Bose’s new Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds connect to compatible devices over USB-C, with active noise cancellation but no Bluetooth pairing, companion app, or internal rechargeable battery. Bose announced a U.S. price of $99 and said shipping would start October 15, 2026. The launch story also frames the return of wired earbuds as a response to younger listeners’ interest in simpler products, though the specific daughter anecdote and the quoted wording in the original headline are not independently confirmed by the published launch sources.
What Bose announced
Bose announced its Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds on September 28, 2026. The company’s U.S. announcement set the price at $99 and said shipping would begin October 15, 2026. Those are launch terms; check current listings for live price and availability. Bose’s announcement describes the product as a return to wired listening with noise cancellation.
Raza Haider, president of Bose Premium Consumer Audio, said in the announcement: “Wired earbuds are experiencing a cultural renaissance, and when we decided to bring them back, we knew we had to make them even better than before.” The statement is the company’s framing of the launch, not evidence that all listeners are moving back to wired audio.

The earbuds connect directly to compatible phones, tablets, and computers through USB-C. They are not 3.5 mm earbuds, so the device must support USB-C audio. There is no Bluetooth pairing step, Bose app requirement, or earbud battery to charge: the connected device supplies power. Bose says audio processing uses its SoundDesign digital signal processing and USB Audio Class 2, with playback output fixed at 24-bit/48 kHz.

That setup removes several wireless-earbud chores, but it also makes the cable and connector part of everyday use. A USB-C port occupied by the earbuds cannot simultaneously serve another accessory unless the device supports an appropriate workaround; Bose has not established a universal need for an adapter. Confirm compatibility with the specific device before buying.
Noise cancellation, controls, and included accessories
Bose provides three listening modes. Quiet Mode reduces outside distractions, Aware Mode lets surrounding sound in, and ANC Off Mode allows wired listening without active noise cancellation. The company says four microphones—two in each earbud—support its QuietControl system.

What early coverage says—and what it cannot establish
WIRED reported that these are Bose’s first new wired headphones since 2015 and placed the launch amid renewed interest among younger listeners. It attributed wired-headphone sales increases of 10% in the second half of 2025 and 20% at the start of 2026 to Circana; those figures are reported by WIRED, rather than verified here against Circana’s original publication. WIRED’s launch coverage also says Haider noticed wired earbuds while dropping his teenager off at college.
That account does not independently substantiate the more specific daughter anecdote or the exact “less technologically driven products” wording in the headline framing. WIRED’s hands-on impressions are also preliminary: reviewer Harry Rabinowitz used a late-stage prototype for four days, not a final retail sample over an extended period. He praised sound detail and noise cancellation, but noted added weight and cable tension from the in-line control panel and tangling in the pouch. These are prototype observations, not settled findings about long-term or final-production use.

- TANGLE-FREE CORD W/ MIC: The lightweight 4ft/1.2M flat cable resists tangling so you can toss your earphones in your bag worry-free, while a built-in mic with Clear Call Quality reduces background noise so your voice stays clear during calls.
- COMFORT DESIGN + NOISE CANCELLING: With S, M, and L size ear tips, kids and adults alike can enjoy all-day comfort, as well as noise isolation – letting just the right amount of background noise in so you can focus on the sounds you want to hear.
Who these earbuds may suit
The design is most relevant to someone who wants wired USB-C listening and ANC without maintaining a Bluetooth connection, app, or earbud battery. It is less suitable for someone whose device lacks USB-C audio support, who needs a detachable or shorter cable, or who expects wireless freedom. WIRED names Sennheiser IE 200 and Final E500 as other wired earbuds, but its coverage does not compare them head to head with Bose’s model, so the names alone do not establish a better-value or better-performing alternative.
