The Bosch Series 8 SMS8EDI01A is a 60 cm freestanding dishwasher with 14-place capacity, a third rack and Bosch-listed 42 dB(A) noise. Bosch Australia labels it “Product is no longer available,” so it is best considered a discontinued model: residual stock or second-hand units may still turn up, but current stock and pricing have not been verified. This is a specification-led assessment, not a hands-on test.
What the SMS8EDI01A is
Bosch identifies the SMS8EDI01A as an Australian-market Series 8 freestanding dishwasher in brushed steel anti-fingerprint finish. It has a stainless-steel interior tub and measures 845 mm high × 600 mm wide × 600 mm deep. Bosch lists capacity at 14 place settings. Bosch Australia’s product page currently marks the model no longer available; that does not prove every independent seller has run out of stock.
The full model number, or E-Nr, matters for ownership as well as shopping. Bosch has support pages for different variants, including /10 and /20. Check the complete E-Nr on the appliance rating plate before downloading a manual, arranging service or ordering a part.

These are figures from Bosch’s Australian specification sheet. The sheet does not state a publication year, so the ratings and consumption should be treated as Bosch’s model specifications, not as a current independent test. Compare water and energy values only with equivalent programs and test bases.

Racks and wash options
Bosch lists an Extra Space third rack, a height-adjustable upper basket using Rackmatic, a glass rack, and adjustable or foldable tines. Extra Clean Zone spray nozzles are intended for items in the top basket. These features offer loading flexibility, but how well the layout suits a household depends on the size and shape of its dishes and cookware.
Other listed features include AquaSensor, detergent and rinse-aid sensing, SpeedPerfect, HygienePlus and Machine Care. Bosch also describes AquaStop Plus as lifetime anti-flood protection. These are manufacturer descriptions; the specification sheet does not independently establish real-world cleaning results or reliability.

Drying and connectivity
EfficientDry is Bosch’s automatic door-opening drying feature. Remote Start is listed through Home Connect. Consider whether automatic opening and app-based start or monitoring fit your kitchen and routine; their presence alone does not establish a drying or convenience advantage in every installation.

Bosch specifies 42 dB(A), but no independent measurement or comparative noise test was established for this model. The figure is useful as a manufacturer rating, not a guarantee of how loud the dishwasher will seem in a particular kitchen; room acoustics, installation and nearby living spaces affect perceived noise.

Likewise, the 4-star energy and 5-star WELS ratings, along with the Eco AU consumption figures, give a basis for comparison, not a full cost estimate. Your bill depends on usage, local electricity and water rates, selected programs and household loading. The documented annual energy figure assumes seven Eco AU uses per week; it should not be presented as a forecast for a different usage pattern.

Is it a good fit for your kitchen?
- Capacity and layout: 14 place settings and the extra rack may suit larger loads or households that value flexible cutlery placement. Check whether the rack arrangement accommodates your own plates, pans and tall items.
- Space and installation: Measure the opening and surrounding clearances against the 845 × 600 × 600 mm dimensions. Use the correct model-specific installation instructions rather than relying on dimensions alone.
- Noise: Treat 42 dB(A) as Bosch’s listed figure, and consider where the machine will sit relative to sleeping or living areas.
- Water and energy: Compare the Eco AU figures with alternatives using the same program and equivalent test conditions.
- Drying and controls: Decide whether automatic door opening, a dedicated intensive program and Home Connect Remote Start are useful to you.
- Availability and ownership: Because Bosch marks the model no longer available, confirm seller stock, exact E-Nr, condition, warranty and parts or service access before committing.
Support, manuals and care
Bosch Australia’s SMS8EDI01A support page provides model-related documentation and routes for manuals, installation information, Home Connect, service and spare parts. Confirm that the page and documents match the complete E-Nr on your machine; a related suffix is not necessarily interchangeable.
The Bosch user manual covers routine topics including tub cleaning, Machine Care, filters, spray arms and troubleshooting. It identifies household tableware cleaning as the intended use. Follow the matching manual for maintenance, and use a qualified service provider where repair or installation work calls for one.

Verdict
The SMS8EDI01A’s paper specification is substantial: Bosch lists 14-place capacity, flexible racks, a suite of automatic and specialist programs, EfficientDry and Home Connect features. Its stated size and Eco AU figures make it possible to screen for fit and efficiency. But this is a discontinued model, and the manufacturer figures are not independent performance results. It is most sensible to consider one only after confirming exact variant, condition, current availability, warranty and support options.
