Choose the Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) for documented dust and water protection; choose the original Anker SoundCore Mini, model A3101, if you want microSD, AUX, FM radio or a speakerphone microphone. Bose rates its speaker IP67, but it does not float. Anker lists about 15 hours of playback, compared with Bose’s up to 12 hours under specified conditions; those manufacturer figures are not results from a shared test.

This comparison is specifically between the second-generation Bose SoundLink Micro and Anker’s original A3101. SoundCore Mini is also used for later models, including A3107, A3119 and A3127, whose features should not be assumed to apply to the A3101.

At a glance: the main differences

Feature Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) Anker SoundCore Mini A3101
Water and dust protection IP67; Bose says it sinks and does not float. No water-resistance rating is listed for A3101; Soundcore’s model comparison lists no resistance for it.
Playback sources Bluetooth; USB-C is for charging only. Bluetooth, microSD, AUX and FM radio.
Microphone for calls No microphone listed; not for phone calls. Built-in microphone for calls.
Battery claim Up to 12 hours per charge under Bose’s stated test conditions; up to 3 hours at maximum volume. About 15 hours, according to Anker; playback varies with conditions.
Charging connector USB-C Micro USB
Bluetooth and stated range Bluetooth 5.4; up to 30 ft (9 m), per Bose. Bluetooth 4; approximately 20 m, per Anker.
Published size and weight About 4.1 × 4.1 × 1.7 in and 0.725 lb, per Bose. About 67 × 67 × 67 mm and 215 g, per Anker Japan.

The protection, battery and input details come from the Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) product page, its owner’s guide, the Anker Japan A3101 product page and Soundcore’s Mini model comparison. The Bluetooth ranges are manufacturer claims, not directly comparable range tests. Bose rounds its dimensions differently in different parts of its site.

Which is better for water, dust and outdoor use?

The Bose is the better-supported choice for exposure to dust or water: it carries an IP67 rating. That rating does not mean it floats. Bose explicitly says the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) will sink. If flotation matters, neither the Bose’s water-resistance rating nor the information available for the A3101 establishes that it will stay afloat.

Anker’s official A3101 product page does not state a water-resistance rating, and Soundcore’s comparison of Mini generations lists no resistance for the A3101. Do not confuse it with later Mini models or transfer their features to this original version.

Which offers more ways to play music?

SoundCore Mini A3101: playback beyond Bluetooth

The A3101 supports Bluetooth, microSD, AUX and FM radio. Its microSD slot and wired AUX input can be useful when you do not want to rely on a Bluetooth connection. For FM radio, Anker says to connect the micro USB cable, which serves as the antenna; the radio is not a cable-free listening option.

SoundLink Micro: Bluetooth, with USB-C for charging

The Bose plays audio over Bluetooth. Its USB-C port is for charging only, not USB audio playback, so it does not provide a wired USB music source. This gives the Anker more source flexibility, while the Bose keeps its connection options simple.

Can you use either speaker for phone calls?

The original SoundCore Mini A3101 has a built-in microphone for calls. Bose does not list a microphone on the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen), so this generation is not a speakerphone for phone calls. These details are generation-specific; check the exact model number when shopping for a speaker advertised as SoundLink Micro or SoundCore Mini.

How do their battery life and charging compare?

Battery-life claims are not a head-to-head test

Anker says the A3101 plays for about 15 hours and notes that actual playback varies by conditions. Bose says the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) lasts up to 12 hours per charge. Bose’s owner’s guide specifies that its 12-hour figure uses Bluetooth A2DP at 50% volume under stated temperature and content conditions; at maximum volume, Bose says playback is up to 3 hours.

Anker’s nominal claim is longer, but the two figures come from different manufacturers and conditions. They do not establish how long both speakers would last in the same real-world test.

USB-C versus micro USB

The Bose charges over USB-C; Bose’s support specifications and guide give up to four hours to a full charge with a specified power supply. The A3101 charges over micro USB, and its micro USB cable is also needed as the FM antenna. The connector difference may matter if you want to share charging cables with your other devices.

Are they equally portable?

Both are compact speakers, with published dimensions of roughly four inches across for the Bose and 67 mm across for the A3101. Bose lists the SoundLink Micro at about 0.725 lb; Anker lists the A3101 at 215 g. The Bose also has a utility strap as part of its design, giving it a distinct way to attach or carry it. Exact dimensions are manufacturer-listed figures, and Bose’s site rounds its dimensions differently across page sections.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) if documented IP67 dust and water protection and USB-C charging matter most. Remember that it sinks rather than floats.
  • Choose the Anker SoundCore Mini A3101 if you want microSD, AUX or FM playback, or a built-in microphone for calls. Its about-15-hour battery claim is longer on paper, though it is not a directly comparable test against Bose’s figure.
  • Check the exact model number if a listing simply says “SoundCore Mini.” A3107, A3119 and A3127 are later models, not the A3101 covered here.

No independent head-to-head sound test is established by the cited product information, so there is not enough evidence here to declare one the better-sounding speaker. The best fit depends on whether you prioritize protection or extra inputs and calls.
