidence supports four candidates with relevant short-throw specifications, but not five currently purchasable budget winners. Current comparable retail pricing is missing for the in-scope models, the GT2000HDR evidence is UK-only, and the PX706HD refurb listing is out of stock. A reader discussion dated 2026-01-24 describes looking for a 1080p projector “under the budget of 60K INR” and asks about filling “80%” of a screen, illustrating why budget and screen-fit questions need a specific market and measured geometry; it does not establish a generally representative budget or a model recommendation.
