The Braun TexStyle 9 SI 9684 has a strong advertised feature set, but the public evidence does not establish how well it performs in independent testing. Braun lists high steam output, automatic temperature control and a curved soleplate for the Australian SI9684DB variant. CHOICE lists the model as tested, but its scores and results are member-only. One owner has also reported dripping and awkward controls, though a single account cannot show how common those problems are.
Which TexStyle 9 is this?
Braun Australia’s product page identifies the blue iron as model SI9684DB, while CHOICE uses the model form “SI 9684.” Regional suffixes can matter, so check the label and local specifications before treating these details as universal. The feature and performance claims below are Braun’s published descriptions, not results from hands-on testing.
Braun describes the TexStyle 9 as its most powerful steam iron and says it has 2400 watts and FreeGlide 3D technology. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparison with competing irons.

What does independent testing tell us?
CHOICE has a test listing for the Braun TexStyle 9 SI 9684. Its public specifications include a 2.5 m cord, 1.4 kg weight, anodised soleplate, auto shut-off after 1 minute horizontally and 8 minutes vertically, China as the country of origin, and a 2-year warranty. CHOICE’s rating, performance and ease-of-use scores, reliability and satisfaction information, and test results are available only to members. There is therefore no public basis here to assign the iron a score or summarize its hidden results.

One ProductReview.com.au reviewer reported that the iron dripped despite the steam settings, found a switch awkward to use left-handed, and struggled to remove creases from linen. The reviewer also said Braun responded and they obtained a refund. This is one person’s account; it does not establish the cause, frequency or prevalence of any issue across the model.

Is the SI 9684 worth considering?
On the available evidence, it is a plausible option if the advertised combination of automatic temperature modes, a large steam shot, vertical steaming and a 330 ml tank suits your ironing needs. The case for buying it is less certain if you need independently verified results: CHOICE’s detailed test findings are not public, and the available owner complaint is anecdotal rather than a reliable measure of overall quality.
Before buying, confirm the exact model suffix, local electrical compatibility, applicable regional warranty and current price. Braun’s figures describe the SI9684DB on its Australian page; they should not automatically be applied to every TexStyle 9 sold in other regions.
