The Brydge ProDock Trio is best suited to a compatible MacBook Pro owner who needs several fast connections and external displays, and wants the laptop docked vertically with its lid closed. Its 11-port feature set is substantial, but the advertised display and bandwidth capabilities depend on the Mac’s chip and Thunderbolt support. If your Mac is Thunderbolt 4-only, Brydge says the Trio will not deliver its full capabilities.
What the ProDock Trio offers
Brydge describes the Trio as a vertical docking station for MacBook Pro with 11 ports, up to 140W host charging, three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, USB-A and USB-C, 2.5Gb Ethernet, SD 4.0, audio, and a wireless phone-charging pad. The vertical design keeps the notebook upright on the desk, but using it this way means the MacBook’s own screen is unavailable while docked, according to Macworld’s review.
Brydge advertises support for triple 4K displays at 144Hz or two 8K displays at 60Hz. It also advertises 120/80Gbps performance. These are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results in the available review evidence. Brydge says the bandwidth requires a Thunderbolt 5-compatible MacBook Pro, and full triple-display support requires M5 Pro/Max or better. Check the specifications for your exact Mac and intended monitors before buying: compatibility with a dock does not necessarily mean every advertised display configuration is available.

Brydge identifies 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro/Max and M5 Pro/Max as compatibility targets on its product page, while also describing the dock as designed for Thunderbolt 5 MacBooks. Its FAQ asks, “Does it work with TB4 MacBooks?” and answers that TB4-only machines will not get the Trio’s full capabilities. Brydge points those users to the ProDock Duo instead.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Before deciding, check these points against your own setup:
- Mac model and chip: Confirm your specific MacBook Pro model and whether its chip supports the display configuration you want.
- External display count and mode: Identify the number of displays, their resolution, and refresh rate. Do not assume the Trio’s advertised maximum applies to every Mac.
- Thunderbolt generation: The advertised 120/80Gbps performance is tied by Brydge to a Thunderbolt 5-compatible MacBook Pro.
- Docking style: The vertical arrangement is intended for using the MacBook with its lid closed, so it is a poor fit if you need the built-in screen while docked.
Brydge’s product page is the source for its compatibility and performance claims; verify the exact combination of Mac, chip, and displays rather than relying on the general description of the dock as compatible.

What the independent review says
In a review published August 20, 2026, Macworld’s Simon Jary highlighted the vertical, space-saving design, three Thunderbolt 5 ports, 2.5Gb Ethernet, 140W PD 3.1 charging, and wireless iPhone charging as strengths. The review’s drawbacks were that the MacBook screen cannot be used while docked, wireless iPhone charging is slow, and the Trio is expensive.

That is a dated editorial judgment tied to that price and the reviewer’s priorities—not a guarantee that the Trio is worth the difference for every buyer or at another price. The review supports the practical tradeoffs above; it does not establish independent test results for Brydge’s advertised maximum display modes or bandwidth.

How to decide between the Trio and a simpler dock
Brydge positions its Solo and Duo as lower-capacity options in the ProDock family, while Macworld compares the Trio with the Thunderbolt 4 Duo. The Trio’s premium is most defensible when its additional connections and Thunderbolt 5 capabilities solve actual needs rather than merely adding headroom.
- Choose the Trio if your Mac supports the features you intend to use, you need its three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports or its advertised multi-display capacity, and you value the vertical closed-lid setup.
- Consider a lower-capacity family option if your connection needs are modest or your Mac is Thunderbolt 4-only and you do not need the Trio’s full feature set. Brydge specifically directs TB4-only MacBook users to the Duo.
- Reconsider a vertical dock if you want to use the MacBook’s built-in display while it remains connected to the dock.
The right comparison is not just port count. Factor in your host Mac’s display limits, the monitors’ resolution and refresh rate, your need for 2.5Gb Ethernet and high-wattage charging, and whether the desk-space benefit is worth the price premium.

Price and value
Brydge’s product page displayed the Trio at $399 with a crossed-out $459 reference price when retrieved October 7, 2026. That is a dated listing, not a stable price or a promise of future availability. Macworld also discussed the Trio at a discounted $399 price in its 2026 comparison with the Duo. Check the current product listing and the price of alternatives when you are ready to buy; the value judgment changes if the discount does.

Verdict
The ProDock Trio makes sense for a Thunderbolt 5-capable MacBook Pro setup that can use its extra display and peripheral capacity, especially when a vertical, lid-closed desk arrangement is part of the goal. It is harder to justify if your Mac cannot take advantage of those features, you need the laptop screen open, or a simpler dock already covers your connections. Treat its headline performance as Brydge’s stated capability and confirm your exact Mac-and-monitor combination before paying a premium.
