You can bring several familiar KDE Plasma productivity habits to Windows with four free utilities: PowerToys Command Palette for launching, PowerToys FancyZones for arranging windows, KDE Connect for linking a phone and PC, and Ditto for clipboard history. They cover useful pieces of a KDE-style workflow, not the full desktop or identical behavior.
What the four utilities do
| Utility | Task covered | How it fits a KDE-style workflow | Setup and data considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| PowerToys Command Palette | Launch apps, find files and open windows; access additional actions such as calculations, unit conversions, registry-key changes, and commands. | Provides a keyboard-oriented way to find and launch things. | Part of PowerToys. The source article gives Windows+Alt+Space as its shortcut; confirm the current shortcut and available actions in your installation. |
| PowerToys FancyZones | Define window zones, move windows into them, and save layouts. | Offers configurable window placement, though it should not be assumed to reproduce KWin’s full tiling behavior. | Part of PowerToys. Requires creating and applying a layout that suits your display and work. |
| KDE Connect | Connect a phone and Windows PC for features the article describes as notifications, clipboard sharing, file transfer, messaging, and bidirectional device control. | Brings phone-to-PC integration into a Windows workflow. | Install on both devices and connect them. The article says communication uses the local network; it does not establish a broader security guarantee. |
| Ditto | Keep a searchable clipboard history, including formatted text and images, and pin entries. | Helps retrieve earlier copied links, quotes, code snippets, and commands. | Clipboard history can retain sensitive content such as passwords, so consider the risk on shared machines. |
Command Palette and FancyZones are both included in PowerToys, so the four recommendations amount to three software installations, according to the source account.
Use Command Palette to find and launch items
Command Palette is the launcher in this set. The source article describes using it to open applications, find files and open windows, and reach extra functions such as calculations, unit conversions, registry-key changes, or commands. That makes it useful when the part of KDE you miss is quick keyboard access to tools and tasks.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The article lists Windows+Alt+Space as the shortcut. Because shortcuts and features can change, check Command Palette’s current settings and available actions in your installed version before relying on that key combination.

Arrange windows with FancyZones
FancyZones lets you define areas on a screen and place windows into them. You can save layouts and reuse them—for example, a work arrangement that puts the applications you use together in predictable positions.
This is a configurable window-layout tool, not proof that Windows behaves like KDE Plasma’s KWin. The source article also mentions Komorebi for readers seeking tiling closer to KWin, but it offers no systematic comparison between the options.

If the devices are on the same network but do not discover each other, the article suggests checking Windows Firewall as an initial troubleshooting step. It does not provide enough detail to prescribe specific firewall rules, so avoid disabling the firewall as a blanket fix.

Retrieve earlier copies with Ditto
Ditto adds searchable clipboard history and lets you pin entries. That can save time when you need to recover something copied earlier, including text, formatted text, images, links, code, or commands.
The trade-off is that clipboard history may preserve sensitive material. The article specifically cautions about passwords and shared machines; consider what you copy and whether retaining it is appropriate for your situation.

What this setup does—and does not—recreate
Together, the utilities cover four separate jobs: launching, window arrangement, phone-PC integration, and clipboard recall. They are a practical adaptation for someone who needs Windows but wants selected productivity functions familiar from KDE Plasma.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThis is a personal workflow account, not a measured comparison. It provides no benchmark results or quantified productivity gains, and it does not show that these tools reproduce KDE Plasma as a whole or make Windows and KDE behave identically.
