Where is my extension icon? On a computer, start beside the address bar: Chrome and Edge put extension controls there, while Firefox uses its Extensions button. Safari uses a different setup on Mac and iPhone. If the icon is missing, check whether the extension is installed and enabled before trying to pin it back.
Find the extension control in your browser

These browsers do not all use the same toolbar button or pinning behavior. Use the instructions for the browser and device where you want the extension to work.
Restore an icon in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge

Select the Extensions puzzle-piece control beside the address bar.

Find the extension and select Pin if Chrome offers that option. Its icon should then appear beside the address bar.

If it is not listed, open More > Extensions > Manage extensions. Check whether it is installed and enabled.
Some extensions do not offer a pin option. Chrome can also disable extensions that are no longer supported, and work or school administrators may control which extensions are available. See Google’s instructions for managing extensions in Chrome.
Firefox on a computer

Select the jigsaw-piece Extensions button in the toolbar.

Open the gear or three-dot menu beside the extension and select Pin to Toolbar, if the option is available.

If the extension is not in the panel, check the Add-ons Manager and confirm that it is enabled.
Some add-ons cannot be pinned, including certain search-engine add-ons. Mozilla also notes that pinned and disabled extensions do not appear in the panel. An extension without a browser-action button may not do anything when you click its panel entry. See Mozilla’s guide to the Firefox Extensions button.
Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 or 11

Look for Extensions to the right of the address bar. If the control is absent, open Settings and more > Extensions.

Select Manage extensions and check whether the extension is installed and turned on.

Removing an icon from the toolbar is different from removing or disabling the extension itself. Edge’s support instructions cover Windows 10 and Windows 11; interface details may differ on other platforms. See Microsoft’s instructions for managing Edge extensions.
Find Safari extensions on Mac and iPhone
Safari on Mac
Open Safari > Settings > Extensions. Check that the extension is listed and enabled. Safari extensions may be supplied with apps, and an extension may be able to access webpage content, so review what it does before enabling it. Apple explains the settings and extension controls in its Safari extensions guide.
If an extension’s checkbox cannot be selected, Apple says a macOS security feature may be blocking an app or service from simulating a click. Install the latest Apple software updates. If the checkbox still cannot be selected, Apple’s documented steps are to start the Mac in Safe Mode, enable the extension, and restart. This addresses that specific checkbox problem; it is not a general fix for every missing toolbar icon. See Apple’s troubleshooting steps for Safari extensions.

Safari on iPhone
Safari on iPhone does not use the desktop toolbar workflow. In Safari, tap the Page Menu, then Manage Extensions. To change the global permission, go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions and turn on Allow Extension. If you use Safari profiles, enable the extension in each profile where you need it. See Apple’s instructions for using Safari extensions on iPhone.
Why an extension icon can be missing
A missing icon does not necessarily mean the extension has been removed. Check these possibilities in order:

It is hidden. Open the browser’s Extensions menu or panel. In browsers with pinning, use the pin option when available.

It is disabled. Open the extension manager and check its enabled or on/off state.

It is not installed in this browser or profile. Check the manager in the specific browser profile you are using; an extension available in another browser or profile will not necessarily appear here.

It has no toolbar button, or cannot be pinned. Some extensions are not designed to expose a clickable toolbar control. A panel entry may not open anything if the extension has no browser-action button.

Availability is affected by a setting or policy. Private-browsing settings, profiles, or administrator controls can affect whether an extension is available. Check the relevant browser settings; these are possible causes, not an explanation in every case.
A quick troubleshooting order

Identify the browser and device where you expect to see the icon.

Open that browser’s Extensions control or manager.

Confirm the extension is installed in the current browser and enabled.

If the browser supports pinning, pin the extension from its menu or panel.

If it still does not appear, check whether the extension supports a toolbar button and whether the current profile, private-browsing settings, or a device administrator affects it.

For Safari on Mac, check the Extensions setting and, if its checkbox is blocked, follow Apple’s specific troubleshooting steps. On iPhone, open Manage Extensions from Safari’s Page Menu.
